No matter how many times I’m visiting Shanghai city, I always failed to visit the Wukang building, until now. The area has been built up around this ‘famous’ landmark, often being used for wedding photos. The underneath area of Wukang has been changed into small cafes and studios. It’s interesting to see how much focus has been put into the area. A worthwhile visit.

Wukang Road | The undisputed No.1 literary and artistic road in Shanghai
Although there are more people than in previous years, I unilaterally believe that Wukang Road is still the most beautiful among so many popular roads in Shanghai, and I hope it can become an evergreen tree of literary and artistic roads!

Do you still not know the places in Shanghai suitable for a City walk?
I used to always go to Shanghai, but I never had the time to stop and truly appreciate the alleyways and historic Western-style buildings behind this bustling city. Recently, I came across photos from almost a decade ago, and they still attract me to visit again and again.
This is the WuKang Building, once known as the Normandie Apartments, located at No. 1850, Middle Huaihai Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, at the intersection of five streets: Wukang Road, Xingguo Road, Middle Huaihai Road, Tianping Road, and Yuqing Road. It is Shanghai's first veranda-style apartment building. The WuKang Building was constructed in the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), and its shape resembles a giant ship.
The WuKang Building is situated at a sharp 30-degree angle naturally formed between Wukang Road and Middle Huaihai Road. In the 1920s, the famous Hungarian architect László Hudec, who lived in Shanghai, cleverly utilized the 30-degree street corner formed by the intersection of the two roads in his overall design. He adapted to local conditions and designed the building's plan in a triangular shape, resembling 'a large ship cutting through the waves.' To solve the issues of lighting and ventilation, two openings were created on the north side.
The building's facade is in the French Renaissance style, with the first and second floors featuring the Southeast Asian common arcade style, where the arches form a long corridor for pedestrians to shelter from the sun and rain. The facade is a cement wall surface, like the base of a lotus flower, with the ground floor exterior wall consisting of continuous arched arcades. The third to seventh floors are made of fair-faced red brick walls, designed with triangular window lintels, small balconies with iron railings, and the top floor's balcony wraps around the entire building's exterior wall. The third floor and the top floor have circular corridors that can serve as fire escape routes and replace the waistline, beautifying the facade. The third-floor facade is decorated with triangular European-style window lintels, and the fourth to fifth floors have some projecting balconies.

I prefer the night over the day

Wu Kang Mansion and Any Road
I arrived in Shanghai, eager to explore its vibrant streets. One of my first stops was the iconic Wukang Mansion, a beautiful blend of Western and Chinese architectural styles. As I wandered along Anfu Road, I was captivated by the charming tree-lined avenue, dotted with boutiques and cafes. Shanghai's unique blend of tradition and modernity was truly captivating, making my visit unforgettable.
An adult's way of healing might be a citywalk
If you can't go far, why not take a citywalk. The wind under the parasol tree brings the long-lost coolness of summer. From the lush green plants to the excellent historical buildings, all are healing elements in this citywalk.
1️⃣Net Green Building
The building covered with ivy looks like a green castle in the anime. Located at the intersection of Yongjia Road and Taiyuan Road, you can take a full view of the building from the opposite corner of the street!
2️⃣Romeo's Balcony
'Then window, let day in, and let life out.'
This Spanish-style balcony is very much like the balcony Romeo climbed up, so it is called 'Romeo's Balcony', which sounds very romantic.
3️⃣Rosa Gallica
A flower shop on Wukang Road, a glass room garden, there will be fragrance testing activities from time to time. Flowers and perfumes have a rock-solid attraction for girls.
4️⃣6️⃣8️⃣9️⃣Sinan Mansion
The Sinan Bookstore in picture 4 is a bookstore transformed from the 25th building of Sinan Mansion. The exterior of the old western-style house and the modern interior design collide to create a brilliant spark.
Pictures 8 and 9 of Sinan Mansion's commercial district, with small and elegant restaurants of different cuisines, is a good place to go for a meal on weekends.
5️⃣Wukang Building
A soul building that citywalk can't lack, like a battleship on land, it is also a popular check-in place in recent years.
7️⃣Antique Garden
An antique shop / coffee shop on Sinan Road, very much like the corner shop where magicians appear in the movie.
The first internet celebrity building in Magic City, Wukang Building
Check in at the first internet celebrity building in Magic City, Wukang Building
Wukang Building, built in 1924, has a history of nearly 100 years. It is one of the only three ship-shaped buildings in the world, the first gallery-style apartment building in Shanghai, with French Renaissance architectural style, formerly known as Normandy Apartments.
At the intersection of five roads, the triangular building stands tall. Coupled with the red brick walls all over, it is particularly eye-catching and looks very much like a giant ship ready to set sail.
During the Republic of China, many celebrities and stars lived in Wukang Building, which can be called the residence with the most celebrities in Shanghai. Nowadays, many films have been shot here, and tourists who check in here are endless every day.
With red bricks and tiles overlapping, Wukang Building witnesses the changes and growth of Shanghai, showing people the traces of the blend of ancient and modern times after settling down. for Beautiful China
Under the shadow of the plane trees, all I see is romance | Wukang Road Anfu Road
| Wukang Road Anfu Road.
Shanghai has many beautiful and romantic old neighborhoods. Under the shadow of the plane trees, all I see is romance.
Today, I'm going to visit the top-notch Anfu Road and Wukang Road. I usually get off at Changshu Road Station on Metro Line 1, exit from Exit 8, and walk for about seven or eight minutes along the road sign to Anfu Road. If you keep going, you'll connect to Wukang Road, and if you walk to the end, you'll see the landmark Wukang Building.
Walking, watching and taking pictures along the way, if you're tired, you can just walk into a coffee shop on the side of the road and take a break, so I highly recommend this route!
Anfu Road: The collision of history and culture with modern fashion
Wukang Road: The blend of long history and artistic atmosphere, the famous Wukang Building is located at the intersection of Wukang Road, Tianping Road and Huaihai Road.
Romeo's Balcony: A witness to romantic love, Picture 6
Located at No. 210 Wukang Road, it is a Spanish-style building
Tip: There are more mosquitoes under the plane trees in the evening, you can bring mosquito repellent water
You must visit Shanghai at least once~ It's indeed a great place for photography and sightseeing!
Today's citywalk around Wukang Road in Shanghai👀
This area, known as one of the most European-style districts in the central city of Shanghai, is home to the former residences of celebrities like Ba Jin and cultural relics.
The architecture is unique, with the Wukang Building built in 1924 resembling a huge ship~ It has now become a popular spot for internet celebrities to check in😎
Find a coffee shop nearby☕, sit by the window, hold up a cup of hot coffee, enjoy the beauty of idling away time while admiring the shimmering plane trees on both sides of the road under the warm winter sun.
📸Photography tips:
I think the Wukang Building looks pretty good from all angles, this time I found that shooting from the position of Mstand coffee shop has a different mood, if there are few people around, and there is traffic on the road, it must be very good~
I actually ate a Wukang Building
This celebrity road, known as 'a condensed version of Shanghai's modern history of nearly a hundred years', where Wukang Building, celebrity residences, and various internet-famous stores are gathered. Wukang Road was originally named Fokaisen Road, and was renamed Wukang Road in 1943, with the most representative building being the Wukang Building. Now there are many coffee shops, milk tea shops, flower shops, galleries, etc. on Wukang Road, all of which are super photogenic! Along Wukang Road, there are plane trees for a kilometer, suitable for a person or friends to take a walk.
Be sure to visit these three streets before leaving Shanghai
🔸Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is near the Huangpu River🌊, the sky is often covered with thick clouds☁️, but the diversified and modern buildings just outline a layered picture with the clouds🎨. Elements from all over the world are gathered here📍, walking on the street, you may even have a hard time figuring out where you are, which is quite mysterious🔮

The ancient buildings on this road were built by architects from Italy, Spain, and the UK. The lofts have gorgeous decorations🎊, strong colors🎨, and exquisite shapes, full of European style🏰. Late Autumn on Wukang Road | A golden fairy tale world
| A golden fairy tale world.🌟Golden autumn:
Shanghai Wukang Road, not only a geographical mark, but also a symbol of emotion and culture. When stepping into late autumn, Wukang Road becomes a romantic holy land in people's hearts. The golden plane leaves are flying all over the sky, the French plane trees all over the sky have dyed the whole street yellow, as if bringing people into a golden fairy tale world.
❤Colorful paintings:
On both sides of Wukang Road, the retro buildings are lined up, each house seems to be telling a historical story. These buildings are decorated with colorful autumn colors, some leaves fall on the roof, some leaves fall on the window sill, as if the painter of nature is adding a thick autumn to these buildings.
👍Beautiful mottled picture scroll:
The sun shines through the plane leaves on the road, the mottled light and shadow is like a beautiful picture scroll, people can't help but stop to capture this beautiful moment. #timetotravel
Wukang mansion (武康大楼) is a historical residential building that used to be home of many celebrities. And today, the building is home to retired government officials, I am not sure if it is allowed to go in for a visit but I would not recommend doing so to disturb current residences.
I do recommend taking pictures across the street of Wukang mansion (like I did!!!) so you get the full view of it. Since Wukang mansion is right by a crosswalk, it can get really busy, so be sure to find the perfect angle for pictures.

#meetshanghai
Labelled as the No. 1 Instagram spot in Shanghai, this area is always busy. You’ll see wedding shoots or even just everyday photo shoots happening across the street from the Wukang Building.
