Dalian Food Guide

The culinary scene in Dalian is dominated by seafood, featuring dishes such as nutrient-rich hairtail fish dumplings, succulent sea urchins, and esteemed abalone, celebrated as the pinnacle of seafood flavors. Another highlight is the "Seafood Family Feast," a vibrant and carefully arranged medley that captures the unique oceanic essence of the Dalian area.

Dalian Transportation

Dalian's transportation infrastructure is well-developed, with its airport and passenger ports being crucial for intercity and international connectivity. Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (IATA: DLC, ICAO: ZYTL) is the primary airport serving Dalian, located approximately 3.7 km northwest of the city center in Ganjingzi District. It is a hub for Dalian Airlines and a focus city for China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines. The Port of Dalian is the largest passenger port in China, handling over 5 million passengers annually. It offers domestic services to cities like Shanghai, Weihai, and Tianjin, as well as international services to Incheon, South Korea. The port is a significant distance from the city center, but taxis are available, and a free shuttle service is provided to Zhongshan Square. Additionally, Metro Line 2 has a stop near the cruise ship pier, offering a connection to the city.

A friend brought me here; it's a super famous local spot in Dalian.
This sea urchin rice... it's seriously so good I could cry 😭
Topped with golden sea urchin + popping fish roe, with a pasteurized egg in the middle to mix in. No fishy taste at all!
Creamy and smooth, it's like eating ice cream~
The pressure-cooked oysters are so plump, and the sea snails are crunchy and bouncy too.
Eating them plain, you get the original fresh sweetness, and dipping them in their special sauce is also incredibly delicious!!
I also really liked the raw marinated sweet shrimp.
Soaked in a lime-based sweet and spicy sauce, the shrimp meat is soft and tender with no fishy taste.
The sea hare potstickers have a golden, crispy crust, and the filling has a whole sea hare inside, plus it's full of roe, haha.

I’ve been eating at this place forever—the original location is right near our university (Dongcai), and I’ve always loved it lol.
I heard this new location is also good, so I dragged a friend here to try it out~
⭐️ Master's sea urchin rice (large)
They really earned their reputation for sea urchin—this is just too good!!
A thick layer of golden sea urchin covers the rice; you can see how generous the portion is.
The sea urchin is so fresh it tastes sweet, with absolutely no fishy smell.
Mix it all up so every grain of rice is coated in the sea urchin paste—it’s creamy, just like seafood ice cream.
⭐️ Xing'anling hazel mushroom rice bowl
This was a surprisingly standout dish!!!
The amount of meat and hazel mushrooms is super generous~
The wild hazel mushrooms soaked up all the meat juices, making them rich, fragrant, and tender.
The sauce is thick and coats the rice perfectly—savory and not cloying at all!
⭐️ Dalian three-delicacy menzi
This is a total upgrade on the local classic!
The outside of the menzi is pan-fried until crispy, while the inside is chewy and soft. Plus, they added plenty of seafood~
Coated in fresh sauce and sesame paste, with a savory garlic flavor—it’s an authentic taste of old Dalian. It’s a must-order for every table, for sure~
⭐️ Passion fruit and cuttlefish egg soup
It’s really made with fresh passion fruit. We saw the chef scooping out passion fruit when we walked in—there were so many peels piled up lol.
The sweet and tangy fruit aroma balances the richness of the seafood, and the cuttlefish eggs are tender and smooth.
The broth is refreshing but flavorful. Having a bowl after the meal warms the stomach and cuts through the richness—it’s the perfect pairing for the rice bowls!!
✅ Also, I highly recommend their various juices!! They are all freshly squeezed from real fruit, with not a single drop of water added. They are incredibly rich and delicious~
It’s right at Minzhu Square, perfect for a meal after shopping. Both tourists and locals should come and try it!

Citywalked all the way from Fujiazhuang 🔜 Yinshatan 🔜 the best viewing point of the Cross-sea Bridge to the Castle Hotel. I came specifically to Yingmu Qianhe for this bowl of sea urchin rice.
The sea urchins are freshly opened. They look plump, and a full bowl is truly satisfying. It tastes sweet.
Plus, the texture and flavor of the rice are also very special. It is definitely worth a trip to Dalian just for a bowl of sea urchin rice‼️
It is a 7-story Japanese restaurant. If the weather is good, you can see the sunset from the 7th-floor terrace in the evening, and you can also see the full view of the Castle Hotel.
After eating, you can continue strolling towards Xinghai Square. Walk in front of Mr. Sa'er's drink shop to take a picture of the Cross-sea Bridge during the blue hour, then continue strolling to Heishijiao Park, where you can see the fluorescent sea at night.
This whole route—looking at the sea, walking, drinking coffee, taking photos, and eating Japanese food—is very chill. Dalian will never lose its charm‼️
