Photos of Zhenbao Island

Zhenbao Island is located on the Ussuri River and is about 2 kilometers long. It is called Zhenbao Island because of its shape like ingots. Zhenbao Island was originally a peninsula that stretched into the Ussuri River from the Chinese side. Later, it became a small island after a long-term impact of currents. During the dry season in summer, Zhenbao Island will be connected with the Chinese land in the Ussuri River to restore the original appearance of the peninsula. The older generation of Chinese fishermen on the Ussuri River also called Zhenbao Island "Wengdao". Zhenbao Island is a small island with an area of only 0.74 square kilometers, but it attracted worldwide attention due to the Zhenbao Island incident in the late 1960s. Standing on the stone monument on the riverside, "the first victory on one island in a century" reminds people of the Sino-Soviet battle more than 30 years ago - Zhenbao Island's self-defense counterattack, which ended with our victory. Since Zhenbao Island's self-defense counterattack, Zhenbao Island has been a military restricted area, and local residents and tourists have been prohibited from landing on the island. It was not until the disintegration of the Soviet Union that some tourists were allowed to visit the island with the consent of the military. On the island, the first thing you see is the solemn gate of the camp with "Chinese Treasure Island" written on it. On the higher plots of the island, the soldiers who guarded the island from generation to generation overcame many difficulties and built "Beijing Road", "Jinshui Bridge", "Nanjing Road" and "Shanghai Road" to express their determination to defend the treasured island to the death. The smoke of gunpowder dissipated, and the heroes passed away. Today, Zhenbao Island has become a famous red tourist destination for patriotism.
