#Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
China's first national forest park
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first national forest park in China, and it is a World Natural Heritage site. It features a quartz sandstone peak forest landform, also known as the Zhangjiajie landform, which is the only landform in the world named after a region. Many famous people have visited Zhangjiajie and left inscriptions as a memento.
Entering Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is like stepping into a true world geological park! As you enter the forest park, you are greeted by a forest of peculiar peaks, with exquisitely shaped and lively mountains coming into view. The landscape is unparalleled in the world, with no trace of human sculpting, truly a marvel of nature's craftsmanship. The world's number one natural stone bridge spans between two mountains, the Hallelujah Mountains in 'Avatar' stand tall and erect, the beauty of the peaks and valleys of Huangshi Village, the staggered mountains, such as the 'Little Waist', the portrait on the hundred-yuan bill, the God-coming Peak, the Star-picking Platform, all seem to bear some resemblance.
Strolling along the wooden walkway of Jinbian Stream, the sunlight filters through the lush forest, weaving through the peaks and quiet valleys, listening to the ding-dong of the mountain streams, watching the monkeys by the road that are not afraid of tourists, looking up at the whimsically shaped stone peaks and letting your imagination run wild, the figures and stories that are both like and unlike anything you've seen are all very beautiful and spectacular!

Touring the mountains and waters of Zhangjiajie, visiting the seventy-two strange towers
Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is breathtakingly beautiful|||It rained a bit today. There was a layer of fog on the water when we went. It was really breathtakingly beautiful. I recommend everyone to go. It's super beautiful~
Zhangjiajie is really a place where you accidentally enter a fairyland, Zhangjiajie two-day route recommendation|||Characteristics of each scenic spot:
● Yuanjiajie: There are hundreds of dragon ladders, Avatar shooting location, many tour groups.
● Tianzi Mountain: The scenic spots are concentrated, less time-consuming, easy and effortless, and there are many tour groups.
● Yangjiajie: Low level of development, few people, few tour groups, Wulongzhai and Tianbofu scenic spots have been struck by lightning and are temporarily closed.
● Huangshi Village: Independent scenic spot, few people, few tour groups, long total time (2 hours on foot).
● Ten-mile Gallery: The entrance and exit are a line, with a ground rail train.
● Jinbianxi: Much better looking than the Ten-mile Gallery, the tour group will not walk the whole journey (2.5 hours in total).
●PS: If time is limited, don't stick to popular scenic spots like Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain. The scenery on the mountain is actually similar. The scenery of Huangshi Village can completely replace it, and there are fewer people. If you choose one of the Ten-mile Gallery and Jinbianxi, definitely choose Jinbianxi. If you walk the whole journey, there are very few people.
●Two-day recommended route (the route I took)
DAY1:
Sign door in→Bus→Bailong ladder up→Yuanjiajie→Bus→Yangjiajie→Bus→Tianzi Mountain→Cable car down→Bus→→Sign door out
DAY2:
Sign door in→Bus→Jinbianxi→Bus→ Huangshi Village (cable car up and down)→Bus→Exit of Forest Park
Section bus:
Take the bus, on the route from the sign door to various scenic spots, sit in the same position as the driver, the scenery outside the window is back to the mountain and facing the scene, it looks better. From Yangjiajie to Tianzi Mountain, and the route back to the sign door, sit on the right side of the driver, the scenery is good.
The journey often passes through several scenic spots. Pay attention to the station shouted by the master and ask more to avoid getting off the wrong station. You can also tell the master if you want to get off halfway. The journey from Yangjiajie to Tianzi Mountain is longer, about 30-40 minutes, and it is a minibus.
Except for Yuanjiajie is Bailong ladder, the other 3 mountain scenic spots all have cable cars up and down. One way is 65-72 yuan, ends at 18:00, it is recommended to sit on the side of the cable car operation, then turn around and lean on the glass to see the scenery, sacrifice some comfort, but the scenery is in full view.
Walking up and down the mountain
Generally walking is to walk the chaotic slope of Yuanjiajie, the whole journey is about 1.5 hours, it should be just walking, there is no scenery. In general, the scenic spots are just looking at a large piece of bamboo shoot-like mountains from different angles. The part of the mountain is just walking in the forest and constantly switching between going to the observation deck to look out. Some observation decks have a wide view, and some are blocked by trees and cannot see the full view of the scenery, but the overall scenery is not much different. The momentum is magnificent, it can be said that after seeing the mountains of Wulingyuan, ordinary mountains can't enter the eyes, and they can't be seen.
The roads on the mountain, including the roads of Tianmen Cave, the span and quantity of ups and downs are moderate, and there is not much reaction after walking for 2 days, and those with good foot strength should not need equipment for the whole journey.
Zhangjiajie Seventy-two Strange Tower Zhangjiajie Seventy-two Strange Tower, a fairyland that brightens up in front of you!✨🏯|||Today I want to recommend a tourist attraction that you absolutely can't miss-Zhangjiajie Seventy-two Strange Tower! The scenery here is really beautiful that it brightens my eyes! 😍
A towering tower,
It's like coming to a fairy tale world!
It's a beautiful spot that makes people linger!

Gorgeous Avatar mountains (after rain)
Location: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 227¥ (ticket + bus)
Date: July 19, 2022
Avatar mountains are incredible no matter how’s the weather. After the rain or on rainy days the scenery looks more beautiful and mysterious.
As it often rains here, you need to take a raincoat and an umbrella with you or buy them from small shops.
Here we can see a natural bridge, which unites 2 huge peaks. It looks really amazing. People also make wishes and tie them on the bridge.

Hard to Capture !!! 😍 The most Amazing Mountains
I don't know how to describe the landscapes I had the chance to be in !! 🥲
No matter how many pictures/videos we see, it is another level when the environment swallows you in and you become part of it.
Sharp edges and spiky mountains, stairs and stairs to the top and relaxing rides on the cable cars
I recommend people climbing up the mountains and taking the cable cars down! feels like a reward after a tough day 😌 . I spent 3 days and that's enough to see pretty much the whole park! it is so convenient as the buses to link different spots saves you some time (and that is included in the National Park ticket price).
just go !!! 😆😆😆

Ho guys,
For those you have seen Avatar, would you like to visit and see with your own eyes the Navi planet ?
If you go to Zhangjiajie national forest park, your dream will come true 😁
This park is huge, at least 3 full days will be mandatory is you want to visit each corners, see the temples, do some hiking and meet the monkeys 🙈
You will also need a hotel nearby. I would recommend the Whispering hotel (nearby, easy access and the team drives you to the closest gate).
Peace ✌️

The iconic Zhangjiajie
Can’t explain the Incredible scenery in Zhangjiajie, Hunan ⛰ Most famous for the avatar mountains.
This place has been on my bucket list to see for a long time, extremely happy to finally have visited!😍
Highly recommend Zhangjiajie National Forest.
Would suggest to stay closer to the east gate as this is the main entrance of the forest. This way you don’t waste time to commute everyday from the city centre.
You can purchase a ticket for multiple days. I would suggest to spend at least 3 days exploring the different spots. #zhangjiajie #avatar #mountain #zhangjiajietravel #scenic #mountains

World of Avatar
Most breathtaking view of a lifetime!
It’s my second time to visit the national park. First back in 2016 it’s the most amazing time because everything is covered with snow so you feel like your in very top of the world and and it feels really like the movie avatar. That time I went is around February, but this photo is taken last November. I’d still prefer the month of February it’s cold and very beautiful that you won’t forget. ALSO BEWARE OF THE MONKEYS! They look cute but they are very dangerous and aggressive!
Ticket price to National Park is around 228-118 RMB it depends on the season.

Baby Monkeys in the Avatar Mountains
#mountainview #china #zhangjiajie
There is something magical about the mountains in Zhangjiajie. Not only were they the inspiration behind the floating mountains in the blockbuster Avatar movies, but they are also the inspiration behind countless traditional paintings and literature.
During the summer you can stay cool whilst visiting due to being in the clouds, but I advise from bringing any food in plastic bags, I saw many a snack being pinched by the cheeky monkeys!

A National Forest Park Like No Other
There are unique & breathtaking places on earth then there is Zhangjiajie National Forest Park! Now there’s been talk that the mountain formations were the inspo behind Avatar & that’s all well and good. What this place is actually is indescribable. The mountain silos here are one of a kind and also look like naturally formed skyscrapers. There are numerous entry points to the park and sections to it so apportion at least 3 full days to see this entire park. Yes, every section is as gorgeous as the last. To get the famous Tianzi section we took a bus, hiked, got terrorized by those unruly and rude monkeys, a cable car, another bus, more hiking then voila. Also got to take earth’s tallest outdoor elevator, called Bailong. You’ll do well going in Autumn or spring, get comfy shoes for the walks & preferably a staff for those monkeys or your day will certainly be ruined. Furthermore, get snacks & water if you want to live. just let those beasts see it.

Pillars' Forest - The Amazing Nature
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park became China's first national park in 1982. This park which was later known as Avatar Hallelujah Mountain is a park of quartz-sandstone pillars. The pillars are from the natural process of the changing weather.
By riding the Bailong elevator which literally means a hundred dragons elevator, we can see this breathtaking view of the park. These 3 elevators that run parallelly offer sightseeing for visitors. The elevator itself is 326m and became the world's tallest outdoor lift when it was opened to the public in 2002. It can carry around 60 people at a time.
It's just an amazing experience to be there to enjoy this natural beauty.

Avatar (Hallelujah) mountain, Zhangjiajie
It was my second time I visited he park since May 2013 and the experience was very different.
1. Herds of tourists (end of July, low risk zone)
2. The weather. In July I was "lucky" to enjoy several days of sunny weather and only 1 day of evening rain and IMHO Zhangjiajie turns into Pandora only when it's rainy - in sunny days these are just other Chinese mountains.
3. Development. I even don't remember where I lived in 2013, most likely in Zhangjiajie town, this July we lived in Wulingyuan, very close to the entrance. Of course this whole area changed, too, together with China
Also due to covid there were a lot of budget and really good options, including the hotel we stayed in.
A few tips: the ticket is for 4 days, don't rush the first day. Prepare in advance, get a map of the park (in our hotel it was available at reception for free). There are some other highlights like glass bridge and Tianmen mountain, the bridge isn't in the park (as I thought before the trip).
Enjoy! #zhangjiajie #avatarmountains

Zhangjiajie National Forest park is a MUST VISIT place in China. It is difficult to explain with words how this place is, we are still staggered and stunned after visiting it…
It is crazy cool, it is like a city with skyscrapers made out of mountains and greenery with insane formations and among them is misty, full of magical corridors and hollows in which some of them are raining like if it was the last day on earth and another ones chilled drizzling…
We spent three days exploring the park and we had enough time to see all the places but the ticket is valid for 4 days, which is quite nice!

Hellelujah! A Glorious Scenic Site
There's a lot of hype about the mountains that inspired "Avatar", and this national park cashes in on it in a big way. Wulingyuan town is full of murals of scenes from the movie, and you'll see stills from the film printed in the tourist maps etc.
The forest park lives up to the hype though. With or without "Avatar" in our collective consciousness, the scenery is truly breathtaking and worth every step. I visited in peak season, but the park is large enough that it didn't feel overhwlemingly crowded and waiting time for shuttles etc was a maximum of 10 minutes. This was a pleasant surprise compared with my experience in Tianmen Mountain.
Be prepared for a LOT of walking. The park is huge, and even though there are shuttles and really awesome cableways etc, you'll still be spending a considerable amount of time on foot. My fitness device recorded about 30000 steps after my explorations in the park.
You need 2 days to complete the park. I and a small group of friends were able to complete the main attractions (most of the orange routes). However, there is a much longer green route (hiking/walking through the lower part of the valley) that will require a day on it's own. For this reason, it's best to book a hotel in Wulingyuan (near the East gate is best) and get started as early as possible each day.
Experience rating: 8/10
P.S. The monkeys may be cute, but they are not shy and they will snatch food and other belongings from the unwary. When going through monkey territory, keep everything in your bag.

If you loved the beautiful mountains of Pandora from the famous Hollywood director James Cameron's movie "Avatar" then you will absolutely be in love with the Avatar mountains of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Avatar Mountains are the thousands of towering mountain pillars in Yuanjiajie Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Wulingyuan District of Hunan Province in South China.
📍Getting there - We took a train from Guangzhou to Changsha and then a bus from Changsha to Zhangjiajie. It is very well-connected via train and bus as it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Zhangjiajie city.
⭐️ Attractions - Zhangjiajie national forest park has many tourist attractions among which Avatar mountains also known as Tianzi mountain is one of my favorites.
Other than this Yuanjiajie and Yangjiajie scenic areas, Bailong elevator, Baofeng lake, Golden whip stream are just a few attractions to name in this forest park.

Trail walkers paradise ⛰️
Inside the national park there are walking routes, shuttle busses and cableways to take you to see each of the different peaks.
In between each peak we chose to walk the trails which were quiet and much less crowded.
The scenery is spectacular.
Getting there- From Zhangjiajie train station or airport it's an affordable taxi ride to the national park.
Food- We stayed in the National park for a week and enjoyed all our meals, everything has a spicy kick though.

a lifetime trip to the land of "Avatar"!
One my best place ls I've ever been to in China. Zhangjiajie national forest park is a must-visit. If you love nature then it's a must visit. Be sure to check the weather in advance, avoid the foggy and rainy weather to have a better view for the mountains. The park is damn huge, I'd say one day is not enough if you'd love explore the whole park (not necessary). I've been to all best places and vantage in just one day (thanks to my local colleagues I met, it was all by coincidence!) be ready for 15k steps 😎. Yuanjiajie is the most famous part in the park (where Avatar mountains are located). My favorite place to take photos was 武士驯马 (u can search it in Baidu maps), not many people knew about this part. #china #hunan #zhangjiajie #avatar #mountains #expatlife

Getting There - traveled on the sleeper train from Guangzhou to Zhangjiajie. Paid for a hard sleeper it was an interesting experience, the train was quite bumpy and if you are a light sleep you have been woken up a lot.
Attractions - Visited the Zhangjiajie national park, saw a lot of beautiful landscape, especially the hallelujah mountain, went on the first natural bridge. went to Tiamen mountain and rode the longer cable car.
Hotels - stayed at a cheap hotel in downtown Zhangjiajie.
Food & Restaurants - we had a tour guide who recommended a few restaurants in the Zhangjiajie national park town. #nationalpark #awesomepic

Recommendations:
-Beautiful all year round, although try to avoid during national holidays, as this is a major tourist destination.
- Start your day early to avoid the crowds. Check and double check covid restrictions, Zhangjiajie is very strict!
-The best place to stay is Wulingyuan District
-If you want to save money, don't mind a hike and want to avoid the crowds skip the Bailong Elevator. In our opinion it's not worth the wait.
- You can see all the highlights in one day, however, 2 days would better. If you are keen to do all the hiking and surrounding attractions, you could spend a full 4 days here.
