The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station. Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor. Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out. Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though. I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

First, if you're looking for a quiet and comfortable night, choose somewhere else. During the day, the street is noisy, and at night, people drink until the early hours, with loud motorcycles roaring by. Staying here feels like trying to sleep while someone is talking right next to your ear. Second, the room is tiny—there’s no desk for skincare or makeup, and nowhere to sit except the bed. The bedding is low-quality, and the mattress has a weird bulge in the middle. Furthermore, Since the room faces the street, there’s zero privacy. You can’t even open the curtains during the day because the street is so narrow that people across can see everything inside.

The location is good (just around the corner is the cathedral), but it is a hotel with a restaurant, so I had to wait for a long time when checking in. No one rang the bell at the counter, and no one even called me. I waited for more than 10 minutes. There were other people waiting too. There was no elevator. Help to carry it up (4th floor). After checking out, I waited for no one to carry it down by myself. It took a long time before someone came to check out. It was a bit cold in the attic. The quilt was not warm enough and the supplies were good.
