"We were there in February, it was minus outside, but the room had a heater and air conditioning. Not frozen. The hotels have three onsens, one shared for men, one for women and one private. They also give you the key to 9 public onsens in the village. The hostess can pick you up or take you to the nearest station, she also took us to dinner and to Monkey Park. Breakfast is traditional. And in general, the hotel is traditional Japanese, I advise anyone who is interested in staying in a traditional hotel. But keep in mind that you need to sleep on the tatama and wear slippers, they are not allowed in the shower, and you also need to wash in the onsen."

"Very nice place and wonderful service. Due to heavy snowing, we were late but they waited for us patiently. We supposed missed the dinner time but they were very friendly and considerate and everything were well prepared when we arrived under heavy snow with an empty stomach. They concered our safety over all other issues and gave us a very warmly welcome. The private onsen is free of charge and they offered the most juicy apples in the world for all you can eat!! A warmly and friendly hotel, definitely worth to visit especially if you are planning to visit the snow monkey. (5 mins car, 20 mins walk)"

"It satisfied all my fantasies about Japanese hot spring hotels. Facilities: We booked an ordinary Japanese-style room with a bathroom, but there was actually a window, but the view was different. The room was considered large in Japan, but the door was a bit small, so there was no place to spread out the suitcase. Environment: When I went there, the male and female hot spring baths had been changed, so I only experienced one. There was a large bath, a small bath, and an open-air bath, but the most comfortable one was the indoor bath, with the most suitable water temperature. There is no private bath that can be reserved, but it is better to go later. If you are lucky, you can get a private bath experience. Service: Very good. The hotel has a car to connect Yudanaka Station to the hotel, but it will be after 2 pm. There is also a route to the Snow Monkey Park, but there is no route back from the park. The hotel is very good. When we just arrived at the hotel, we found that our bag was left at the station. The staff pulled me back to the station to get the bag. I was the only one in the car, and it was a complete chartered car experience. Breakfast and dinner were very rich, and it can be seen that they were made with care, but I don’t like to eat raw food, so I just experienced it and didn’t taste anything different. There was also beef on the day I ate there, and there were many dishes, so it doesn't matter if you don't eat any of them. If you have enough budget, I still recommend trying it! ! ! You can feel the traditional Japanese dining"

"Our family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado. Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture. If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!"

"When I arrived at Yudanaka Station, I tried to call on my cell phone, but the phone didn't work, so I was able to request a shuttle service with the help of the station staff. It didn't take long for the staff to come and we were able to move quickly and comfortably. From the time I arrived, they came out to the door and greeted me kindly, and they kindly explained the nearby hot spring tour and the use of the ryokan facilities. We were a family of four (2 adults, 2 children), but the accommodation was not small. Dinner on the day of check-in and breakfast the next day were provided, and the meals were delicious, and the staff who served the food were also very kind. When I returned to the room after dinner, a cozy blanket was set up, so I could rest comfortably. When I checked out the next day, I was able to go to the monkey park through the shuttle service. Overall, all the staff were very kind, so I felt good. The facilities were clean, and there were many things to see around, so I definitely want to go again next time. I highly recommend it to others."

"I saw many Japanese elderly couples, girlfriends, and many students coming here to play. The hotel is very old, the air conditioner squeaks, there are some mosquitoes, and the refrigerator is sometimes good and sometimes bad. It was normal on the first day, but on the second day, all the fruits we bought were frozen into hard ice. But the hygiene is OK. You can see that they are trying their best to maintain it. In addition to the public hot springs, there are two private hot springs, Xing and Yue, which can be reserved by guests. There is free oden in the rest area every afternoon, which is very heartwarming. The breakfast is also good and very rich. In addition, Nagano and Shijiazhuang are friendly cities. Table tennis is very popular here, and there are table tennis balls in the lounge. The hotel is very close to Yudanaka Station, a two-minute walk, and is generally recommended."

AamychowkwLove this ryokan! The service was just amazing! We arrived the ryokan feeling cold and asked where we could get some heat pads and was told that since the ryokan provides free shuttle to train station, they could send us to convenient store. And before it, the staff came back with some mini heat pads for us to use for the meanwhile. There was also paid shuttle to snow monkey park (500 yen per pax one way) that you can arrange with them. We had a tatami room, it was spacious and the staff came to the room to do the check in and served tea and welcome snack to us. The ryokan guests are entitled to go to nine onsens around the area for free. The ryokan provides yukatas and all necessities for it. The meals were sumptuous and super yummy. Overall, a fantastic ryokan experience for us!

GGuest UserI had an excellent experience at Amagawaso. When I arrived, I was greeted with sencha, warm steamed buns, and the sign-up sheet for the private onsen. Staying at Amagawaso felt cozy and familiar, like visiting family. The inn has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Even had some sakura right outside my bedroom window. The owners are so warm and kind. They made me feel right at home. Amagawaso is just a short walk from the public baths throughout Shibu Onsen and the local bus stops which take you up to Snow Monkey Park. I would certainly stay here again.

BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

GGuest UserWonderful hotel to experience amazing Japanese hospitality. Our family of 4 (2 adults 2 teenagers) stayed in a Japanese style Family room. Each night futon beds were made and in the mornings packed away by staff. The room size was comfortable and has a great view of the ski slopes. I have included a picture of the view from our room with the review. Our stay included delicious buffet breakfast and Japanese dinner. Staff were very helpful and accommodating, enhancing our stay experience. In terms of location, it is about a 15-20 mins walk to the ski fields, through the old town. Nice walk and very manageable. We’ll definitely love to stay again the next time we get to visit beautiful Nozawa Onsen.

AAnonymous UserIt's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up. The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range. We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect. We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night. There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

NNiniIt was a very interesting experience. There was no private bathroom, but the location was very good. The hostel provided transportation to the station and to watch the wild monkeys soak in the hot springs. If you take the bus yourself, it is also 100 meters away from the bus station. It is in the core area of the hot spring street, but it is not very convenient to eat around it. After all, it is too remote. If you like to experience the traditional Japanese hot spring street, it is highly recommended to experience it once. Thanks to the owner and the staff for their friendly reception.

WWuyayizhiThe hotel's pick-up service at Yudanaka Station gave a very good first impression. Although the facilities are a bit old, the service is very warm, the room is very large, and there is a private hot spring. Every morning, the hotel also picks up guests to the Snow Monkey Park for free. However, there is a small flaw in the service I personally encountered. When I checked in, the hotel informed me that the return time from the Snow Monkey Park was 12 noon, just in time for the 12:30 bus back to Nagano, but in fact it became 12:30 the next day. I had to take the next bus back to Nagano. Because there were fewer buses, it was about an hour and a half late.

GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!

EElinaNikIt was brilliant! It is the same with pictures on this site. They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life. I had my own reserved table for breakfast. ❗❗❗The hotel has its own bus with driver, which took me to the Snow Monkey Park and to the station for free! Actually staff was so polite! It is seems like you are someone important. Actually the only one minus that you can't go to all 9 Shibu Onsen's baths, but just to 9th bath only. But the hotel has its own bath even open-air. It was really nice and comfortable accommodation.

TTravelKingOwner is a bit Eccentric and cares more about his daytime dramas. Also has a Dalmatian which he keeps chained in the corner of the living room. Dog is always barking and can be quite a nuisance at times. Also i think the dog urinated as the owner keeps him chained inside all the time. So if you don’t mind the heavy smell of a dog and a unfriendly owner, then look elsewhere. Positives are the onsen is very hot and good. Food is above average and the time they take to make it shows in the details. The rooms are Japanese style and basic. No outlet plugs for charging devices. I would not stay here again.
