"We booked a two-bedroom cottage. First, the good points. The view from the cottage, which was only a couple of metres from the water's edge, is stunning. It looks across the water to the mountains beyond. It's a quiet, peaceful location. The rooms are quite spacious and the shower is good. Unfortunately, the bad points outweighed the good. I booked it because it had two bedrooms, but access to the second bedroom was via a near-vertical wooden ladder with narrow slatted rungs. Useless for anyone with mobility issues, and very awkward for anyone else. On arrival, the beds were not made up and the bedding was in plastic packaging, so we had to do it ourselves. The undersheet was single-sized and did not fit the double bed. The only furniture in either bedroom was a wardrobe (with only two coat hangers) in one of them. No bedside tables and the curtain in the bedroom let in most of the light -no good for people who like sleep in the dark when it's light outside all night. None of this is mentioned in the accommodation description and there were no photos of the inside of the accommodation. The beer and food in the restaurant were reasonably price and the food was OK, but the service was very slow."

""This hotel is a little piece of paradise for hikers. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I was in a suite room. The food is excellent, both for dinner and breakfast. I recommend you to be on half-board. At breakfast, you have the option to take a doggy bag for your hike. There is also an afternoon snack provided. There is a large reading room. Very good value ! I wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you to the Turtagro team!""

"Lovely hotel on the fjord. We enjoyed the midnight sun, admiring the fjord from our window at 11:00PM. Pleasant scenic deck afforded a great cocktail hour. Dinner was delicious and staff were fantastic. Lovely place to stay."

"As the other reviewers have already written: it was getting old. The carpet in my room was very worn. The furnishings in the room were coordinated. At first glance, the room was clean, but unfortunately on the last day something rolled under the bed and there were some paper towels there. The terrace was freshly cleaned and the garden was well-kept. An item found in the cupboard (from the previous guest in the room?) was not cleared away by room service, even though I had put a note with this request next to it (in English and in Norwegian using an online translation program). When I took it to reception, the junior manager immediately apologized for the inconvenience. There were a few mold stains in the bathroom, which are probably structural and unavoidable. Breakfast was very "British" with fish in sweet and sour and sweet mustard sauce. Packed lunches were available for 70 NOK. Dinner was youth hostel-like: there was meat and sauce, both fine. The potatoes were bought cheaply (some of them were sweet or brown inside), but mostly OK. The completely unseasoned frozen vegetables were half raw on the first day and partly raw and lukewarm on the second. The soup was from a packet, but an effort had been made to round it off a bit. Dessert was always a pudding with whipped cream. On the last day, the food was actually delicious: salmon, rice, salad and mustard sauce. The very young employees were very friendly, as was the junior manager. Only the senior manager always pulled a grumpy face and didn't seem to speak very friendly to the employees. The lake near the hotel is great: in just a few minutes you can be at a small beach and in summer you can swim. The Spar directly in front of the hotel is also pleasant."

Skjolden Resort ★★★
"The view over the fjord from these houses is incredible, but there are more places like this in Norway. The houses have extreme thin walls, so you can hear all noises grom the neighbours. Kitchen is equipped, but a lot of things are missing Cleaning was bad : still food on filter in dishwasher, hairs in shower, candy wrappers in seat… Small things not functioning , ventilation in bathroom, a lot of spots not working… on complaining nothing happened. Staff is Unhelpfull and unfriendly. They never did a thing to help or solve problems For the prices paid… i wouldn t recommend this, although the location is nice."

Walaker Hotel ★★★
"For the third time, we, a group of five late middle aged motorcyclists, decided to visit the famous Walaker Hotell. This legendary hotel is steadfastly holding on to its ambitious promise to its guests. The promise of perfection, personal attendance and stunning nature. Every time we venture to the far end of the Sogne fjord and the town of Solvorn, we arrive with anticipation of becoming pampered and leave with a content smile of someone who achieved just that. With a family who has been practicing their "hotel management skills" for nine generations, perfection has been achieved and reinvented over and over. The quality of Walaker Hotell is on a perpetual incline and the question is just how far they can go. They have reached levels that big "exclusive" hotel chains can only dream of, due to the breathtaking location, the personal and warm attention you get from the staff and owners and the 400 years of hotel history in the walls. What have those walls not witnessed? The food is absolutely delicious. Every small detail in the culinary presentation is meticulously planned, down to the flower petals on the freshly baked breakfast waffles. The wine cellar is quite impressive, especially the Champagne collection which is world class. All of this is served to you, "wrapped" in the most gorgeous surroundings that Norway has to offer. We will be back, as a group, or with our better halves, and that day cannot come soon enough."

"We stopped at Hotel Skjolden for lunch, upon the recommendation of a Norwegian we met on the Solvorn/Ornes ferry. What a great tip! We were seated on the back deck, overlooking the beautiful fjord. We enjoyed a hamburger and delicious fishsoup. As we were the only diners, we enjoyed great service and a nice talk with the restaurant manager."

"If you are looking for a hotel in this area, you don't have much choice, so you should read the hotel description carefully to avoid any surprises. The often-cited review of "aging" is quite accurate. Our room 322 in the attic was very stuffy on warm summer days and difficult to ventilate overnight. Unfortunately, the curtains are very thin, so the room is difficult to darken. Small wardrobe is OK, but there are no coat hooks in the room or bathroom. Room service simply took our deposit bottles from the table and didn't change two towels on the floor. There was no WiFi in our room. We were also disappointed with breakfast. There was only black bread and toast. Very little fruit, e.g. bananas were cut into five pieces and grapes had to be picked up individually with small tongs. Dinner was home cooking, not bad to fill you up but not a taste highlight. It's OK for a short stay. Swim in the lake when the weather is nice!"

Villa Solvorn ★★★
"Spent 1 night here while traveling thru the area with my husband and adult son . . . had wanted in all honesty to stay at the Walaker but it was booked . . and I must say that turned into a lovely surprise as we loved Villa Solvorn. They were able to accomodate us in a room that slept 4 comfortably - that was great. The inn was very lovely - more than I expected - its got a clean and stylish cottage feel. No shoes in doors (so be prepared to be in socks or bare feet) but understandable as the whole cottage has lovley painted wooden floors. Shared bathrooms (multiple options) were modern and did not pose a problem. Was able to shower and blow dry and go through full process of getting ready without difficulty or feeling like intruding on others, etc. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was well done. Many lovely sitting areas both inside and out.. and outside is adorned with lovely garden area. Really a beautiful property. Know that there is no arrival drink or any alcohol available as I believe no liquor license - but provide a fridge if you'd like to bring refreshments of your own. My one critique is that there is no water provided in the room or set out in the house. . we arrived after a full day of traveling and were hot and thirsty. Also before bed I had to take some medicine . . and again. . .found myself without an obvious way to have a glass of water (rooted around in kitchen until I found a mug . . .but this felt awkward and would have preferred to have a glass or a water bottle in room). Small thing though. Wifi worked great. Stay was really much more than I expected - a lovely surprise. Also - host Oscar made reservations for us for dinner at Walaker . .also a nice touch. Actually glad Walaker was booked . . we got to enjoy a meal there . . and then wonderful accomodations at this inn."
