Gan Yao Town, a lesser-known attraction in Jiaxing, where bricks are fired in 'a thousand kilns'

💥After finishing my tour of Xitang Ancient Town, I had plenty of time left before my return trip. I wondered what other interesting places were nearby. I remembered seeing an introduction to Jiaxing's kiln industry and Gan Yao Town in the Jiaxing Museum the day before. A quick check on the navigation showed that it was only about 7 kilometers from Xitang, so I hurried over. 🌿Gan Yao Town is not a tourist attraction. Behind its seemingly ordinary appearance, it was once an important place for brick firing in Jiaxing. Here, I recommend three places worth exploring and suitable for leisurely strolling. ▪️Longzhuang Lecture Temple: This is a temple with a story. The name of the temple originates from the commemoration of a kiln master surnamed Long, who made the kiln industry here famous, and the bricks and tiles were even sold to the capital. Now the incense is strong here, although there were not many tourists when I went, but it is said that people living in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai also come here specifically to pray for blessings. ▪️Shen Family Kiln: The Shen Family Kiln has a history of more than 200 years, and its fame is actually closely related to the Longzhuang Lecture Temple mentioned above. Not only that, it is also the kiln site that is still in operation in Jiaxing, known as the kiln keeper. It is open to the public, and you can fully see the work and life scenes inside. ▪️Gan Yao Old Street: An old street full of life, a river divides it into East Street and West Street. Although some buildings on the street seem dilapidated, there are still a few families living here. There is no commercialization, only a small area where local people set up stalls to sell clothes, and the rest are mainly elderly people. 📝The above three places are adjacent and can be walked between.
