"Hope this review helps fellow travelers: The hotel is conveniently located close to both Tobu Nikko Station and JR Nikko Station (the two stations are separate but only about 100 meters apart). From the bus stop in the small square just outside Tobu Nikko Station, you can catch buses to all major attractions, allowing you to choose your route based on your needs and desired destinations. Shinkyo Bridge is within easy walking distance from the station. In front of JR Nikko Station, there's a designated stop for a free shuttle bus to Edo Wonderland, which takes approximately 30 minutes to reach. However, departures are not very frequent. Edo Wonderland is a theme park with an adult ticket price of 5,800 JPY. We noticed it was primarily frequented by tour groups, so I personally wouldn't highly recommend it for individual travelers. The hotel's photos and videos accurately reflect the actual property. Although our Ctrip booking indicated no breakfast was included, the hotel provided a complimentary set breakfast for each guest. Both the interior and exterior environments are very quiet and peaceful. Overall, this is an excellent choice!"

"The environment is elegant, and I really liked the Western and Japanese style rooms. The spa was also very comfortable 😌... Breakfast is too early, 7:30 and 8:00 – I'm still half asleep! This is a vacation, not going to work. Can't the time be pushed back a bit? We booked dinner, but we arrived late at 7:50 PM, and dinner was gone. We had called them at 7:10 PM to let them know we were stuck in traffic, but the hotel said dinner was gone and wouldn't refund us 😏."

"I would really like to give this place a full five star because of the spacious room and good service but the location was quite far from the main station and shuttle buses were limited (only 3x per day to the station and back). Taxis from the station to the hotel costs around 900 yen (additional booking fees would be incurred if the hotel books for you as opposed to hailing one along the streets) which is ok but when you need it too often (because it can get really dark at night on the route without street lights), it’s additional costs to factor in. Having said that, it is a peaceful place to be with the mountain view at the back of the hotel. Free drinks were provided and I like the spacious dining / living area which is really good for groups to have debrief. Hotel staff were also really helpful in giving recommendations for food as restaurants tend to close quite early and they also helped me to call a cab on my last day."

The Nikko Senhime Monogatari provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. The Nikko Senhime Monogatari is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Nikko. The hotel is just 2km away from Tōbu-nikkō Station. With Rin’nōji Taiyū-in (Mausoleum of Iemitsu), Shinkyuusha (Sanzaru, three monkeys) and Nikko Futarasan jinja Haiden all within a short distance, there is no shortage of things to do in the area. At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city. This Nikko hotel features parking on site. If cleanliness is important to you, this hotel makes an excellent choice, as our guests consider this to be one of the cleanest hotels in the city.

"4.5 stars!  Property is older but extremely well maintained.  The corner western/Japanese rooms are spacious with two western beds and tatami area, single japanese bath and shower area and separate toilet area, mini fridge, tv, sitting area overlooking the river and table with four chairs as well as a massage chair!  Onsen area has both indoor and outdoor areas separate for men and women and a cold plunge as well as multiple hot baths.  Minus half a star for low staffing in the store/cafe areas (often no staff member to be found when kakigori desired), no in house lunch option and overly fatty meat on the 3rd night dinner (breakfast and dinner were LARGE and BEAUTIFUL but perhaps heavy on the yuba.  Also, shuttle to the train station is only at 10 and 11am and getting cabs is difficult.  However, would overwhelmingly recommend Nikko Senhime Monogatari!"

"The service was impeccable, with the young waiters always smiling. During my seven-day trip to Japan, this was the only place where I experienced the kind of Japanese service I've been seeing online. The room was spacious, and the food and hot springs were excellent. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a hot spring inn in a secluded area like Kawaji Yumoto. The only downside was that the furniture was a bit dated. The filter on the kettle's outlet was rusty and yellowed. I hope it's replaced soon, as it's not a very expensive item."

"The hotel's service was decent, though the facilities felt a bit dated. This is perhaps understandable, as the entire area isn't as bustling as it once was, and even the on-site restaurants were all closed. However, the price was still quite reasonable, and there are hot springs available for guests. The only minor inconvenience is having to walk out to the backyard in slippers to reach them."

"A special person checked in. From the moment he parked at the hotel entrance, some waiters helped him to get to the room. Upon entering the hotel, guests will be invited to sit in the side hall and bring hot tea and cookies, very considerate. Japanese hotels do n’t have to worry about hygiene, they wo n’t disappoint guests. The best thing about the hotel is dining, whether it is breakfast or dinner, it is very rich. Breakfast is available in Japanese and Western style. Dinner is a fixed menu. There are about ten degrees. The dishes for two nights will not be the same. The recommended order includes dinner, especially for friends who have fun around. When we went, it was about 6 o'clock in the evening, and the shops and restaurants were closed, leaving only a small supermarket. There is no 24-hour convenience store near the hotel, so be careful."

GGuest UserThe room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service. Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels. The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.

AavlatkaIt is far from Tobu Niko station and relatively close to the main attractions. Of the pluses, two private onsens can be accommodated in two or three. One is laid out with a tile, the other is stone (used by a great demand, understandable case). If you take the onsen, no one will enter it anymore. To let the guests know whether the onsen is free and which special signal lamps are made, it is convenient. The Onsens work from 16 to 23 hours, so it is impossible to get down in the morning. Like I think, the water is cold and the rooms are closed - I love outdoors. The breakfast was unexpected, but they are fed exclusively with different baking (for a long time, so many tests have not eaten). It is also possible to buy frozen dishes for cheap and immediately distribute them in a microwave. In the bathroom and toilet room, the yucata is issued on demand. A beautiful living room where you can sit in the evening (if not too many guests). Here, where to sit in the street evening, it is not very clear, because near the Onsens there is a smoke zone with shops, but there is not a very nice smell.

RRosie33The bunk bed was so large compare to average bed size with comfy and clean blanket and sheet. There is personal locker with key, lamp, charge station, body and face towel, slipper, and free flow kimono and amenities. The soap, shampoo, body lotion, and face wash are provided. I think it is super fantastic compared to the cheap price. We can use public onsen (male and females are in different rooms so it is so convenient). From 15.00-22.00, in the Lake-View Lounge, we can drink and eat snacks for free: all kinds of alcohol, various soft drinks machines, coffee machines, beer, ice, tea, etc. So fantastic!!!!! There are library and game corners as well. This hotel is just across the Chuzenji Lake, 900m from Kegon lake. There is one and only convenient store (10mins by walk from hotel) which is open 08.00-20.00. Even though there are view restaurants nearby, however, you must be aware that food here is quite difficult to access. Restaurants mostly close as early as 3 or 4 pm. I will definitely come here again.

AAnonymous UserThis was my first time staying at a Hoshino Hotel in the Kai series, and I was very satisfied. The ”Kai” hotel in Nikko, especially the cable car, is definitely worth the experience. The hotel is very close to the station, seemingly nestled in the mountains, but it's actually just a short walk from the hot spring town. It's bustling yet secluded. The decor is a distinctly Japanese style, combining minimalism with a wabi-sabi vibe. I personally love it. Those who enjoy this series will appreciate it, but those who prefer extravagant and elaborate décor wouldn't recommend it; they'll be disappointed. The hotel also offers free coffee and tea, as well as unlimited juice and ice cream, so children will have more fun than adults. The hot springs are incredibly beautiful. During cherry blossom season, the hot springs are right outside, and during autumn foliage season, the mountain courtyard is filled with vibrant colors. Overall, the hotel isn't large, resembling a small resort, but it's packed with details, views, and activities. There are free evening performances, the kaiseki dinner is exquisite, and the Japanese breakfast is also very delicious. A hotel worth experiencing: upscale yet not intimidating, the service is very pleasant. In addition, there are a lot of fun theme parks and attractions nearby in just five minutes’ drive. This is also the reason for the recommendation.

GGuest UserThe exterior of the hotel is pretty, but the interior of the hotel is dated and needs a bit of updating. There were parts of the hotel that were completely shut down (maybe there are saving up enough money to one day renovate). However the facilities and rooms are well maintained and the onsens are beautiful and peaceful. There are 2 main onsens, that are separated by men and women. Each day the onsens are switched, in the morning you will go to one, and in the evening before dinner you can experience the other onsen. Onsite there is a really nice restaurant and gift shop that featured local products at reasonable prices. There is a 24 hour coffee/tea station that is free to use. It's a short 10 minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. When you arrive they provide you a yukata to wear while you are staying at the hotel. The rooms are spacious with options for a western bed or japanese style (sleeping on the floor). We opted for the western bed to be higher off the ground as we thought it would be colder to sleep on the ground. Although the rooms are very well heated and was a bit too warm, that we needed to open the window to cool the room down. The rooms have nice views of the countryside. They provide a pitcher of ice water in the room and you can go to the front desk to refill with ice if more is needed. The bathroom is quite large and has both a shower and toilet in a separate room of the bathroom; although we mostly bathed in the onsen. There is a 7-eleven nearby that was open 24 hours, but otherwise there isn't much else around the hotel. Also the town of Kinugawa Onsen closes quite early, around 8pm it's quite deserted. We were there at the end of November 2024, and it seemed that the hotel was mostly unoccupied, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was a very nice one night stay.

YyuanyuanI liked a warm hotel very much, the room was super super big, and after the hotel communicated, I could take the decisive choice of the baby, booked the breakfast and dinner, and they were very rich, the seats were cooked and timed. There are very few warm-hearted public soups, and children like them very much. I will think about this next time I come to Nikko. On the first floor, you can buy special products, buy a lot, give a discount, the husband who is responsible for the cashier, the mother-in-law who served the dishes are super good.

GGuest UserI don’t understand why someone would leave a negative review due to their own negligence. Trip.com clearly mentioned the additional 300-yen tax (I assume this is the onsen tax) per person, yet they still claimed they were “scammed.” My overall experience at Hotel Euro City was wonderful. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the shuttle bus service was amazing. If you want to get to the hotel easily, check the shuttle schedule on the hotel’s homepage so you don’t have to walk from the station. They run it every day at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, and 18:15 from “Nikko Station Hotel Classic,” right next to JR Nikko Station. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the onsen in the backyard was great. It’s true that the room had a mild smell, but I assume it was due to recent pest control (it smelled like pesticide). Just open the windows for a while and it goes away. Breakfast was okay—not as fancy as in the advertisements, maybe because it wasn’t peak season. Overall, I think this is a very good choice, especially if you’re traveling with family.

玩转星球-KevinThe most important buffet dinner during the stay was served very late, and the dishes were often empty, which is very rare in Japan. Because it was less than 700 yuan and included two meals, although the hotel had many flaws, it was understandable, but the faucet in the room seemed to be broken, and the water flow was not smooth, which should be replaced. Overall, this room was acceptable.
