"It was a wonderful hike. We hiked in August 2019, and brought sunscreen and plenty of fluids with us. This helped as it did get hot. What we did not prepare for is the tiny bugs (flies I believe), especially at the part when it was shaded. While we got relieved for 0.5 second because it starts to get cooler in the shade, the bugs came right for us. Good thing we brought caps with us and can use the caps to wave the bugs away. If we had bring head net, or some insect repellent, it will be a more enjoyable hike :) Nevertheless the scenery at the very end is worth it. We did not stay too long out at the punchbowl since it was hot. There was a vista right before the gated track to the punchbowl, and that was more shaded (also with no bugs!) :) That may be a place to catch longer rest or get some food :)"

"In May I made the move from Seattle to Los Angeles and it didn’t take long for me to start itching to get outdoors and explore. Unfortunately it took me a couple weeks to settle in and finally make time to get out. I started doing some research on recommended places to camp near LA and Henniger Flats was at the top of almost everyone’s list that I could find online. A short hike, free camping and not far from where I live; sold. Especially for my first camping adventure since making the move to sunny California."

"It's wonderful to know, and truly warms my heart, that these beautiful and majestic cats are being well taken care of. It's unfortunate they cannot be returned to the wild, but nice to see they're comfortable. They have room to walk, stretch, things to jumps and climb on, and play with. Tippi is doing a great job for the benefit of these cats, and I know my donations are being used wisely."

"We came here looking for the freshwater marsh, since the salt marsh is under restoration. Parking on Jefferson required a few u-turns to get to the correct side but is the best place to access the walking path around the wetlands. we had to use the ergo for our infant, since the path isn't paved for our stroller. Saw a large crane, several mallards and other birds in the marsh but several sections were coated with a thick, green layer of duckweed. Next time I'll set up a docent led tour and visit the riparian path, since it seems like there's more to see than we were able to find. Signage on where to park/find the trail could be improved, but overall a great place to walk and learn from the informative placards posted by Friends of the Ballona wetlands."
