The national cultural heritage site spanning the East Zhejiang Canal—scenic views by the Tongji Bridge in Yuyao

Tongji Bridge is located at the foot of Longquan Mountain in the center of Yuyao City, above the Yao River, and has a history of over a thousand years. It is also one of the iconic ancient buildings in Yuyao. According to the 'Yuyao County Annals', the bridge was originally built during the Northern Song Dynasty, initially as a wooden bridge named Dehui Bridge, later renamed to Hong Bridge, and was repeatedly built and destroyed. During the Yuan Dynasty, it was rebuilt into a stone three-arch bridge and officially named Tongji Bridge. Tongji Bridge is a crucial traffic hub for Chengguan Town in Yuyao City, close to Shunjiang Building to the north and leading to Jiangnan Direct Street to the south; boats can travel east to Ningbo and west to Shaoxing. On October 16, 2019, the Tongji Bridge in Yuyao was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
