Hotel location is good - near public transport (Flagstaff team station) and near Victoria Market. Cleanliness was OK, except for some black droppings falling out from air-conditioning fan, and found a tiny cockcroach on last day of stay.

The hotel is super convenient. It is in the centre of Bourke street. A lots of shopping, eateries and grocers within 10m walk. Unbelievable. Only set back, they don’t have a washing machine in the apartment. The view from the apartment is good. I stay on a very high floor. The apartment is clean but a bit outdated. Overall, I will return to stay again

The hotel has an excellent location, right in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, with a bustling commercial district right outside. Various light rail lines (Melbourne doesn't have a metro, it's all trams) pass by. The hotel is clean, the front desk service is acceptable, and the breakfast is decent. The only downside is that it's not a great option for several consecutive nights without changing hotels. The hotel is new, so the facilities are quite modern. The biggest problem is that hotel prices in Melbourne fluctuate daily, and the differences are huge; for example, weekend prices can be more than double Monday prices.

This apartment is right on the edge of Melbourne’s free tram zone, just a few blocks from Flinders Street Station—an ideal base for anyone familiar with the city’s tram network. Getting around is straightforward if you know how to make the most of the free transport system. The apartment itself is well-equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. A functional kitchen includes a stove, an ample supply of cutlery and plates, and a smart TV with built-in access to Netflix—perfect for winding down after a day out. The heater did emit a high-pitched noise when first switched on, but it settled once the temperature stabilized, allowing for a restful night. The only down side is the reception is not 24hrs.

I recently stayed at the Mercure Melbourne in the heart of the city, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The location couldn’t be better—right in the middle of Melbourne, with shops, restaurants, public transport, and major attractions just steps away. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with all the amenities you’d expect from a quality hotel. The bed was cosy, the Wi-Fi was fast, and I loved being able to walk straight out into the buzz of the city. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and professional, making check-in and check-out smooth and hassle-free. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of fresh options, and the dining area was bright and inviting. Overall, Mercure Melbourne is perfect for both business and leisure travellers who want convenience, comfort, and great service in the heart of the city. I would definitely stay here again.

The stay was a great disappointment. The basic amenities were not maintained properly. It was winter the temperature was below 10 degrees celsius the living room window latch is faulty resulted in slightly ajar and cold wind leaking into the room we tried to close the door between the living room and bed room to prevent the leaking cold winds blowing into the bed room but too bad the door was faulty it could not close. Few other amenities were faulty the living room TV got no signal and the bed room safe is faulty not able to lock. We reported this and asked for a room change unfortunately they told us the room was fully booked they will have someone to fix the faulty amenities for us. But I got to give credit to them, they did remedy the faulty windows latch and door, also fix the TV signal when we are back in the late evening. Well, it's not the guest responsibilities to pre check the basic amenities and the hotel management should have SOP replacement plan for contingency like this and not have a sellout room. For me I would not stay again for sure. Thanks.

Hotel Review – Ibis Central Rating: 3.75/5 I recently stayed at Ibis Central and overall had a pleasant experience. Location: The location is definitely a highlight—conveniently situated next to a major shopping center, which made exploring and grabbing essentials super easy. Room: The room was clean and comfortable, with an interesting layout where the sink is placed inside the bedroom instead of the bathroom. We were kindly placed on the 18th floor, which offered great views—shoutout to the reception team for that. Service: Reception staff were friendly and accommodating. However, communication with housekeeping was a bit of a challenge due to the language barrier, especially when we tried to request extra blankets and pillows. It would’ve been better to ask directly at the front desk. Amenities: Something to keep in mind—there were no complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste, or slippers provided, so be sure to bring your own. Breakfast: The breakfast was decent with a good variety of options, though it stayed the same each day. The standout feature was the make-your-own juice station, which was a nice touch. Final Thoughts: Overall, a solid stay with a few minor inconveniences. With some improvements in guest amenities and communication, this place could easily push closer to a 5.

Stayed at Ibis Kingsgate for two weeks as I was here to celebrate my birthday. It is my second time staying here; I also came here last year for two weeks and for my birthday! The hotel is located within a good and safe area - which is great for solo travellers such as myself. I’ve seen families at this hotel too. Ibis Kingsgate is within the free tram zone (you can take the 86 or 96), with access to many amenities nearby such as Coles, Woolies, Southern Cross Station (great for when you have to catch the SkyBus), My Chemist, and a range of food and cafe options. Located at the cross junction of King and Bourke St, the hotel is also walking distance to other popular streets such Elizabeth, Queen, Williams, Colins, Lonsdale, La Trobe, and more! Flinders is nearby too, and you can just cut across to Southbank as well! In fact, you can even walk to Lygon, Docklands or even as far as Collingwood, which I did! If walking is not your thing, there are also many options for trams, trains, and buses near this hotel. Room is adequate and clean, with a nice range of television channels. There’s a fridge, kettle and tea/coffee which is occasionally refilled. Bathroom is good too; sufficient and spacious enough, and for some - there’s even a window in the bathroom! The hotel staff are nice and it’s always great to be back. Thank you for the room upgrade, it made my trip even more special. I returned the gesture by keeping the room as clean and tidy as possible. ;p Until next time! See ya later!

Final Melbourne Hotels Booking Tips

  • Melbourne’s hotel prices surge—and rooms sell out—during the Australian Open (January), F1 Grand Prix (March), and AFL Finals (September), so reserve ahead to avoid 200% rate hikes or last-minute scrambles near the MCG.
  • Unlike Tokyo’s midnight transport cutoff, Melbourne’s trams run until 1 AM on weekends; stay near Flinders Street Station, Southbank, or within the Free Tram Zone to explore bars and galleries without expensive taxi returns.
  • Skip pricey CBD towers—base yourself in Docklands for apartment-style rooms and free trams to Southern Cross Station (SkyBus to airport), or choose South Yarra for garden strolls and a 9-minute train to Flinders Street’s laneways.

XXiaojiaCame here as a ‘staycation’ for one night to celebrate my partners birthday. Service was good, the reception team made us feel so welcomed. Room was clean and the view of the river and bay was superior, as the name of this room type described. 10/10 👍🏼 we also used the gym which had a nice view too!

BBelinda JaneWe had an another amazing stay here.  Staff warmth and approachability is a stand out.  Rooms are clean and comfy. AAnonymous UserThe room was very clean and quiet, and the front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. However, one major disappointment was the “city view” — despite purchasing a city view room, there was no actual city view, which was quite disappointing at first. That said, the outstanding service made up for it overall. The pillow selection in the room was very limited and the pillows themselves were quite small and uncomfortable — they didn’t really feel like proper pillows, which was also disappointing. Additionally, the desk lamp was not working properly and kept flashing, and the room lighting setup was inconvenient; there was no option to select which areas to light up, so the room often felt too bright. The room service menu offered very limited food choices, so we ended up going out for both dinner and breakfast. Lastly, the shower head switch was extremely tight and difficult to turn, which needs improvement.

LLianggeqingpingguoThe guy at the front desk was very nice. He took the initiative to help me change to a higher floor, asked about my flight time, and arranged for a late check-out at 2 o'clock. The club lounge is generally ok, except for the fact that one of the lounge waitresses was a bit impatient when we checked in on the first day. She frowned when we called her because we were Asian? They are very nice to white foreigners. Treat differently.

__cs58000802****The room is large, both bedrooms have bathrooms, and a public bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped, the living room and dining room are large, and there are three balconies. The scenery is good, and it is perfect for family travel. There is a convenience store downstairs, which is very convenient. It's not far from the Melbourne Cricket Ground. If Swift's concert hadn't caused the house price to rise so much, I would have stayed here for 6 nights. The shortcomings are that I didn’t clean the room on the last day. I don’t know if I forgot about it.

YYew Siong TanNovotel Melbourne on Collins was a fantastic base for our family trip! The location truly is perfect – having multiple free city tram stops within 100 meters made exploring effortless. We easily walked to major spots like Flinders Street Station and the stunning State Library Victoria. Food options were plentiful nearby, making ”food hunting” a breeze. A major plus for us was the onsite parking. Renting a car was stress-free knowing we had a guaranteed, convenient spot each night (parking fee applicable, refer to hotel front desk). The room was impressively spacious, comfortably accommodating our family of two adults and a kid. Having two queen-size beds was ideal – everyone had plenty of room to sleep well. **Things that could elevate the experience further:** 1. Breakfast Variety: While the breakfast was good, a wider selection of hot and cold options would be appreciated, especially for a longer stay. 2. TV Upgrade: The current TV channel is very limited. Upgrading to Smart TVs with access to streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube would be a huge improvement for in-room entertainment, especially for families with young kids / toddler. 3. Shaving Kit Quality:The provided shaving kit's ”cream” (which was a soap) and blade weren't great. Offering a slightly higher quality kit with proper shaving cream would be a noticeable touch. **Overall:** We had a very comfortable and convenient stay thanks to the unbeatable location, easy parking, and spacious family room. Addressing the breakfast variety, TV upgrade, and shaving kit quality would easily push this towards a perfect 5-star experience. Highly recommended, especially for families needing space and city access.
