Not to be missed temple in Hakone
This really is a must-visit attraction in my opinion. It is easy to find, only a two minute walk away from Sengoku bus stop. The temple has been there since 1356, and the numerous statues are each meant to represent a monk who lived and died at the temple. It is very peaceful, since it is not very well-known (yet), and beautiful all year round. There is also an adjoining cemetery, which was very interesting to us since Japanese cemeteries are unlike any we have seen anywhere else in the world. There are also toilets available, should you require them.
In 2024, I want to visit this place again.

Choanji Temple
This is a very special place. We toured the small park next to the temple for almost 2 hours in the rain. We could not get enough of the more than 200 statues in the park. The over two hundred statues of rakan (disciples of Buddha) scattered around the temple grounds. The statues began appearing in the 1980s and have been accruing ever since. Each statue has a unique face and shape. The temple itself is also well worth a visit. There is no information in English available. Behind the temple is a local cemetery also well worth a visit. To find this place get off the bus at Sengoku (仙石) bus stop. From there it is a 2 min. walk.
In 2024, I want to visit this place again.
