A nice little hotel run by a sweet old couple. The hotel offers a free private onsen which is located outside in a beautiful setting which you can book for 40min. The hotel also has a public onsen inside which is gender separated and where you can take a shower. The room is traditionally japanese style with a tatami mat, futon and low table. It was warm and cozy and there was plenty of space. A teapot was provided and you could make your own tea. You get slippers, a yukata per person and traditional japanese wooden shoes for outside. If you stay here you have the option of using the 9 public onsen. However, these are a short distance from the hotel away. The couple can't speak English but with a translator we were able to communicate. It was difficult to find an open restaurant in the village after 18:00. It is no problem to store your luggage in the hotel after check-out. The Snow Monkey Park was easy to reach on foot, even if it was more than 3km. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Unexpected Treasure Family Hotel . Because I arrived at the hotel early, there was no one at the front desk, and there was an old grandfather who came out to receive the bell at the front desk. Because the time was early and I couldn't check in, I stored my luggage. The owner's grandmother drove me to the Snow Monkey Park. It's not very far from the snow monkey to the store on the return trip. If you don't want to go, you can take the bus down the mountain. The day of check-in was New Year's Eve, and the stores in the hot spring town were almost resting. There are two supermarkets that bought fruit and beer to prepare to nest in the hotel. When you arrive at the hotel, you need to carry your luggage into the room. Because the elderly's legs and feet are not very convenient. The Japanese dinner of the day was very rich. Too much to eat. I ordered two bottles of wine for more than 100 yuan. Tangtianzhong is very cost-effective. Have the opportunity to come again.

⭐Geographical location: Yudanaka Hot Spring is relatively close to Jigokudani Monuen, a 20-minute walk from the station. It should be noted that you can pick up the station before 5 pm. We arrived at 5:30, but the boss said we could not pick up. Although the distance is not long, it still takes a while to walk on the mountain road. You can also take a bus, which runs every half an hour. ⭐Service: There are two shopkeepers serving you, and their attitude is very good. They will help you deliver your luggage to the coffee shop next to the station when you travel the next day. It should be noted that if you check in after 3 pm, you will not be able to make calls in the morning. I left something in the room. No one answered the phone after three calls. In the end, I had to go to the store to get it again. ⭐Facilities: The room layout is relatively simple and the facilities are relatively simple. To be honest, the heating is relatively small and it is a bit cold at night. There is no shower room and toilet, and the sink only has cold water. Shower rooms and hot springs need to be charged separately, 500 yen. Public toilets (all small Japanese-style hotels are like this) are very clean, because there are few rooms and few guests, and you have never touched anyone else in the toilet. Anyway, the price/performance ratio is pretty good. ⭐Meals: Our order included dinner and breakfast, but the portions were small and not enough to fill us up. When we got out of the station, we had to remember to buy some food from Lawson. There are no convenience stores in the hot spring street! Mineral water is not provided, and there is an additional charge of +100yen. ⭐Hot spring: You can soak in 9 soups on the street, but there is only one key, so you have to go there separately. The private soup shop in the store is in B1. It is relatively simple, has a lot of moisture, and is not very clean. It is recommended to go to the public soup house. Although the boss said that there is no place to take a bath in the public bath, so you can only buy a private bath + shower, which is a bit embarrassing.

There was a ski school here 37-38 years ago, and the reception is now in the same place, which brings back memories, and I was happy to see that the building is so clean. However, the smoking area is, by any stretch of the imagination, clean. I would also like to stop by again to cool off during the hot summer.

Everything was ok, quite standard. It was clean and really, no problems. I only have a slight issue with the toilet: The shared toilet is shockingly small, and for the female one, it says that 2 can fit in there. Thankfully I was alone for my showers if not it would be really awkward. I also found it weird how if the main toilet door opens, the person changing can be seen by anyone outside. :( Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay and a good rest point for those going on the kurobe alpine route trail.

We came to Shiga Plateau for skiing, we have been to Yudanaka four times, and we have lived in 8 different homestays. Daimaru House is the best one: A The boss's English is good, there is no problem with communication (the boss is not good); B There is a bathroom in the room, which is very convenient (most of the bathrooms in the homestay are shared and inconvenient) C In the hot spring town, eating is very convenient; D Going out is the station, it is convenient to go skiing on the mountain; E Indoor and outdoor hot springs are large and powerful; F The boss is very nice and provides pick-up/send-off/go to snow monkey park service (this is very important in Tangtianzhong, some homestays do not provide it) In a word, come to Shiga Plateau skiing, choose Daimaru House is right!

Wonderful Stay at Garden Pension Obogurgl We had an excellent experience at Garden Pension Obogurgl. The location is perfect—just a short walk to the Hakuba Goryu lifts, which made getting on the mountain super easy every day. The pension itself is cozy, clean, and peaceful, with a lovely garden that adds to the charm. Our room was warm and comfortable, with plenty of space for ski gear, and the communal areas had a relaxed, homely vibe. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, always happy to help with local tips and transport advice. We especially enjoyed being able to walk everywhere—whether it was to the nearby convenience stores, local restaurants, or just strolling among the beautiful pine trees. The large cherry blossom tree out the front added a special touch to the peaceful surroundings. If you're after a quiet, scenic, and welcoming place to stay in Hakuba Goryu, Garden Pension Obogurgl is a fantastic choice.

It was raining on the day we arrived, but it wasn't cold and we were able to sleep peacefully in our private room. It would be nice if the shower had a little more hot water, but it was okay. I think it's a good place to stay before climbing a mountain. The staff were kind and explained things to us carefully, which made me feel at ease. Shinano Omachi was a town I had been following on Instagram and wanted to visit.

AAnonymous UserThe croissant is a bit oily, so you need to bake it thoroughly until it is slightly burnt. It is more than 900 meters away from the bus station, which is a bit far. If the price is cheap, it is worth staying again. There are many messy people, with yellow, black and white skins. The perfume smells bad. Koreans or Hong Kong people are very hot, and they look very *. I realized that I am only suitable to travel to places with many Japanese people.

GGuest UserThe staff really went above and beyond to make two ignorant Canadian tourists feel extremely welcome at a traditional Japanese Ryuken. Though there was a small language barrier, we never felt that we could not communicate our needs. The hot and cold onsen was very refreshing after walking post towns along the Nakasendo Way. The river next to the hotel made for a relaxing experience and deep sleep. Somehow, I missed the option when booking to select the dinner option, there is really no other food options in the area, and the clerk (owner) said he would put a 'simple meal' together for us for a small charge which we found acceptable. The kaiseki that followed was some of the best and most authentic Japanese food we experienced in our two weeks in Japan. The woman serving us was an absolute gem and the cat that ran the establishment was adorable. Our room was very comfortable and had a nice sitting area with a view of the river. Only points of contention would be that that it's a little out of the way if you don't have a car, but is conveniently accessable by bus with ~10 minute walk. The facilities are a little dated, the onsen is discoloured, but I assume that is from the natural minerals. There was a stale smell (smoke) in the rooms which is a bit off-putting to non-smokers. It would appear smoking is allowed in the facility which might be a plus to some.

IInqubeMy GF's review: My stay in Meiji Onsen Ryokan was my first stay at a ryokan, and I’ve never felt more welcome at any other hospitality place I’ve been to before, of which there are many. And even after the first day, I am pretty sure it will probably stay this way forever. I am very grateful for your kind welcome and I am amazed at the work that the team of your hotel does at this place. Everything feels natural and beautiful, and the atmosphere is so peaceful and special. People who work here are passionate about their job, and as a passionate person myself I feel energized and happy to see others be so amused about what they do. I will always remember my first stay here and I will compare other ryokans I go to with Meiji Onsen Ryokan, because I feel that it’s the best ryokan in Japan. Thank you so much for this amazing experience. And Okami-chan is the best girl in all of Nagano! When I come back home, I will tell everyone who she is and where she is from - Meiji Onsen Ryokan, Chino, Nagano, Japan! 🇯🇵 (As a fantastic bonus, it’s even allowed to go in with uncovered tattoos! Not every ryokan can match up to that!)

AAnonymous UserI had the amazing opportunity to stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warm hospitality that made me feel right at home. The ryokan was beautifully designed with classic Japanese architecture, tatami mat flooring. My room was serene and minimalistic, featuring a comfortable futon laid out on the tatami mats in the evening. I especially enjoyed wearing the yukata provided and walking around the ryokan feeling completely immersed in Japanese culture. One of the highlights of my stay was the onsen (hot spring bath). Soaking in the warm water was incredibly relaxing and refreshing. Staying at a ryokan allowed me to experience the calm, simplicity, and beauty of traditional Japanese living. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and peaceful retreat in Japan.

KKs TamThe location is great and it is well maintained. I stayed in the 4 beds female dorm, it was spacious. The bed was big with a little desk at one side of the bed for organising personal items. Each bed has their own charging pod. There are some limitations though: the lift can't be used so suitcases are moved up via staircase. I have to go down to the 2nd floor for the bathroom and toilet. I am not sure how many people are sharing them but I never need to wait an they are clean.

GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!

GGuest UserThis price, this dining experience, this scenery can be said to be cost-effective, the most convenient from Nagoya, Osaka is the farthest. Unfortunately, the only drawback is that the room is not hygienic, and the tatami is stained and there is no foot. When I checked out the next day, a lot of climbers came to climb the mountain, and the atmosphere was really good!
