We stayed one night at Kunming Huagu Hotel during a transit flight and were truly impressed. The hotel is very inexpensive compared to the quality and service provided, which is the best reason to choose this property.
We were a group of 16 people staying in 11 rooms, and everything was handled smoothly. In the evening, when we requested transportation from the hotel to Nanping Street, the staff quickly arranged two shuttle buses at a very reasonable cost, which was extremely helpful and well-organized. They also provide free Airport shuttle bus service which is very helpful too.
The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and perfect for a short stay. The service was prompt, polite, and professional throughout our stay.
The only minor drawback is that the hotel is a bit far from the main city and tourist attractions, but considering the price, cleanliness, and excellent service, this is easily acceptable—especially for transit or short stays.
Overall, great value for money and a reliable choice in Kunming. We would definitely consider staying here again. 👍

Fantastic stay! The room was clean, tidy, and odor-free, with soft and comfortable bedding. All facilities were complete and working perfectly. The staff were warm, attentive, and responsive, making both check-in and check-out very efficient. The location is convenient for getting around and dining. Excellent value for money, I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit.
This was my first time staying at a smart hotel, and it was quite an experience! The location is easy to find, right on Guangfu Road. As soon as you step out of the elevator, the entrance feels more like a home than a cold, impersonal big hotel. The front desk lady was incredibly enthusiastic and gave a very detailed introduction, which almost made me feel a bit embarrassed, haha.
The room itself was quite spacious. The lighting and curtains could all be controlled by a remote, giving it a nice techy feel. As soon as I walked in, I couldn't help but press all sorts of buttons – it's actually really convenient, especially when you're too lazy to get up and turn off the lights at night, it saves so much hassle! The bed was soft, and the pillows were good. The only thing was the air conditioning had a pretty strong draft; as someone who gets cold easily, I just barely managed to turn it down to a low setting. However, the soundproofing was excellent; it was really quiet outside.
The bathroom had a wet/dry separation, and they provided toiletries (not those super cheap tiny toothpastes and small towels). The Wi-Fi was strong, no buffering when watching shows.

The Four Points by Sheraton Kunming City Center is actually brand new, having just opened in May 2025. However, the building itself has a history, as it was previously the New Era Hotel, a landmark in downtown Kunming. After facing business difficulties and closing down, it was taken over and divided between Atour and Four Points by Sheraton.
Four Points by Sheraton occupies the higher floors, with Atour taking the lower ones. Its location is truly in the heart of the city, bustling and vibrant, much like Beijing Road in Guangzhou. Large shopping malls like Kunming Department Store and Wangfujing are all nearby. The entire street is a lively pedestrian zone, making shopping and dining incredibly convenient. You'll spot it easily when you enter from Nantong Street.
Upon entering, the reception counter is to your right, and a spacious lobby lounge with sofas is to your left. It's a great spot to wait if, for example, your car hasn't arrived yet.
After checking in, taking the elevator to the eighth floor brings you to the amenity level. This includes a well-equipped gym, a bar, and the breakfast area. The bar opens to the public in the evenings, with mostly sofa seating that's nicely partitioned for privacy and comfort.
The drinks are also reasonably priced; a cocktail costs just 58 yuan. That evening, I had a whiskey sour, and for 58 yuan, it was perfectly acceptable. It's a good complementary feature for a hotel bar.
Moving on to the room, you'll find complimentary welcome fruit on the table. To the left of the entrance is the bathroom, complete with a toilet and shower. The room itself is quite spacious with a long layout and a single king-size bed. At the far end, there's a very comfortable armchair with a high back, not a sofa, where you can sit and overlook Nanping Plaza, taking in the entire Kunming city center. Next to it is a desk directly facing the window, perfect for gazing out when you need a break.
This entire hotel is a renovated property, with comprehensive and well-appointed public facilities, contributing to a more comfortable stay.
When I booked my room on Ctrip, I noticed it was listed as a five-star hotel. However, in my understanding, a hotel without a swimming pool is typically considered four-star. Still, you can usually book a room here for around 400-500 yuan.
Overall, the hotel's location is truly excellent. The advantage of being downtown is convenience for everything, but the biggest drawback is potential traffic congestion. For tourists, however, this place is unbeatable. The pedestrian street right below offers evening strolls, snacks, and easy access to various attractions.

Tonight, I made a last-minute check-in at the 'Cuihu Hotel', designed by I.M. Pei. It was unplanned, but a delightful surprise.
In my opinion, a hotel isn't a museum; its 'sense of history' should be elegant, not heavy, and its 'vintage feel' should be classic, not dated. Before arriving, I was very worried this 69-year-old hotel would feel stuffy and decayed. To my surprise, Cuihu Hotel strikes the perfect balance and shows great wisdom. For example, the public area ceilings are adorned with 24K gold leaf, and the murals feature maple wood relief carvings with gold accents – aesthetics that are certainly a product of their time [tears of joy emoji]. However, they've now added many art pieces to temper this 'bling' and enhance the elegance and scholarly vibe. Even the subtle classical jazz music and the light, delicate fragrance filling the air inject a fresh, youthful spirit into the overall ambiance. Yet, the common issues of older hotels persist: outdated facilities, bathtub design, and those unsightly large pillars… This leaves me feeling conflicted, both loving and hating it, and hesitant about whether I'd stay here again (especially with kids).
What truly stood out was the check-in experience: the front desk gifted us fresh roses, a succulent potted plant, and a postcard as souvenirs. In the room, there was a handwritten card, red-billed gull biscuits, Yunnan small-bean coffee powder with a Moka pot. They even pre-arranged a bedtime dessert and a crib bumper. For welcome fruits, the housekeeping auntie knocked on our door with a basket, letting us choose our own! 😄 These interactions significantly elevated the stay, even adding a wonderful touch to my overall impression of this Yunnan trip.
In summary, it has history but struggles with modernity; thankfully, the details, service, and quality are all excellent 👍.
P.S. The room upgrade was successful, and my 'begging' for it went very smoothly.

During our stay, the elevator was under maintenance and the building has quite a number of floors, so waiting time could be a little longer than usual. That said, the front desk staff were very supportive and polite. They helped us receive multiple parcels and even delivered our ******* orders directly to the room. As a gesture of apology, they also gifted us a set of tea cups, which we appreciated.
The hotel is located in the city centre, so it can be a bit noisy if the windows are left open. Once the windows are closed, however, it’s perfectly fine.
For the family room, there are two double beds. If there are three adults, one person will need to sleep on the sofa.
Overall, a comfortable stay with thoughtful service, especially from the front desk team:)

Highly recommend as This hotel has the best service! Everyone is so nice and goes the extra mile to help. Shoutout to Afei who gave us useful advice and helped to arrange transportation for us to travel from dali to here and then on to shangrila. We were served welcome drinks and snacks and a great hot breakfast. So many convenience stores nearby and 5-8mins walking for halal food options. Hotel has a cafe in the lobby where you can get delicious coffee. We loved our stay and the garden was beautiful. Free usage of their washer dryer too which helped greatly. Hotel can arrange trips to JDSM for you which is highly recommended. Afei was always available on wechat to help us navigate Lijiang as foreigners! Thank you so much for everything and we will be back again soon!
The hotel is clean and tidy, with plenty of sunshine making it warm. Even with the air conditioning on at night, it doesn't get cold. The heated toilet seat is very comfortable. The mattress is also very comfortable. The breakfast rice noodle set is delicious, and they offer afternoon tea. In the evenings, there's even butter tea, which is a thoughtful touch. The large balcony on the 5th floor offers an excellent view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It's also very close to Lijiang Old Town, within walking distance. There are two lovely dogs at the hotel, especially the Alaskan Malamute, 'Xiao Shi Yi,' who is very smart and lively. All the hotel staff are wonderful; they even gave us delicious apples on Christmas Eve. I will definitely choose to stay here again next time.
The biggest feeling is that all the waiters in the hotel are warm and thoughtful. We have stayed in many parent-child hotels with our children, and the waiter training of this hotel is really great! The room is clean and tidy, the layout is warm and spacious, the hotel is in a good location and very quiet.
Especially the front desk Minnie George is also very enthusiastic, and she took the initiative to add WeChat. If you have any needs during the three-day stay, you can send her WeChat to help solve them in time.
There is also a male lifeguard with braids by the swimming pool. The child's swimming ring fell in the pool. He collected it specially the next day. My mother insisted that I write down to thank him.
The buffet dinner is also great. After the meal, I took the children to DIY food. I got more than one comfortable and pleasant stay experience. Our whole family had a lot of fun staying during the May Day holiday.

I genuinely recommend Little Tusi Homestay. I'd say it meets four-star hotel standards. The owner personally picked us up at the station in the evening and even brewed us a delicious pot of butter tea upon arrival, along with some fruit and snacks. The Tibetan-style decor is very tasteful and refined. We stayed for three nights, and the owner upgraded our room. Today we're leaving, and the owner will even drop us off at the station. Shangri-La, the sun and moon in my heart – this trip was truly worth it!

MM453151****This stay was truly a great experience that far exceeded expectations. The hotel enjoys a unique geographical location and extremely convenient transportation. As soon as you step into the lobby, the elegant atmosphere and the enthusiastic attitude of the staff will make you feel comfortable and at ease as if you were at home.
The room is not only spacious and bright, but also spotlessly clean. The bed is soft and comfortable, as if it can dispel all the fatigue of the journey. The room is fully equipped with all necessary facilities, the air conditioning has excellent cooling and heating effects, and the bathroom equipment is faultless and very smooth to use.
The hotel's dining is second to none. The variety of dishes is dazzling and the taste is outstanding. There are many types of breakfast to meet different tastes. The hotel's soundproofing is excellent, and the night is so quiet that people can quickly fall into a sweet dream. The attitude of Feixiu at the front desk was always friendly and friendly. No matter what your needs were, they responded quickly and solved them efficiently. In general, this hotel is very cost-effective and I sincerely recommend it to all travelers.

MM470007****Overall, it's a great choice, the kind that you can't go wrong with. I have to praise the bed and pillows, they were really comfortable! The shower had strong, hot water, and the wet/dry separation in the shower stall was excellent, so the bathroom didn't get all wet. When I called the front desk with a request, they resolved it quickly. The pool fountain looked quite atmospheric in the evening. It might get a bit chilly at night, so make sure to wrap yourself in a towel after getting out of the water. Choosing this place for the last two days was absolutely the right decision; no need to wake up early for the flight, and I still got to enjoy a perfect vacation vibe. Highly recommend it to those who don't want any hassle.

GGuest Userthe best thing about yundu is the dog that greets you as you enter. it is a ball of cloud with so much energy and playfulness. communicating with them was fairly okay--but perhaps some translation got misinterpreted, which resulted into miscommunication. but issues were resolved quickly, and in the end, we were quite pleased with their service. location wise is great. it is walking distance to the ancient town through the new road. unfortunately, my mother couldn't walk far so we didn't manage to explore this route. cleanliness was generally good with some spots that needed more attention. there were bird feathers and a couple of flies in the room when we checked in but we managed to take care of that ourselves. the tea set was lovely and delicious. breakfast was great. we love simple chinese breakfast of mi xian and some side dishes. the soy milk was also delicious. restaurant area is lovely with a view looking out to a field of tall grass. gym and laundry area were a bit weird and neglected--they probably should look after that area better. also we had to do our own laundry, which was rather strange for a boutique hotel. we got our laundries taken care of by other hotels and this was the only one where we had to do our own. the photo shoot area was nice though and they also had great selection of clothes that we could borrow. we had lots of fun doing our own photo shoot there.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is in a great location, about a ten-minute walk from Cuihu Lake and also a ten-minute walk from Kunming Old Street, though in a different direction. There are many local eateries nearby, and shared electric bikes are very convenient. The room was very clean, no mosquitoes, and the hotel service was excellent. It was also quiet at night, so I slept well.
GGuest UserStaying at the Yifei Hotel on this trip was truly a pleasant surprise! Upon entering the hotel, the ambiance was stunning, with a simple yet stylish decor. The lobby was spacious, bright, and warmly decorated, instantly relaxing. The room was spotlessly clean, with new amenities, comfortable bedding, and convenient smart devices. The view from the window was also beautiful, with a wide, relaxing vista.
The service was impeccable. From the moment we checked in, the front desk staff was warm and attentive, answering every question and offering helpful recommendations for nearby attractions and restaurants. During our stay, any items we needed were promptly delivered to our room, a highly responsive experience. The breakfast was plentiful, the staff promptly cleared the table, and the dining environment was comfortable. I highly recommend the Yifei Hotel and will definitely stay there again!

OOlive GohWhen I started planning our itinerary for our 15 day Yunnan holiday, I plotted out our path to go all the way up to Shangri-la, back down to Kunming and then to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land. Then I chanced upon a video of Aini Garden and fell in love! The only reason we came to Pu'er was to get to Aini. This was the first place I booked, and I really took a chance because it has a no cancellation policy and I really had to stick to the date once it was made.
The initial pre-arrival experience was less than pleasant. I didn't know how we were going to get to the manor and my WeChat messages went unanswered. The hotel we stayed at in Pu'er finally got in touch with someone and got them to message me. I asked how we could get there and the answer was a curt ”take a taxi or charter a car”. No pleasantries of ”we look forward to seeing you” or offering to arrange a car.
When we arrived, no one was at reception and no one came out. Our driver was so perplexed he wondered if we were in the right place and if the place was open. Finally a young girl came out and registered us in. There was an air of aloofness from everyone else. However, once we were checked in, things warmed up quickly. We were offered coffee and freshly cut papaya and had a nice introduction chat with the lady staff.
The bedroom and bathroom is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We would have enjoyed sitting on the balcony if the chairs were more comfortable. I love the floor to ceiling glass windows but the panel above the door should also be glass (it is just netting) so traffic sounds from the road actually comes through at night. I actually wanted to book the cottage in the hills but opted for the standard room in the main house because I was worried it would be cold. Big regret as it is actually magnificently located with stunning views. However take note that you will need to call for a buggy ride or make a 1km hike every time you want to eat or get to the main house. If you are self driving, no issues as you can park right next to the cottage. Anyway it's a small price to pay for an unlimited view of the milky way and seclusion.
This is as close to a Ryokan experience as you can get in China, minus the hot springs. 3 days 2 nights of blissful, carefree living is not quite enough. They make sure they feed you well, with the freshest produce available for hotpot dinner and home-cooked Yunnanese dishes for lunch. There are so many activities organised, from taking you up the mountain for a glimpse of sunrise (with mountain goats for company ❤️) to coffee plantation education tour to horseback riding along the mountain ridges (the view is spectacular!) to scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits to drinking, dancing and singing around the campfire! So much to do, so little time!
One area of improvement I personally would like to see is the coffee serving. They tend to be quite snobbish about how their coffee is taken. Neat, with nothing else. Asking for sugar or milk feels nearly scorned upon. Coffee is a versatile drink and can be savoured in a huge variety of ways. How else is Starbucks so successful? I felt kind of stifled and deprived because I love a good latte and had looked forward to enjoying an unlimited indulgence of coffee throughout our stay.
Anyhow, I love the ecotourism efforts here. It feels natural and unpretentious. I love the people and the camaraderie they cultivate. I especially enjoyed talking to their consultant 敬梅, a beautiful lady with extensive knowledge in Yunnan culture and ecological progress. Also thank you to 徐芳 for arranging transport back to town and giving helpful recommendations. We hope to return again.
__WeChat247452****Environment: To avoid ruining our trip with a bad hotel experience, we chose to stay at Banyan Tree. The hotel environment is incredibly beautiful and truly feels like a resort. If you're not in a hurry, spending a whole day here leisurely is a wonderful idea. A big thank you to the front desk for arranging a room with an amazing view for me. When you open the window, you're greeted by Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – it's stunning! Waking up in the morning and seeing the 'Golden Mountain in the Sunlight' (日照金山) right from bed was incredibly satisfying. The hotel's public areas are also beautiful and comfortable. Highly recommend staying here~
Service: All the staff were friendly and very proactive in offering help. We even received small gifts upon check-in, a little turtle and a Dongba ornament, which was a pleasant surprise. Then, because Lijiang is so dry, I asked our butler, Elin, for a bit more water, and to my surprise, she left an extra 5 bottles – very nice~! Elin's service was also excellent; she struck me as a very clever person. Thumbs up! 🫰🏻
Hygiene: Nothing to complain about, hygiene gets full marks.
Facilities: The hotel offers a variety of activities, so you won't get bored. However, I do want to mention that the breakfast menu doesn't accurately list allergens. Some items contain dairy, but this isn't noted on the labels; I had to confirm with staff. I hope this can be improved.
PpinkrippleThere is free pick-up from the airport, and there is a shuttle bus for visiting Gaozhuang. It is very convenient and the service is very good. There is also a swimming pool on the roof, and the environment is very good, especially the night view. The breakfast is generally good, with quite a lot of variety. I really like their rice noodles. The laundry room is a bit run down, so if there's nothing special about it, try not to use it.

YYuki Serene AngI had an extremely enjoyable stay at Mr Ma’s accommodation. From the moment we arrived, he greeted us with genuine warmth and sincere hospitality. Throughout our stay, he assisted us with every need and often went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable. We loved our time here so much that we extended our stay to a total of six nights!
We were deeply touched by his generosity and the thoughtfulness he showed every single day. Each morning, he checked in on us, asked if we had slept well, and made sure we had everything we needed. This is a family-run accommodation, and every member of the Ma family was friendly, warm, and welcoming. Mr Ma even took special care to accommodate my daughter’s cat allergy by keeping their cats away from the common areas — a gesture we truly appreciated.
One of the highlights of our stay was the meaningful conversations we shared with the family. We exchanged stories about our respective countries, shared insights about our cultures, and learned so much from one another. These heartfelt chats made our stay feel even more personal, and we genuinely enjoyed connecting on a deeper level beyond the usual host–guest interactions.
The room facilities were excellent — warm blankets, electric heating pads, newly installed air-conditioners, towels, a hair dryer, and a kettle. And every morning, we were greeted with a comforting bowl of noodles lovingly prepared by Mrs Ma — such a heartwarming way to start the day.
The location is ideal as well: close to the bustling streets and ancient town, with the mountains and lake just nearby. We enjoyed sitting on the top-floor balcony in the cool, crisp morning air, taking in the peaceful mountain views. Mrs Ma also shared wonderful food recommendations, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
During our stay, we met international travellers from France, and the Ma family communicated effortlessly using translation apps. It’s clear they have plenty of experience hosting guests from around the world. We also made a short trip to Lijiang, arranged through Mr Ma’s recommendation — a comfortable 9-seater car that picked us up directly from the accommodation and dropped us off at our next destination.
I highly, highly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting the area. I am deeply grateful for the kindness and warmth shown to us throughout our stay — right up until the moment we left, when Mr Ma personally helped us with our luggage.
Before you leave, be sure to take a photo with the family, and don’t miss the chance to chat with Mr Ma’s son, who is very eager to practise English with travellers.
Wishing this humble, hardworking, and generous family all the very best. Thank you for making our stay so memorable — we are truly happy to have formed this friendship. 🌟
UUci UnThanks to my friends for recommending this B&B in Yunnan; it's hands down the best I've ever stayed at in mainland China.
It boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning reservoir lake views and the beautiful 'golden mountain in the sun' scenery. I was immediately awestruck by the view the moment I walked in.
The decor is incredibly relaxing, simple, clean, and yet thoughtfully detailed.
Breakfast and afternoon tea were both delicious.
The coffee was also well-prepared.
The staff were friendly and lovely.
And the bathtub positioned by the glass window, where you can soak in hot water while gazing at the snowy mountain and lake views—what more could you ask for?
