Enjoy Awaji Island and its many charms from a central base at Fairfield by Marriott Hyogo Awaji Higashiura, where more than warm hospitality awaits. Our hotel in Awaji is perfectly situated for enjoying the summer sun and surf, as we’re near Ura Seaside Park and its Ura Kenmin Sun Beach, which is among Japan’s 88 Best Beaches and offers an expansive view of Osaka Bay. The nearby Michi-no-Eki Higashiura Terminal Park offers immersion into the arts, featuring a pottery studio where you can try your hand at pottery and a museum solely devoted to sumi-e (ink wash paintings) of cats. Awaji Hanasajiki Park’s sweeping fields of flowers and the breathtaking panoramic view of flowers in bloom throughout the season against the backdrop of Osaka Bay and Akashi Strait are a short distance from our Awaji Island hotel.
"This is a beachfront budget hotel. While the hotel doesn't offer dining services, there are plenty of great food options nearby. I highly recommend Tsurumaru Udon; it's run by an older gentleman and a young person, and we ended up eating there twice during our stay in Awaji.
The beach is a public bathing area and gets quite busy with local Japanese tourists during the summer. It's quite natural and largely unmaintained, giving it a rustic charm.
We traveled to Awaji by bus from Kobe Sannomiya, and the hotel is conveniently just a 5-minute walk from the bus stop. At the same bus stop, you can purchase a 1000 JPY day pass for various attractions, but be aware that bus services are infrequent. It's advisable to check the timetable at the station beforehand.
Besides the udon place, we also tried Ura Shokudo and Kintaro Sushi. Ura Shokudo is a local cafeteria-style restaurant where you pick your dishes and pay at the counter. Their tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) and noodles are made fresh to order. Kintaro Conveyor Belt Sushi is very popular; we had to queue both times we visited, so I'd suggest going during off-peak hours."
