The Site of the ancient Yoshino Court (The Southern Court) Palace (14th century)

The area with a Tower (The Myoho-den Pagoda) below the Zao-do Hall of the Kinpusen-ji Temple is said to be where the palace office complex was located in the 14th century when Emperor Godaigo and his ...

The tower over the cherry blossoms becomes a picture.

    Original Text

The southern court Myohoden of the octagonal three-storied pagoda was erected in 1958 at the site of Jitsujoji Temple where Emperor Godaigo's southern court was located. The principal image of Jitsujoji, which was abandoned, is enshrined in the spirit of the emperor and loyal retainers of the Southern Dynasty, and the war dead of the Pacific War. During the cherry blossom season, the Myohoden over the cherry blossoms from the stone steps of Zaodo was very dramatic and impressive, and many people took pictures.

Imperial Palace in the southern court

    Original Text

After the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate, Takauji Ashikaga, who supported Emperor Komyo, opened the Muromachi Shogunate (Northern Dynasty), while Emperor Godaigo fled to Yoshino and confronted (Southern Dynasty). For about 60 years during this period, the emperor existed in the southern and northern courts, but Kinpuzanji Temple was the center of the southern court. The ruins of the Imperial Palace of the Yoshino Imperial Court are located a little west of the precincts of Kinpuzanji Temple. When I came here, the cherry blossom viewing guests were sparse.

A picturesque landscape called "Three-storied Pagoda floating on a cherry blossom in full bloom"

    Original Text

14 A century. Emperor Godaigo lived in a temple called Sanjoji Temple in the west of Zaodo, and later changed its temple name to Kinrinji Temple. The place is Yoshino Asamiya. This temple was abandoned and the building was removed, but in 1958, the Southern Court Myohoden was created as a facility to commemorate the spirits of the four emperors of the Southern Court and the war dead in the previous World War. Looking from the side of Zaodo, I enjoyed the picturesque scenery called "the three-storied pagoda floating on the cherry blossoms in full bloom".

I saw a three-storied pagoda floating up on the cherry blossoms.

    Original Text

On the west side of Zaodo, the main hall of Kinpuzanji Temple, a three-storied pagoda called Nancho Myohoden was built at the end of the stone steps. This three-storied pagoda enshrines the four emperors of the Southern Dynasty and their loyal retainers, and is said to enshrin the spirits of the war dead in World War II, and was erected in 1958. Seen from Zaodo, it looked like a three-storied pagoda was floating on the cherry blossoms, which was wonderful.
