Egypt | Luxor Temple

🛕The Luxor Temple is located on the east bank of the Upper Nile River, more than 670 kilometers south of Cairo, and is situated on the southern half of the ancient city of Thebes, which was the capital of both the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. The most striking monuments in the Luxor complex are the Karnak Temple on the east bank of the Nile and the Luxor Temple. Luxor has become a modern tourist city and a popular tourist destination in Egypt. 🕌The Luxor Temple proves the glory of Luxor's past. It was built by Amenhotep III, the 19th pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of ancient Egypt, to worship the sun god Amun, his wife, and son, the moon god. Later, it was expanded by Ramses II in the late 18th dynasty, forming the scale that remains today. 🛤️This nearly 3-kilometer-long Avenue of Sphinxes connects the Luxor Temple and the Karnak Temple. During the annual Opet Festival, Egyptians parade along this road and reenact the statues of Amun and Mut with symbolic marriages. At the Luxor Temple, Amun magically transforms into the god of fertility - Min. 🗼In front of the Tower Gate, there were originally two square obelisks. The one that still exists is 25 meters high, weighs 254 tons, and is made of red granite. The one on the right is 22.5 meters high, weighs 227 tons, and was moved to the Concord Square by the French in 1835.
