"Honestly, the hotel is quite good. It still looks grand and upscale. The room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped, and the service was excellent. The food wasn't expensive, and the hotel's location is fantastic; getting anywhere is incredibly convenient. My only complaint is that the ground floor feels a bit chaotic, with some small shops at the entrance/exit detracting from the hotel's image."

Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan

9,3/10
Very Good

This is by far the best value five-star hotel in Taiyuan. The management is well-organized, and the hygiene is consistently excellent, making you feel right at home. Both the facilities and services are well-maintained. The surrounding area offers a complete range of commercial amenities and convenient transportation, with a subway entrance right next to the hotel. Tianmei and Beimei New World shopping centers are just next door. Overall, it's great value for money. The only minor drawback is that it's an older hotel and could use a full renovation. Given that Shanxi is a strong tourist province, a refurbishment would certainly justify a price increase.

The breakfast here is probably the best I've ever had! So many options and really hearty dishes, no wonder everyone who visits Shanxi needs a nap afterwards šŸ’¤. Service was good, though they weren't very flexible with upgrades this time. Also, the projection in the movie room wasn't working properly… The welcome fruit was just okay, didn't really fancy it. The first Starbucks coffee on the first day of my stay was a nice touch though – perfect for an early morning pick-me-up.

Garden Hotel

Garden Hotel holds a special place in the hearts of Datong locals; every taxi driver I met spoke highly of it. The location is excellent, right within the ancient city, making it convenient to get anywhere. I had two meals at the hotel, and the quality was very good. On my last day, I tried a popular, queue-inducing restaurant near the ancient city gate, but it honestly wasn't as good as the food at the Garden Hotel. The breakfast selection was limited, but the quality was decent. My room had a smart toilet, but the shower stall was too small. The soundproofing could also be a bit better. On my first day, after a lot of walking, my ingrown toenail flared up. A male staff member at the hotel's recreation center quickly fixed it for me, and by the next day, it didn't hurt at all! šŸ‘ Overall, after a three-day stay, I am very satisfied with Garden Hotel.

Yungang Jianguo Hotel

I carefully chose Jianguo Hotel because I suffer from lower back pain and can't sleep on soft beds. After contacting the front desk and confirming they had firm mattresses, I immediately booked a room (and they promptly changed it for me upon check-in, which I was very happy about). As some reviews mentioned, the room did have a slight musty smell (I personally think it might be related to the carpet). However, the room's decor was well-maintained and didn't look outdated. The hotel staff were all very energetic; everyone I met, from the security guards at the lobby entrance to the housekeepers, greeted me and were very dedicated, showing excellent hotel management. The breakfast was plentiful, and the staff even packed small lunchboxes with bread and milk for my kids when they found out they were going to Yanmenguan. The free bathing service on the fifth floor was also excellent; my daughter went every day and was very pleased. I'd like to thank Li Jianhua and Ding Xiaogang from the recreation department. The late 2 PM checkout was very thoughtful, allowing us to rest in the afternoon. Overall, my whole family had a great impression of Jianguo Hotel.

Let me elaborate. **Courtyard Design:** Very beautiful, many scenic spots within the ancient city are decorated in a similar style. **Room Amenities:** Given the prime location, the room isn't large, perhaps around 15 square meters. It has all the essentials and is very clean. The mattress was comfortable. Of course, it can't compare to high-end or luxury hotels. Its main advantage is its excellent location; it's very convenient for exploring, and you can easily pop back for a rest when you get tired. **Service:** The staff were very service-oriented. When we arrived, there weren't many guests, and the service was very attentive. **Breakfast:** It's not a buffet; it's a fixed-menu breakfast, like a 'nine-grid' style. It looks very appealing, and the taste is decent enough to fill you up. Overall, it's a good stay. Naturally, for this price point within the ancient city, you shouldn't compare it to hotels of the same price outside. It's incomparable, primarily due to its superb geographical advantage.

Located right next to the Confucius Temple, it's incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The rooms have a traditional decor and are very warm. The hotel grounds are really spacious. We arrived late at night, but it was so easy because we'd messaged the hotel on WeChat beforehand to arrange a complimentary business shuttle pick-up from the high-speed rail station. Their service is excellent and proactive. Since it was the off-season, they even upgraded us to a larger room for free, which was fantastic value for money. With traditional kang beds, old-fashioned door locks, and a classic courtyard, it's perfect for guests who want to experience traditional culture.

Ancient City Courtyard Hotel, Linfen, Shanxi, China

If you're traveling to Linfen, Shanxi, I genuinely recommend Gu Cheng Da Yuan. It's not a hotel in the usual sense; it's more like staying in a living piece of history. The moment you push open the heavy wooden door, the city's hustle and bustle are shut out. It's a genuine old house, not some 'faux-ancient' style. šŸ›ļø The stay was more comfortable than I expected. The room was spacious, antique in style, but not at all dark. āœ” Underfloor heating + central air conditioning throughout, so no fear of the cold in winter. āœ” Turn on the projector and binge-watching shows in bed at night was incredibly satisfying šŸ“½ļø. āœ” Welcome fruit, tea, coffee, cocktails šŸ¹, and afternoon tea šŸ«– were all prepared. āœ” 24-hour butler service, always responsive. āœ” Takeout can be delivered directly to the room – super friendly for lazy people. 🄟 The attention to detail was a real bonus. On the Winter Solstice, I actually got to eat dumplings handmade by the hotel, and I suddenly felt 'cared for'. The breakfast menu changes daily, so you don't get tired of it. šŸ’†ā™€ļø This was a truly relaxing, 'lie-flat' vacation. This time, I also tried the newly introduced sound bowl healing at the hotel, which made me so relaxed I didn't want to talk throughout the session. Even if I didn't leave all day, just soaking up the sun, reading, and daydreaming in the courtyard felt completely worth it. šŸ“ø Every corner is picture-perfect. Carved window lattices, grey brick corridors – every spot is Instagrammable. If you're looking for a trip where you don't have to rush your itinerary or exert yourself, but simply want to stay somewhere excellent and peaceful, then Gu Cheng Da Yuan is truly a place to just lie back and relax šŸ¤Ž. #LinfenAccommodation #StayInJinShangCourtyard #ImmersiveAncientStyleHotel #StayHereInLinfen #HappyWhileLyingDown

Based on reviews, the hotel's food was good, and considering that staying at the hotel would save me from having to go out to find a restaurant, I placed an order. The hotel is conveniently located with a large parking lot, and the breakfast selection was decent. The downsides were: (1) The hotel room was exposed to the sun all afternoon, but the air conditioner was no longer providing cooling, only ventilation, making it feel quite stuffy. It wasn't until late at night when the temperature dropped that I finally got through the heat. (2) One of the dishes at dinner was stinky mandarin fish (Ā„168). I didn't expect that the preparation method involved splitting the fish open from the back and frying the fish meat. After being fried, the fish meat became tough and lacked the original chewy texture of stinky mandarin fish, completely changing its flavor. You should know that guests who order stinky mandarin fish must know what it is and have eaten it before. Those who don't know about stinky mandarin fish generally won't order fish with the word ā€stinkyā€ in their name. I suggest that the hotel inform guests if the stinky mandarin fish is not prepared in the traditional Anhui style.
