📍 Gora 1300-34, Hakone
★★★★ 9.0 (1,114 reviews)

"Fantastic location next to Gora Station with easy access to Gotemba premium outlets via bus& Cablecar to Lake Ashi. Kaiseki breakfast and dinners were thoughtfully planned and different each meal. So many free snacks and food at different timings. Private outdoor onsen was wonderful as well. Note: you have to queue for any of the 3 huts. Only thing we didn’t like was having to shower outdoors and the dated toto bidet. Other than that, perfect 2 night stay at Hakone."

"We had a great time at this family friendly property, it took some time to get there but worth the trip!  Staff were nice!  We went for the Hakone shrine and the beautiful Torii gate.  Did not disappoint.  The town of gora is very small, not much to do.  We stayed one night - it was perfect !"

"Except for the slight inconvenience of being a bit of a walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, the hotel facilities, service, and hot springs were all excellent. The room was very comfortable, there were free popsicles, and breakfast was decent."

Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu

📍 1297 Ninotaira, Hakone
★★★★★ 9.3 (827 reviews)

"Beautiful resort in the mountains, surrounded by greenery. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus from Gora Station. Staff are friendly, helpful and speak English. Buffet dinner and breakfast had a large variety of choice. There is also unlimited drinks and ice-cream in the lobby. The rooms are clean and spacious, but the best part is the open-air bath on the balcony that you fill with natural hot spring water at the push of a button."

"Facilities: Excellent Cleanliness: Good Ambiance: Comfortable Service: Good Located on Gora mountain, there isn't much to explore nearby, but you can take a pleasant walk along the road with fresh air. The hotel facilities are excellent, and the half-board (two meals and one stay) is fantastic; both breakfast and dinner were delicious! After a satisfying meal, we enjoyed a very relaxing dip in the hot springs. The lobby offers tea and coffee, and in the evening, there are various snacks, alcoholic drinks, and other beverages available. The staff are very friendly. Overall, we are extremely satisfied."

"The hotel was conveniently located within 3mins walking distance to Moto hakone bus stop. It is easy getting around via the bus but be sure to take note of the bus timing. It is also walking distance to the Tori Gate and Hakone Shrine. From our hotel room, we were happy to be able to see Mouth Fuji throughout our stay there."

"This hotel has some unique highlights worth mentioning. At the top level, guests can enjoy a free Fuji sky view, which is a wonderful experience. There is also a public bathroom available, though it’s located in a different building. Complimentary parking is provided in the basement, which is very convenient. The facilities are decent overall, and one charming feature is the koi pond, where guests are even allowed to feed the koi. These thoughtful touches make the stay enjoyable and memorable."

"This was my third experience. I didn't book breakfast or dinner this time because of differing personal tastes. The front desk staff were very polite, and the quality remained consistent, but it would be better if they offered a different breakfast and dinner menu so other guests could have more options."

Hakone Kowakien Hotel Hotels in Hakone

Hakone Kowakien Hotel

"This was the first hotel we booked for our trip, and it didn't disappoint. The service was warm and attentive, the room was spacious, and the breakfast and dinner buffets were plentiful. The natural environment around the hotel is truly beautiful. When in Hakone, hot springs are a must, and across the road, the Kowakien Yunessun spa resort has two areas that hotel guests can access for free and unlimited times. The only downside is that transportation isn't the most convenient; we took a bus from Odawara Station. It would be easier if you were driving or renting a car. However, this is truly a hotel with excellent value for money."

Hakone Ashinoko Hanaori Hotels in Hakone

"Really liked this hotel. The location is excellent, right by the Taosendai Ropeway station. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet-style. Dinner lasts an hour and a half, and drinks are all complimentary. The onsen (hot spring bath) was also great; I really enjoyed my time here. It's very quiet at night, though it is quite far from the bustling areas and requires taking a bus. There are also no convenience stores nearby."

"The location is really bad....really.....don't even think about walking there. It's really uncomfortable..your knees will be ruined. The hot springs aren't that great either...."

"The room was spacious and featured a Japanese-style tatami area, but with a Western mattress for extra comfort during sleep. My favorite part was the hotel's private onsen – perfect for introverts like me who prefer to avoid public baths, and it felt like a delightful surprise every time. The hotel's location is excellent, right at the Gora station exit, saving you the hassle of multiple transfers. If you check out before 9:15 AM, you can pay for the hotel to transport your luggage to Hakone-Yumoto station, allowing you to explore unencumbered and pick up your bags directly from Hakone-Yumoto on your way back to Tokyo. The thoughtful service was fantastic. As for the hotel food, it's a matter of personal preference; many people aren't keen on the dipping sauces for the Japanese hotpot, so consider your dinner options carefully."

"One of the best hot spring hotels even experienced in Japan! New, clean and comfy environment, the buffet dinner and breakfast provided wide variety of food. Additional drink and snack served in the common areas even not paid for the meal options. The staff are friendly as usual in Japan. Also the private onsen available without extra cost. Highly recommended!"

"Stunning Historical Garden: The absolute highlight is their massive traditional Japanese garden. It feels like walking through a living postcard, with beautiful ponds, lush trees, and streaming water. To our surprise, we were greeted by fireflies at night while strolling after dinner. The natural hot spring water here is top-tier. We get almost 24-hour access to the relaxing indoor and outdoor baths (rotenburo). Soaking under the stars after a long day of exploring was pure bliss. Prime Location: It is incredibly convenient—just a flat, easy 7-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. No need to haul heavy bags up steep hills. The service is warm, welcoming, and attentive. The rooms are beautifully kept, offering that authentic, peaceful ryokan vibe. Traditional Japanese Breakfast. Dinner is a multi-course, traditional Kaiseki feast served right in the restaurant, which beautifully overlooks the illuminated evening garden."

"Check in took quite some time as there were many guests checking in at 3pm. The hotel has a western ryokan feel. It has 2 onsens which they alternate between men and women and I suggest going to both. The one on level 5 has a waterfall view. Dinner was buffet style and the variety was great. I super love the fresh Sashimi, the miso soup, the tempura and sushi, snow crab etc. Room was clean and spacious with our own outdoor Onsen bath. Would love to come back."
