Croatia is a country located at the intersection of Central Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans. It looks like a crescent moon on the map. Croatia has a long coastline, the longest among the Balkan countries, with beautiful scenery along the way; it has over 1185 islands, earning it the nickname 'Country of a Thousand Islands'. The most famous is Plitvice Lakes, where 16 natural lakes are connected, with a large amount of calcium carbonate limestone deposits in the lakes, presenting green, gray, blue, etc., forming an ultimate natural landscape.
☘️
Speaking of Croatia, one must first mention Dubrovnik, also known as 'King's Landing' in the famous 'Game of Thrones'. Even if you're not a fan of the show, it's more customary to call it King's Landing, as it seems to show the grandeur of this ancient city.

Heaven on earth…Plitvice Lakes National Park
We travelled around the world in 6 weeks and one of our favourite stop is Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia. In 1979 Plitvice Lakes National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, due to its outstanding and picturesque series of tufa lakes, caves, connected by waterfalls. The national park is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Sixteen lakes can be seen from the surface. There are 7 walking trails that are split between the Upper and Lower Lakes of the National Park. We arrived late morning by car from Port of Split as it took 4 hours and were only able to do 2 walking trails. Despite only covering 2 routes, we had spectacular scenery throughout the walk and stopped to take lots of photos. I highly recommend arriving in Zagreb as it only takes an hour from there to Plitvice Lakes by car or bus. You will then have a full day to cover at least 4 walking routes without rushing and everywhere you walk, you would want to take your time to enjoy the picturesque waterfalls and cascading lakes.

Plitvice Lakes National Park
The Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and the largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. The exceptional natural beauty of this area has always attracted nature lovers.
Plitvice Lakes are reachable on a day trip from Zagreb, Zadar and Split. However, we recommend spending at least one night in the area to allow you to experience everything the park has to offer. With this in mind, plan at least 2 days for visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park.
Although visitors aren't allowed to swim in the lakes directly, just few kilometers north of the National Park, swimming is possible!
If possible, spend at least one full day at the lakes to make the most of your day trip to Plitvice. Of course, it's also a good option if you can spend the night over, but visiting Plitvice in one day is doable
The best months to visit Plitvice are June and September.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at least 2 days prior to arrival. You can also buy your entry tickets at the Park, but with the risk that they will not be available because the number of tickets per hour is limited because of possible overcrowding.
Lightweight clothing like T-shirts and shorts are a must as well as hats, sunglasses, and sunblock.
Amazing day!

📍Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia 🇭🇷
The largest and oldest lake in Croatia, a ☀️ country. 16 lakes could be seen within the protected areas.🏝️ They’re divided into upper and lower cluster formed by mountains.🏔️ The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue.
You can spend 1-2 days in this huge national park according to recommended routes and I promise you won’t be bored! 🤩🤩 I was really amazed by the scenario and the water by walking along the paths between lakes. You can clearly see fishes and marine creatures under water as it is clear as glass.🫧🫧

There are three entrances to the Plitvice Lakes National Park (commonly known as the 16th Lake), which is known as the Jiuzhaigou Valley in Europe. However, not every entrance is open all year round. For the sake of insurance, most people get off at the first entrance (that is, the first stop in the scenic spot) and buy tickets into the scenic spot.
From Zagreb, it takes about an hour to get there by car. There are not many people in the area. It is very pleasant. The lake is crystal clear. Many parents take the children to play and take a lot of local photos~
here It is a limestone landform in the upper reaches of the Korana River. After thousands of years of erosion and deposition, many travertine slopes are formed. The development of natural dams has spawned a series of lakes, caves and waterfalls to create a magnificent natural wonder. This wonderful geological process continues to happen today. The forests in the park are home to wild bears, wild wolves and many rare birds.

Plitvice Lakes National Park
Stunning scenery. It's worth the few hours drive from Zagreb. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend a day or two nights to complete a longer hike. The hiking routes are well posted. The park entrance fee is 10 euros per person.
We visited the lakes in September 2023. The ticket was 40 euros per person. Tickets can be purchased online. They send you the ticket by mail, and you show the ticket QR code on your phone. The routes are marked in different colors: green from entrance 1, orange from entrance 2. We chose route H. Start at entrance 2 at 8 AM. With a 6-year-old child, we hiked 11km in 7 hours. We didn't rush. Some of the way we traveled by bus (route 2) and boat. Tickets were checked when boarding the bus and boat. At the end of the route, there was a large flow of people, and many organized groups. The website has an application that you can install on your phone. The application determines your location and shows the next steps of the route. There are many restaurants on site to try, but we ate alone. We paid 10 euros for parking. The lakes are unique and worth the visit.
Highly recommended.

A Winter Wonderland
We travelled to Zagreb with the sole intention of visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park, as we had heard that this place ranks top as one of Croatia’s greatest attractions.
As soon as we entered the park, we were greeted with a beautiful landscape. The park was blanketed by crystal white snow, majestic waterfalls, and dozens of clear, turquoise-green lakes.
We took around 4 to 5 hours to complete hiking trail B (back and forth). It is worthy to note that operating hours are much shorter during Winter and certain parts of the park like the Upper Lakes are closed and hence not accessible. However, just the Lower Lakes itself makes the trip to the park a worthy one as it offers stunning views.
Truly a natural paradise in the heart of Europe.

What to play around Zagreb:
Many peoples impressions of Croatia come from the Junlin City in Quanyou, which is Dubrovnik, but in fact Croatia has a lot of humanities and scenery resources. The perfect combination of the beauty of the Adriatic Sea and the medieval city is the most beautiful country in the Balkans. The capital of this country is Zagreb, and there are many scenic spots within 2-4 hours from Zagreb. The most famous ones are the 16th Lake ~ Plitvice Lakes Group, the European version of Jiuzhaigou. There is also one of the best spots in the world to watch the sunset - the Zadar Sea Organ area.
Transportation: Croatian transportation is mainly by bus, self-driving and steamship. Zagreb can reach the surrounding area by bus. There are many greeting platforms along the road, stop the car and pay on the train. Of course, the best is Tickets are bought at the bus station. The bus station in Zagreb is relatively large. There will be corresponding stations on the ticket. You can find the car according to the platform. The arrival time of the vehicle will not be very early. Generally, it is only 15-20 minutes ahead of time. Sometimes it will be delayed. So please don't worry, some tickets will collect baggage tickets. Some places can't beat uber, you can call a taxi directly.
Recommended destination: Plitvice Lakes - Zadar
16 Lakes: About 160 kilometers from Zagreb, personally not recommended to buy a round-trip bus ticket, go back to the city to beckon, the price is 70 Kuna One-way left and right. The
scenic area is a karst landform. It was founded in 1949 and is the oldest national park in Southeast Europe. It is now the largest national park in Croatia and cannot fly drones.
Attraction has a website, there are also route analysis, tickets have a light season, but it is strongly recommended to go to the peak season.
The scenic sign is very clear, there is a boat, pay attention to the time.
route has ABCEFHK, etc., one-day tour, need to go back and forth on the same day, personal recommendation to take the B line, it takes about 3 hours, you can take a cruise, A line is fast, more than 1 hour, walking, no boat, Time is rich, you can take the C line, you can even spend the night in the local area, there are many hotels nearby.
Return bus on the opposite pavilion under the bridge, you can have a cup of coffee at the door and go.
Zadar: It is a historic city in Croatia, the fifth largest city in Croatia. It takes about 3 hours to get from Zagreb by bus.
Zadar mainly depends on the ancient city-sea organ sunset, and of course you can take a boat trip to the new city, you can even take a boat directly to Split, and open more routes in the peak season. There is a bridge between the ancient city and the new city. There are archaeological museums, marine exhibition halls, medieval churches, monasteries and Roman architectural monuments in the old town. It is worth seeing.
But the most famous is the sunset of the sea organ, the top ten places in the world, romantic and beautiful, waiting for the sunset, listening to the beautiful music of the sea organ, it is really the sound of nature.
As a holiday resort, staying for one night and watching the sunrise is also a good idea. There are many hotels and villas, as well as various yachts and other facilities.

[Traveling around Eastern Europe] 16 lakes
said that the sixteen lakes in Croatia are small Jiuzhaigou, and this changeable color is really dreamy. I guess it is difficult to go to Jiuzhai once in this life, so I am very happy to see the European version.
Waterfall Although the water volume is not very large, the momentum does not lose.
There are free shuttle buses and barges in the park. There are a variety of hiking routes to choose from. It is very user-friendly and suitable for different levels of walking enthusiasts.

Plitvicka Jezera is located in the karst mountains of central Croatia and is the largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, he was selected as a World Natural Heritage.
The park has many natural dams with limestone deposits that form multiple lakes, caves and waterfalls. Since there are mainly 16 lakes, the park is also called the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Whether it is scenery or geological origin, the Plitvice Lakes group is very similar to Jiuzhaigou, so in China, it is often referred to as European Jiuzhaigou.
It is recommended to stay in a park hotel for easy access. The on-site restaurant is attentive and clean, and the price is similar to that of a small hotel. Even in popular scenic spots like the 16th Lake, there is no price confusion in domestic scenic spots. The taste of the Croatians is very close to that of the Chinese. They also love rice. I like all kinds of risotto - seafood, vegetables, mushrooms...

There are many natural dams with limestone deposits in the park. These dams form lakes, caves and waterfalls. The colors of the lake are clear and beautiful. Although the waterfalls of the Plitvice Lakes are not in the forefront of the world in terms of drop and width, the density, beauty and diversity of the waterfalls are amazing. Even some waterfalls are connected by two lakes of different colors. Into the world's natural heritage. The four seasons here have different views: the spring waterfall is full of water, the summer is full of lush green, the autumn maple leaves fall, and the winter is snowy. The lakes in the lakes vary from azure to bright green, from dark blue to light gray, and the color of the lake depends on the depth of the lake, the proportion of minerals and organic matter in the water, and the angle of the sun. The park is divided into the Upper Lake District and the Lower Lake District. It takes at least one day if you want to tour all. If only half a day, it is recommended to visit the classic Lower Lake District.

About transportation: From Zagreb to the south for more than an hour, you can reach the largest national park in Croatia and the oldest in Southeast Europe (founded in 1949, the same age as our great PRC) - Nacionalni park Plitvika jezera.
The road from Zagreb to more than 100 kilometers from the 16th Lake is not difficult to open. The 16th Lake is a very mature tourist area, so the road conditions are quite good.
