Orange Hotel (Beijing Tiantan North Gate) Reviews

The hotel is fine. I think that, considering other hotels we've stayed at in China this month, it might be the most expensive in terms of value for money, but it's well located, especially near the subway. The room is spacious and has a separate shower. The free washer-dryer works well. The breakfast is Asian but with Western options and is very plentiful. But the staff—and I want to be quite clear here—except for the two waitresses in the kitchen who served breakfast, who were among the kindest, most polite, friendly, and helpful people we've ever met, and the chambermaid who cleaned our room, who always greeted us with a smile and was very attentive... I don't know if the reception staff all had personal problems or if they were genuinely that unpleasant. I understand that the language barrier is a handicap, but it's something we all accept, and with translators and a little effort from everyone, it can be resolved. There were only long faces, and except for the first day when we needed help getting to Tiananmen Square because WeChat wasn't working properly, I don't think we were any more of a nuisance. Greetings were difficult, saying goodbye was difficult, and if you spoke to them, their demeanor was very unfriendly. I'm very sorry if we offended them at any point, which might explain their behavior, but it wasn't our intention, and we certainly don't know the reason for the incident. A special mention goes to a young man who greeted us when we arrived at night. It was raining and dark because our flight was late. I think he said two words to us: "nihao" and "passport"... and that was it. He showed us the elevator and the floor, but offered no further information about breakfast times, useful phone numbers, or any extra services. Even a simple "good night" in their language would have been appreciated. Thankfully, this only happened at this hotel, because throughout the rest of China we've been traveling through this month, the treatment we've received from everyone we've encountered in hotels, public services, restaurants, shops, attractions, and even from ordinary people on the street has been impeccable.
