Zheng He's Maritime Expedition Beacon Tower

The Bao Tower of Shengshou, also known as the Three Peaks Temple Tower, is located at the west gate of Zheng He Park in Changle District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. It was originally built in the third year of Shao Sheng during the reign of Emperor Zhezong of the Northern Song Dynasty (1096), covering an area of 3,000 square meters. The Bao Tower of Shengshou was later renamed the Three Peaks Tower. The Three Peaks Tower has a beautiful shape and exquisite carvings. The tower is a stone pagoda in the style of a pavilion, octagonal with seven stories, and stands 27.4 meters tall. The first floor has one gate, the second to sixth floors each have two gates, and the seventh floor has four gates. The stone base is octagonal, and the tower body has seven octagonal stories, with a height of 27.4 meters. The base of the tower is supported by strongmen, with eight sides decorated with stone carvings of lions, peonies, and other patterns. From the second floor up, it is built in the style of a pavilion, with dragon head-shaped brackets at the corners of each eave. The tower walls are embossed with seated Buddha in lotus flowers. On the front of the tower, two compassionate and kind-looking Bodhisattvas are carved, one is Samantabhadra riding an elephant, and the other is Manjushri riding a lion. The tower has a total of 50 uniquely posed Arhats, 8 fierce and bold Dharmapala Kings, 16 graceful and beautiful flying Apsaras, 16 mighty and majestic lions, and eight branches of beautifully realistic peonies. On May 25, 2006, the Bao Tower of Shengshou was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as a national key cultural relic protection unit in the sixth batch.
