Sagrada Familia in Spain

The Sagrada Familia (also known as the Holy Family Cathedral, or simply the Sagrada Familia) is located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and is a World Heritage Site. It is a large Roman Catholic church, consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI as a papal basilica. The construction of the Sagrada Familia began in 1882, designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), with the overall inspiration coming from nature, such as caves, mountains, and flora and fauna. The construction of the Sagrada Familia has been slow, relying solely on individual donations and ticket revenue, and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, with construction intermittently continuing in the 1950s. In 2010, more than half of the construction was completed, but some of the biggest challenges in the construction process have yet to be resolved. It is expected to be completed in 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.
