I stayed at 3 hotels all near Flagstaff stations for this trip, just to try something new and compare. Excellent location and the Flagstaff garden is at the opposite. The Pegasus has a real kitchen and utensils since it's an apartment hotel. No view at all but it's ok for a night's stay. The bed is so soft but so as the Radisson and the Jazz hotel so I guess it's the standard?.. Staffs had reasonable service, but I overheard the guest in front of me checked out 30mins later than he should and the staff were not happy about it at all, like teacher talking to a misbehaved student. Overall it's price for money.

My family and I enjoyed our recent stay at Citadines on Burke Melbourne. The standout positives were: 1. Staff Service: Check-in was excellent. The staff were warm, professional, and very helpful, setting a welcoming tone immediately. 2. Room Size: Plenty of room for luggage and for everyone to move around without feeling cramped. 3. Bathroom Amenities: The provided toiletries were nice quality and appreciated. Items for improvements: The spaciousness makes this hotel ideal for families. However, to make them truly perfect for families like ours, I'd suggest the management consider offering some room options with two queen-size beds to enhance comfort and sleep quality for parents and children sharing the room. Despite this suggestion, we had a very comfortable and pleasant stay thanks to the great service, ample space, and good facilities. We would definitely consider staying again.

The hotel is located in the city center, making it convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. The buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of options, including Chinese-style snacks and porridge, making it quite suitable for Chinese people.

Overall I had a great stay! My room was pretty cozy and the location was conveniently close to trams and Souther Cross Station. Amenities in the room were excellent (kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, heater, ironing board). Maybe bring your own slippers in winter as the tiled floor was very cold in the morning. Quite a few obvious wear and tear but overall still decently clean. The only thing that bothered me was one of the kitchen utensils was still dirty. If you are a light sleeper you would need earplugs as it’s quite noisy from the trains and trams passing by. Personally i enjoyed the background noise. I enjoyed my night ins in the room with access to the TV and to be able to cook / heat up food. Staff at the reception were all very lovely and welcoming. I would stay here again :)

From the moment the duty manager totally ignored my requests even though I had emails and receipts to back up claims he blatantly ignored me and even dismissed me with an atrocious contempt. I asked him and the receptionist about these issues and was told take it or leave it. Absolutely appalled by this. Contacted duty manager next day and she was more responsive yet only said the previous manager had personal problems that day ? I asked about why my request were at least looked at and again provided receipts and emails that there was an mis communication between reservations and reception.  No alternative but to stay although they did manage to move to another room. Although moved the noise levels from the supply rooms were unbearable and late into the night they were worse. I can’t say that this time it was a good stay but think hard before going there. Because issues arise and not dealt with at all.  When I asked for the persons name was told no. Even though they have badges.  Interesting.

I'll start with the service, as I felt deeply disappointed and unfairly treated during check-in. It was our birthday on August 20th when we arrived. After mentioning this to the receptionist, not only did we not receive even a simple 'Happy Birthday,' but we were also told to buy our own cake from a shop as the hotel offered no special services or gestures. This level of service is utterly inconsistent with what one would expect from a Crown Hotel and left us extremely disappointed! We provided feedback to the front desk during check-out, and while they offered an apology and champagne, it was too little, too late. A birthday only comes once a year, and we were truly let down. **Facilities:** The hotel feels very new overall. The shower had a handheld showerhead, which is very family-friendly, especially for those with young children (many hotels in Australia don't have these...). The bedding was very comfortable. Disposable toiletries, drinking water, and slippers were provided – a nice touch, as we usually bring our own since many Australian hotels don't offer them. **Cleanliness:** The room was spotless. The bathtub was clean enough for kids to bathe in, which gave us peace of mind. **Location:** The hotel's location is excellent, with easy access to dining and transportation. It's located next to a casino, so there's a lot of foot traffic. However, room access requires a key card, so we felt secure.

This accommodation isn’t exactly a hotel. The building is shared by other tenants. We were upgraded to a 2 bedded apartment on the 36th floor upon check-in, a newly acquired unit by hotel chain that was recently renovated. As we were the first guests to the unit, we felt like guinea pigs test driving the unit. Unfortunately, we encountered some unpleasant incidents. First, my elderly dad got a small gash from the floating kitchen cabinet shortly settling in (as start of cabinet is just after the entrance). A bumper guard at the corner of the cabinet would have prevented this accident. Second, one afternoon when we got back from to find our unit door ajar. Thankfully our belongings were still intact. Third, housekeeping generally poor. No one cleaned the bathroom throughout our 8 days stay and shower trap was choked. Fourth, one of the room’s curtain couldn’t be drawn entirely so we left it closed throughout. However, one day we came back unit to find the room curtain dislodged after house keeping. Fifth, there were no hangers in the wardrobe at all. Only got them 3 days later after haggling with the reception. Lastly, it was a bummer not being able to access Netflix as the connection was down. Unpleasant encounters aside, the unit has a beautiful view and is well contained with fridge, washing/dryer machine, dishwashing machine and cooking utensils. Good for long stay. Its location is near South Melbourne Market and accessible by foot to flinders station and the city. Woolsworth supermarket is just a stone throw away + eateries around the vicinity. On some days you can spot air balloons flying past.

Got to the hotel early and our room was not available. Sat in the check in area for an hour because we were too tired frombour red eye flight. And the kind staff offered us a free upgrade so we can check into our room earlier. We managed to catch some sleep before heading out. Hotel was clean and location was excellent. The room was spacious, but the arrangement was a bit weird as you can see from the location of the sink. Water pressure was low and a full body mirror would be nice. Overall, good hotel and thank you to the staff who let us check in early.

Stayed at Ibis Kingsgate for two weeks as I was here to celebrate my birthday. It is my second time staying here; I also came here last year for two weeks and for my birthday! The hotel is located within a good and safe area - which is great for solo travellers such as myself. I’ve seen families at this hotel too. Ibis Kingsgate is within the free tram zone (you can take the 86 or 96), with access to many amenities nearby such as Coles, Woolies, Southern Cross Station (great for when you have to catch the SkyBus), My Chemist, and a range of food and cafe options. Located at the cross junction of King and Bourke St, the hotel is also walking distance to other popular streets such Elizabeth, Queen, Williams, Colins, Lonsdale, La Trobe, and more! Flinders is nearby too, and you can just cut across to Southbank as well! In fact, you can even walk to Lygon, Docklands or even as far as Collingwood, which I did! If walking is not your thing, there are also many options for trams, trains, and buses near this hotel. Room is adequate and clean, with a nice range of television channels. There’s a fridge, kettle and tea/coffee which is occasionally refilled. Bathroom is good too; sufficient and spacious enough, and for some - there’s even a window in the bathroom! The hotel staff are nice and it’s always great to be back. Thank you for the room upgrade, it made my trip even more special. I returned the gesture by keeping the room as clean and tidy as possible. ;p Until next time! See ya later!

Final Melbourne Hotels Booking Tips

  • Melbourne’s hotel prices surge—and rooms sell out—during the Australian Open (January), F1 Grand Prix (March), and AFL Finals (September), so reserve ahead to avoid 200% rate hikes or last-minute scrambles near the MCG.
  • Unlike Tokyo’s midnight transport cutoff, Melbourne’s trams run until 1 AM on weekends; stay near Flinders Street Station, Southbank, or within the Free Tram Zone to explore bars and galleries without expensive taxi returns.
  • Skip pricey CBD towers—base yourself in Docklands for apartment-style rooms and free trams to Southern Cross Station (SkyBus to airport), or choose South Yarra for garden strolls and a 9-minute train to Flinders Street’s laneways.

XXiaojiaCame here as a ‘staycation’ for one night to celebrate my partners birthday. Service was good, the reception team made us feel so welcomed. Room was clean and the view of the river and bay was superior, as the name of this room type described. 10/10 👍🏼 we also used the gym which had a nice view too!

DDeklazThe hotel is located at the downtown free tram zone, next to a large train station, where there are many food stores and supermarkets. It is also next to the express skybus to airport. Location wise, it is a perfect choice. However, the hotel seems to be renovated from a historical building. Though it is well-tasty renovated, it is partially renewed only. The door to toilet is too old and literally creaky when open. The wall in toilet is built by plasterboard with poor sound proof. You can hear sounds from next door in the toilet. Service by the staff could be improved too. Btw, maybe staying at downtown Melbourne may not be a good choice. The hotel is not far away from police headquarters. I heard loud siren more than once every night during my stay. The street has a number of homeless day and night.

GgowanchaidotcomWe stayed altogether three nights here. The hotel was converted from a historical building dated back to 1890s . We enjoyed the stay-included breakfast at Alluvial restaurant. It got charming vibe. the King Classic room we stayed is spacious consider it is in zone 1 of Melbourne. The hotel is in walking distance to many of the Melbourne city attractions we are even able to take some rest in the room in our planned city walking trip in the middle of a very hot summer sunny day. The bathroom provides Byredo toiletries which we like. However, the decor is a bit dated and need refreshing and we are not happy with the service level of the staff. For example, the phone handfree function is not working properly; the safe is according to the hotel ”in the process of replacement” and not working either; the call to ”Instant Service” for help often took more than 5-seconds ring especially during the night time. There is even a false fire alert during one of the morning time of our stay. I doubt it is a standard of Intercontinental hotel or a 5-star rated hotel. For whom consider staying at this room type of this hotel, please note the windows is fixed and facing the hallway so the room has 1. no natural sunlight 2. no fresh air and 3. needs closing the curtains all the time if you prefer privacy. Another point worth noting is the bathroom floor is very slippery after bath, I would call it a death trap if you wear the one-off slippers that is provided in the room as you can easily get a slip and fall on the bathroom floor even for a grown adult.

YYew Siong TanNovotel Melbourne on Collins was a fantastic base for our family trip! The location truly is perfect – having multiple free city tram stops within 100 meters made exploring effortless. We easily walked to major spots like Flinders Street Station and the stunning State Library Victoria. Food options were plentiful nearby, making ”food hunting” a breeze. A major plus for us was the onsite parking. Renting a car was stress-free knowing we had a guaranteed, convenient spot each night (parking fee applicable, refer to hotel front desk). The room was impressively spacious, comfortably accommodating our family of two adults and a kid. Having two queen-size beds was ideal – everyone had plenty of room to sleep well. **Things that could elevate the experience further:** 1. Breakfast Variety: While the breakfast was good, a wider selection of hot and cold options would be appreciated, especially for a longer stay. 2. TV Upgrade: The current TV channel is very limited. Upgrading to Smart TVs with access to streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube would be a huge improvement for in-room entertainment, especially for families with young kids / toddler. 3. Shaving Kit Quality:The provided shaving kit's ”cream” (which was a soap) and blade weren't great. Offering a slightly higher quality kit with proper shaving cream would be a noticeable touch. **Overall:** We had a very comfortable and convenient stay thanks to the unbeatable location, easy parking, and spacious family room. Addressing the breakfast variety, TV upgrade, and shaving kit quality would easily push this towards a perfect 5-star experience. Highly recommended, especially for families needing space and city access.
