I used to think Quanjishanhai only catered to high-end banquets with all private rooms, and that walk-ins couldn't get in without a reservation. I decided to ask just in case and found out that their first-floor dining hall is actually open to solo diners, couples, friends, and families!
No reservation needed, no need to gather a large group, and no minimum spend. The environment is clean and elegant. Sitting in air-conditioned comfort while waiting for your food is 100 times better than squeezing into noisy, trendy spots. You get authentic Bohai Bay seafood—this trip was totally worth it!
I've put together a list of my personally tested, can't-miss dishes. Order these and you can't go wrong:
✅ Golden millet braised sea cucumber
A must-eat healthy signature dish in Dalian! It uses live sea cucumber from Zhangzidao at 39°N. The meat is thick, plump, and tender, slow-cooked with premium japonica rice until thick and saucy. The aroma of the rice blends with the sweetness of the sea cucumber. It's warm, smooth, and not greasy—loved by both seniors and children. It's packed with nutrition.
✅ Steamed black rockfish
A signature fish loved by locals in Bohai Bay. The restaurant uses live fish, killed and steamed to order. This minimalist approach perfectly locks in the freshness of the meat. The steamed fish is so tender it falls off the bone with just a lip-smack. Every bite is full of the fresh, mellow taste of the ocean. There are very few bones, making it a delight to eat.
✅ Quanjishanhai braised double-fresh combo
Their hidden bestseller! The top layer is covered with fresh sea urchin meat that's incredibly sweet. The middle layer is tender tofu that melts in your mouth, and the bottom layer hides chewy, firm handmade shrimp paste. One bite gives you 3 layers of texture—it's so fresh it'll make you stomp your feet!
Also, don't miss the classic Dalian three-delicacy mung bean jelly, the fresh and sweet live sea urchin sashimi, and the live yellow croaker and sea urchin dumplings that burst with juice when you bite into them. Every dish is a winner. The cost per person is much more reasonable than randomly picking a seafood stall, and the taste is authentic!
