It is one of the four old streets in Lianyungang City's historical development and changes (Haizhou Ancient City, Minzhu Road Culture Street, Lianyungang Old Street, Nancheng Six Dynasties Street). In the 1920s and 1930s, the commercial boom of Minzhu Road was known as the "small Shanghai" in northern Jiangsu. Not far from the north, it also formed a smaller market. Because it is located north of the street, people call it the "back street" (now Jianguo Road). Before liberation, there was a road to catch up with several old streets, the largest road in Xinpu at the time. People called it "South Road" or "Main Road" (now the Antarctic Road to Longwei River section of Jiefang Middle Road).
