Fleeting beauty
It is not easy to plan trips around Japan in advance during the sakura—admiring season: flowers seem to appear out of nowhere in April - and soon after that they wither. For the Japanese, cherry blossoms have long been a metaphor for the transience of life.
To catch this wonderful phenomenon, many people use the forecast of cherry blossoms. If you are lucky enough to choose the right time, Ogi Park will become a fantastic place for hanami, as the Japanese call the traditional process of admiring sakura.
How to get
The train travels from Saga Station to Ogi Station in just 15 minutes. Following the signs, you will reach the park in 15 minutes. You can also take a taxi.
It is interesting
The Ogi Park was created by Nabeshima Motoshige and Nabeshima Naoyoshi, the first and second daimyo of the Ogi Principality
The city of Ogi is sometimes called "Little Kyoto": its appearance and traditions resemble the ancient Japanese capital
Kakumaki is a famous 340—year-old coniferous tree, the crown of which is formed in the form of square tiers
There is something magical about sakura: its blooming transforms any landscape. For a short time, even the most ordinary Japanese street is filled with life.
Ogi is beautiful all year round, but during the cherry blossom season it changes beyond recognition. At this time, the park is filled with visitors — they take pictures and have picnics under the flowering trees.
Beautiful park with around 3k sakura trees
This is one of the best park in Saga prefecture for sakura viewing as it has over 3000 sakura trees. We were there a bit early for the sakura but could imagine how beautiful it is when all 3000+ trees blooming at their peak! There's a small hill in the park with shrine and statue. There's a free parking opposite the park, and it's also near to the train station with 5 mins walk.
