This was my second stay at Jianguo Hotel Yungang, and it was quite satisfying. The front desk saw my room preferences (non-smoking, quiet) and provided a room that met my expectations, which was great! The breakfast selection was as plentiful as ever. This time, there were a lot of guests, so they opened up several additional dining areas. Even with more people getting food, the supply was very timely. The late-night congee service was also a thoughtful touch; Xiao Zhang and Xiao Hu, who were in charge, were diligent and quick, refilling items promptly. When they had a free moment, they even chatted with guests, which felt very warm and welcoming.
On the last day, before checking out, I noticed they were paving asphalt and filling potholes outside the entrance. This was tough for the several couples getting married that day – it was hard for cars to get in, and the newlyweds had to get out of their cars and enter the hotel while enduring the black smoke from the asphalt. I hope the hotel can consider local customs and feelings, and schedule such construction for a different time.
Before I left, I noticed a super-sized croissant on the in-room dining menu, which piqued my interest. It looked like sliced hua mo (steamed flower bun). I'll have to see the real thing next time, haha!

Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan Stay Experience: Luxury Service Where Details Make All the Difference (January 2, 2026)
Our trip concluding the 2026 New Year's holiday brought us to the Kempinski Hotel, located in the heart of Taiyuan. What started as a regular accommodation choice turned into a highlight of our journey, thanks to the attentive service and unexpected experiences we received throughout our stay.
A day before our arrival, I received a surprising call from the hotel's duty manager. He not only meticulously confirmed basic information like our arrival time and the number of guests but also proactively asked about any special requests or personal preferences, such as a preferred floor, room orientation, or whether we needed a baby crib or extra bedding. When I mentioned my preference for a room with an open view, the manager readily responded that he would do his best to arrange it. This thoughtful, proactive service made me feel warm and welcomed even before checking in.
Upon arriving at the hotel, the front desk quickly processed our check-in and informed me that I had been complimentary upgraded to a 50-square-meter Premium Deluxe View Room. This surprise was especially thoughtful. The moment I opened the door, my first impression was ”immaculately clean and bright”—the floor was spotless, the bedding was pristine and wrinkle-free, and the bathroom's sink, bathtub, and shower area were all dry and clean, with no standing water or unpleasant odors in the corners. Even the curtain tracks and table crevices were dust-free, perfectly meeting the hygiene standards of a five-star hotel. The room featured an elegant European-style decor, complemented by soft, warm lighting, creating a very cozy atmosphere. The oversized floor-to-ceiling window offered a panoramic view of Taiyuan's bustling city center, with towering buildings and busy streets spread out before us. Sunlight filled the room during the day, and at night, the neon lights twinkled, providing an absolutely superb visual experience. The room was fully equipped with amenities, including a mini-bar, smart TV, and branded toiletries. The soft, comfortable king-size bed also helped alleviate travel fatigue, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.
The breakfast experience the next morning was equally impressive. Elements Western Restaurant, located on the second floor, opened promptly at 6:30 AM. The dining environment was spacious and bright, and the tableware was neatly arranged. The breakfast selection was rich and diverse, catering to both Western and Chinese tastes. We found classic Western options like coffee, bread, bacon, and fried eggs, as well as local Shanxi specialties such as 'lao doufu' (aged tofu), 'yangza' (lamb offal soup), and handmade noodles. There were also Chinese delights like hot congee, steamed buns, and cold appetizers. The variety of fruits, desserts, and yogurt was also extensive. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious, satisfying different taste preferences. The staff were warm and attentive, proactively guiding us to our seats and promptly replenishing tableware and food, making for a comfortable and pleasant dining experience.
Throughout this stay, from the thoughtful pre-arrival communication and the pleasant surprise of a room upgrade to the clean and spacious living environment and the rich and diverse breakfast options, Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan demonstrated its ”home away from home” service philosophy through every detail. Whether for business or leisure travel, this is an excellent choice for accommodation in Taiyuan, and I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit.

Our group of four went to the Shanxi First Hot Spring Hotel, thinking it would be conveniently located within the Wang Family Courtyard. We ended up loving it! The hotel environment was superb! 👍🏻 Getting up early to climb the city wall and see the swirling mist was like stepping into a fairyland. The air was fresh, the hot spring water smooth, and the night view even more beautiful! Dinner was delicious, and breakfast was plentiful! Everyone is planning to come back! The manager, Xiao Wang, and my husband hit it off immediately, and he even gave us souvenir coins!

We stayed one night at this hotel and had a really lovely experience. The service was wonderful, everyone was super helpful and friendly. They picked us up and dropped us at the station which was such a nice touch and made everything very easy.
We had a very nice Chinese breakfast, they went through what was included. they gave us really good recommendations for things to see and where to eat in the ancient city. The hotel itself is very beautiful and quiet, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
Pingyao Ancient City is such a charming place, full of history, and it’s definitely worth staying overnight to see it all lit up in the evening.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and just want to say thank you to everyone for making our stay so lovely 😊

Always great, and the location is super convenient. It's close to all the attractions and restaurants. The restaurant on the second floor of the hotel is excellent; if there are only a few of you, you can even order half portions. The hotel breakfast, in particular, is fantastic – everything is top-notch.

The hotel was well located. The room exactly like it was described online. We reserved two rooms without windows for one day it was cost efficient! Unfortunately I could not reserve directly 4 breakfast online only two (one per room), we have to pay directly at breakfast for the two others one.
We stop at Datong to visited one of UNESCO site and see the all Datong city. We thought more foreigners will visit this beautiful small city. No one speaks English (and that’s ok) but for a 4 stars hotel the front desk lady looks a bit lost with the check in procedure for foreigners (and I work in a 5 stars hotel in beijing so I know the procedure as a French working in China). Also, the isolation is bad, the front desk already inform us upon check in but we did not thought we will heard even the other room bathrooms flush. Thank you for this night your hotel is beautiful
Hygiene: Excellent. All towels, bath towels, and bathrobes come in sealed bags, which made me feel very secure using them.
Facilities: Excellent. Although it's an older hotel, the showerheads show their age but are very well-maintained and work perfectly.
Environment: The location is great. The room card gives access to a small gate leading to Yingze Lake Park. It's a nice two to three-kilometer loop for a leisurely stroll.
Service: Excellent. They offered complimentary welcome fruits, and you just scan a QR code to request more amenities. There's also a delivery robot that brings food right to your door, all very convenient.
Suggestion: I hope they can switch from instant Nestlé coffee to pour-over coffee bags. Instant coffee feels too low-end and doesn't match the hotel's overall quality.

Newly opened hotel, there are mineral water stations on each floor to spare this is very good 👍. There is a laundry room and a very quiet spa on the second floor. The room is very spacious, the facilities and bathroom equipment are very new, the mattress is very comfortable, there are many foods around (recommended to the east noodles just a few steps away), cycling to the ancient city Wuding Gate is very close, go to the official scenic spot directly to the bus station ~ one kilometer ride for 6 minutes, Datong taxi is super cheap 7 yuan 3 kilometers. The front desk lady is very enthusiastic to recommend local food and travel guidelines, as well as holiday gifts, highly recommended cost-effective 👍

Jinci State Guest House, so beautiful, it is built in a park, said to cover more than 500 acres, I see more than, because it is connected to Jinci Museum and Jinci Park, there is a small door in the middle, the separation is really beautiful. The hotel is divided into ten floors. Building 5 is a Chinese restaurant in Weizhai. After entering, I went to the restaurant to have a meal. The taste was great and I gave a good review. The hotel's facilities are also very good, not very new, but very clean, belonging to the kind of wood sword, the natural color of iron, the clean and hygienic is particularly good. It is worth mentioning that the service is really standardized, the standard of a well-regulated five-star state guesthouse, everyone is of high quality, whether it is management staff, service staff, or garden gardeners, everyone is very enthusiastic to see the guests, great, this hotel is worth coming, If it is said that Taiyuan is not white, then I think that not staying at Jinci State Guest Hotel in Taiyuan is white.

I came to see the concert and I liked the fact that the Intercontinental Hotel could pick me up. The service and environment were very good. There were some minor incidents in the middle, but they were solved quickly. The only question was that I vomited for two consecutive days after breakfast. I want to ask if the soft-boiled fried eggs in the hotel breakfast were sterile eggs?

ZZhongxiabingbaoheI was a little disappointed when I first went there, but fortunately the problem was solved promptly and sincerely. However, I have to complain about the service. The waiter was a little inconsiderate. I saw me with a baby and luggage and no one helped. The shower room could not be used after the room was changed. The big shower head was broken and the small shower head was not easy to use. I booked the hotel for the breakfast. The highlight of this hotel is that the breakfast has many varieties and is very delicious.

IIrina UGreat authentic experience at this hotel in Pingyao. This was a perfect choice and I would definitely come back to same location.
You feel as part of ancient time: room decorations and also inner courtyard is wonderful.
Breakfast is mainly Chinese style but you can find good options even as a foreigner.
They also provide you with a nice business shuttle from the station which is more than welcome.

KKyaraMeru_If you're traveling to Linfen, Shanxi, I genuinely recommend Gu Cheng Da Yuan. It's not a hotel in the usual sense; it's more like staying in a living piece of history.
The moment you push open the heavy wooden door, the city's hustle and bustle are shut out. It's a genuine old house, not some 'faux-ancient' style.
🛏️ The stay was more comfortable than I expected. The room was spacious, antique in style, but not at all dark.
✔ Underfloor heating + central air conditioning throughout, so no fear of the cold in winter.
✔ Turn on the projector and binge-watching shows in bed at night was incredibly satisfying 📽️.
✔ Welcome fruit, tea, coffee, cocktails 🍹, and afternoon tea 🫖 were all prepared.
✔ 24-hour butler service, always responsive.
✔ Takeout can be delivered directly to the room – super friendly for lazy people.
🥟 The attention to detail was a real bonus. On the Winter Solstice, I actually got to eat dumplings handmade by the hotel, and I suddenly felt 'cared for'. The breakfast menu changes daily, so you don't get tired of it.
💆♀️ This was a truly relaxing, 'lie-flat' vacation. This time, I also tried the newly introduced sound bowl healing at the hotel, which made me so relaxed I didn't want to talk throughout the session. Even if I didn't leave all day, just soaking up the sun, reading, and daydreaming in the courtyard felt completely worth it.
📸 Every corner is picture-perfect. Carved window lattices, grey brick corridors – every spot is Instagrammable.
If you're looking for a trip where you don't have to rush your itinerary or exert yourself, but simply want to stay somewhere excellent and peaceful, then Gu Cheng Da Yuan is truly a place to just lie back and relax 🤎.

GGuest UserUser experience: I recently stayed in a hotel and was very satisfied with the overall experience. From check-in to check-out, the service staff were very enthusiastic and professional, making me feel at home.
Pros: The rooms in this hotel are spacious and bright, with complete facilities, especially the beds are very comfortable, allowing people to sleep well until dawn. The location of the hotel is also very convenient, close to the subway station, and it is very convenient to travel.
Overall evaluation: Overall, my experience with this hotel is very good, I will recommend this hotel to my friends and suggest that they also come to experience it.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is very clean and the room is fabulous. I was put on a smoking floor despite requesting non-smoking. The breakfast was not very good. After paying for breakfast and being told to enter the buffet, I was then immediately escorted out by another staff member who thought I hadn’t paid. After confirming I was allowed to re-enter. I was a little embarrassed. However, the staff were all friendly and patient with my poor language skills. The hotel is a little far away and there are not many shops or restaurants around. I would still stay here again. The room was quiet and bed was comfortable. I enjoyed my stay.
