Mudu Shantang Street was formed much earlier than Suzhou Shantang Street, which dates back to the Spring and Autumn Period 2,500 years ago. At that time, Wu Wang built Gusutai for the construction of the Pavilion and the Palace of the Pavilion and the addition of Gusutai; a large number of labor and material resources were concentrated all year round, and many skilled craftsmen were gathered here; so many people settled on both sides of the mountain pond, forming the earliest residential settlement, and gradually developing into a market town. Therefore, Shantang Street has become the oldest street in the ancient town.
