Photos of White Deer Grotto Academy

The White Deer Grotto Academy is seated in the southeast of Wulao Peak. It is a key culture relic protection unit in China. During Zhen Yuan Period in the Tang Dynasty, Li Bo, feudal provincial governor of Jiangzhou lived and studied here, and raised a white deer. He was then named as "Mr. White Deer." The White Deer Grotto Academy faces the south, and uses the stone-wood or wood-brick structure. The roof of the academy is of herringbone hard peak, reflecting the elegance and the spirit of not seeking for fame and wealth. The White Deer Grotto Academy is one the four major academies in China. Zhu Xi, a rationalistic Confucian philosopher, rebuilt the academy, and gave his lectures here.
