Photos of Blood Compact Monument

The Blood Covenant Monument is an important witness to the history of the Philippines. On February 13, 1565, the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legaspi landed on Bohol Island. In order to show his goodwill, he made a blood alliance with the chief Datu Sikatuna. A friendship treaty was signed, and later generations cast a group of vivid statues to commemorate it. Every July, the SandugoFestival is held here for one month. The festivals include colorful balls, dances, beauty pageants, parades, sports competitions, etc., to commemorate the beginning of friendship and the history of blood alliance between Bohol and Spaniards.
