Grasse, the city of perfume, is a small mountain town in the northwest of Nice. It is named after the perfume manufacturing industry and has the title of "City of Art and History". There are no less than 30 perfume factories in the small town, surrounded by flower fields of lavender, jasmine, rose, orange blossom and violet, which are used as raw materials for perfume making. Jasmine, a key ingredient in many perfumes, was brought to southern France by the Moors in the 16th century. Grasse hosts the "Jasmine Festival" (Fêted du Jasmin or La Jasminade) every year in early August. International Perfume Museum The Perfume Museum is a 14th-century castle that preserves exquisite perfume bottles and perfume-making machines from various periods. The Museum of Art and History of Provence exhibits many antique furniture, traditional costumes, archaeological remains and many precious perfume bottles donated by the locals of Grasse.
