Located in southeast Guangdong Province, Haifeng County is one of Guangdong’s famous historical and cultural cities and was also a base of operations during the Revolution. Fangfan Pavilion, on Wupo Ridge to the north of urban Haifeng, was built to memorialize the unfortunate capture of the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279) folk hero Wen Tianxiang. Other natural and cultural attractions include Lianhuashan (“Lotus Flower Mountain”) Forest Park, the historic Red Square, and the former residence of agrarian revolutionary Peng Pai (1896-1929).
