#Xiamen Botanical Garden Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Big park
I was recommended to make a trip to the botanical garden when I was visiting Xiamen for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I spent a few hours walking around and could not cover everything. Beautiful flowers and palm trees.
You can actually get some good exercise climbing to the top of the mountain but there are also the option to take the shuttle bus.
The most popular place to take pictures are by the cactuses. They are super cool.

Beautiful Xiamen- Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden is a bucketlist item when visiting Xiamen. It is located on the southern side of the island, close to Xiamen University, the cable car, Shapowei and Zhongshan Road. It usually costs 40¥ to enter, but entry is free during the major public holidays.
It is recommended to set aside about 3-5 hours to explore the gardens, as there is a lot to see.
The gardens are home to around 4000 different plant species, and are divided in different sections, like the bamboo forrest, succulent garden or Pine and Fern Garden.
There are also plenty of temples to see, and beautiful lawns to have a picnic, or take a nap on.
It is a great place to take the kids, or to see some interesting plants and beautiful scenery

Really nice walk
Lovely tranquil place to have a stroll. Lots of trees give it shade so great if, like me, you don’t like things too hot! Only cost €3 each to go in, guide leaflet in your language was useful and lots of exotic and weird looking plants and trees. Well worth a visit for an hour or so - really strange to see the “big brothers” of our house plants!A lovely place to walk and browse the many different trees and shrubs with a water pond gallery also. Some different and prettily flowering examples from around the world.
Could do with some TLC and maybe even a little refurbishment in some areas, but reasonably enchanting for a small entrance fee.

Took a break from the cold, rainy Shanghai weather to spend a couple of days in sunny Xiamen!
From rooftop cafes, to the massive botanical garden, to Jimei School Village, there are no shortage of sights to see in Xiamen.
One unexpected find was the Railway Cultural Park. What started off as me following an abandoned railway track, wound up being an hour walk along it through changing sceneries with locals playing various games in this makeshift park. I stopped walking after an hour but the railway park continued on as far as the eye could see 🛤
This was my second time in Xiamen and I def see myself going again!

Xiamen Garden Botanical Garden, commonly known as Wanshi Botanical Garden, is located in Wanshi Mountain, southeast of Xiamen Island, Fujian Province. It is backed by Wu Laofeng, Nanputuo Temple and Xiamen University, and is adjacent to Zhongshan Road Commercial Circle. Founded in 1960, it covers an area of 4.93 square kilometers and is the first botanical garden in Fujian Province. It is an important part of Gulangyu-Wanshishan Scenic Area, integrating plant landscape, natural landscape and human landscape.
Xiamen Garden Botanical Garden is the first batch of AAAA-level tourist areas in the country. It is a provincial, municipal and national science education base, the first batch of environmental education bases in Fujian Province and the protection of mother river ecological education base.
There is something special to come today, and it is awesome to find planes and tanks for display in the park unexpectedly! Of course, in addition to aircraft tanks, my favorite is the meaty park, many cacti and succulents, it is great! Come to Xiamen to travel must not miss the network red photo spots!

Pretending to be in Morocco, it is actually a botanical garden and a cafe in Xiamen.
1-6Xiamen Botanical Garden
The succulent area of the park is not large. There are phoenix orchids, tall cactus and a prickly pear inside. Many tourists like to come here to take pictures and simulate the desert environment. You can find the visual sense of the Central American desert.
7-9The gorgeous space
cafe is amazing, not only sitting down to drink coffee to see green plants, but also a micro landscape design company.
Spring is a good place to enjoy flowers - Wanshi Botanical Garden
set plant landscape, natural landscape, human landscape in one of the Wanshi Botanical Garden is a good place to enjoy the spring.
The most impressive is the tropical rain forest area and the succulent area. The tropical rain forest area is beautiful, and the smoke effect will make the whole park
stunned. A lot of Miss Hanfu girls shuttled through the photos to form a beautiful landscape. The succulent area is also a highlight of
, and the various forms of fleshy cactus are really feasting.
Xiamen Garden Botanical Garden, commonly known as Wanshi Botanical Garden, is located in Wanshi Mountain, southeast of Xiamen Island, backed by Wu Laofeng Nanputuo. There are 20 scenes in the new Xiamen, and there are also three scenes in the park: Wanshi Hancui, Tianjie Xiaozhong, Taiping Shixiao.
So if you are tired of the hot spots of those popular attractions, you may wish to take a walk in the botanical garden. Even the flow of people at the entrance is great, but fortunately the botanical garden is big enough to walk away and enjoy it.
Walk into the park with more than 7,000 plants, where you can dance with flowers, live with grass, and carnival with trees, as if walking into the tribute of life, the cradle of everything.
It is not long after entering the park, it is the vast Wanshi Lake. This emerald lake, the calm lake is like a mirror, reflecting the lake and mountains, mapping a parallel world. Whether it is beautiful emotions or deep sorrows, you can enjoy it here.
The botanical garden is very big. It is obviously impossible to travel around every corner in just one day. Try to pick some interesting park tours. Along the winding road to the mountainside, you can see a large cactus. The large succulents and cacti in the outdoor exhibition area are majestic, while the outdoor is a large-scale cactus plant landscaping, which is rare in China.
The green trees and safflowers along the way, as if all the plants were woken up by the sun, emitting a radiant glow, and the warm sunshine gave the surrounding a warm-colored filter. Take a deep breath of warm, humid air, um, this is the breath of the South.

Xiamen Must-Visit Attractions—Botanical Garden (Travel Guide)
The Xiamen Botanical Garden was established in 1960, covering an area of 4.93 square kilometers, and is the first botanical garden in Fujian Province. The garden is home to more than 8,000 species of exotic plants, including over 2,000 succulents and more than 500 cacti. It features specialized areas such as the Psammophyte Zone, Casuarina Equisetifolia Grassland, Rainforest World, Vine Plant Zone, Flower Garden, Hundred Flowers Hall, and West Mountain Garden, among its 15 specialized garden zones, earning it the nickname 'Green Museum'.
Recommended Attractions in the Garden
First stop: Casuarina Equisetifolia Grassland
Just a short walk from the main entrance, you'll see a large expanse of Casuarina Equisetifolia lawn. Taking photos here in light-colored clothing is really gorgeous.
Second stop: Rainforest World
The ethereal tropical rainforest garden, where sunlight filters through the leaves, feels like stepping into a fairyland forest. Be aware of the misting schedule, as taking photos during misting times is incredibly beautiful.
Misting schedule: May 01 - Oct 07 09:30-11:30 AM, 02:30-04:30 PM
Oct 08 - Apr 30 of the following year 09:00-11:00 AM, 02:00-04:00 PM
Third stop: Succulent Plant Area
It's like walking into a desert oasis, full of exotic charm. With giant cacti as the backdrop, every shot is a cool masterpiece.

Fifth stop: West Mountain Garden
You don't have to be Alice to wander through this wonderland. Those who like fairy tale styles must not miss this place.
📌Little Tips: 1. In the succulent area of Wanshi Botanical Garden, don't venture too deep, as there are a lot of mosquitoes, and mosquito repellent is ineffective. Venturing in can result in being bitten all over the legs.
2. It is recommended for girls to prepare a set of white dresses or fresh clothes and accessories. Accessories can be used for posing, and white dresses or fresh clothes look super good in photos taken in the botanical garden.
3.〈Very Important Tip〉It is advised to enter from the west gate of the botanical garden. After entering the west gate, turn right. If you go left, there will be many uphill paths. (Those who are not physically strong should definitely not go left, as it will be very tiring.)
💰Ticket Price: Full ticket 30 yuan, half ticket 15 yuan (sometimes there are promotions on Ctrip where full tickets are only 20 yuan, half tickets 5 yuan).
🕙Opening Hours: 06:00~18:00
Surroundings: Behind the botanical garden are the Wulao Peaks, Nanputuo Temple, and Xiamen University, close to the Zhongshan Road shopping district, about 1 kilometer from Zhongshan Road, about 2 kilometers from the ferry terminal, and about 3 kilometers from Xiamen Railway Station.

This private garden courtyard is a hidden treasure of poetic grace and elegance!
This garden courtyard, with its white walls and black tiles, is small and delicate, with a well-arranged layout. The distinctive feature of the Suzhou-style architecture, as opposed to the northern courtyards, is the integration of the garden with the residence, where the color palette is predominantly in shades of black. The hazy ambiance of 'four hundred and eighty temples of the Southern Dynasties, how many towers in the misty rain' is created in this way.
Under the blue sky and white clouds, admiring every grass and every tree, every flower and every plant in the courtyard, the exquisitely designed garden vividly displays the multi-layered Suzhou-style landscape. Living in such an environment is incredibly serene and beautiful.
Come play at the Xiamen Botanical Garden!
The ticket price is 30 yuan per person, free for children under 1.2 meters, and half price for children/students/seniors.
Tropical Rainforest Mist Spray Schedule
Starting from October 8th, it will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am; 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Before October 8th, it will be half an hour later.
If you have enough time, it is recommended to enter from the South Gate and exit from the West Gate, where there is also the Zhonggu Cableway.
The round trip on the Zhonggu Cableway takes 40 minutes and costs 80 yuan per person.
After entering from the South Gate, you can get a map and follow the crowd to the elevator shown in picture 4. There are a total of 6 or 7 elevators that continuously take visitors to the top of the mountain. Of course, energetic friends can choose to climb the stairs.
Once you reach the highest point, you will see many beautiful landscapes. After a long corridor, you can take an elevator to the garden shuttle ticket point, where two types of tickets are sold: 5 yuan for a direct trip, and 10 yuan for a round trip. The round trip means you can get on and off at each of the 5 stations from the South Gate to the West Gate, and finally return to the South Gate with the ticket.
Since we only arranged half a day, we chose to go from the South Gate to the West Gate without turning back, and visited two attractions: the Succulent Plant Area and the Tropical Rainforest Area. The succulents are quite interesting to see, especially the cute ones in the warm house. We missed the mist spray time in the rainforest area and didn't see the Tyndall effect, which was a bit regrettable, so we didn't stay long and left. It is recommended that everyone can reserve a whole day to play in the botanical garden.
Walking towards the West Gate of the botanical garden, you can see the Zhonggu Cableway. If interested, you can choose to take a ride and overlook the entire panorama of Xiamen, especially during sunset, which is definitely a unique experience~
There is a southern charm called Xiamen
Xiamen's must-visit Gulangyu Island is recommended for a full day's tour. If you're not staying on the island, you need to go to the pier to take a ferry, and it's best to book ferry tickets in advance, otherwise, you'll have to wait for the boat.
Xiamen University, Nanputuo Temple, and Xiamen Botanical Garden are adjacent to the Xiamen Railway Museum, and you can plan a day's visit.
The Xiamen Railway Museum is just a section of abandoned railway track, an open-style small park, right next to the Xiamen Botanical Garden.
The Xiamen Botanical Garden is a lot of fun, and it is recommended to allocate at least half a day.
Huang Zehe's barbecued pork buns are highly recommended, they melt in your mouth!

South Gate route is recommended for self-driving (there is a parking lot) or taking a taxi, public transportation is not very convenient.
🧵Recommended route from the South Gate🧵Enter from the South Gate - West Mountain Garden - Flower Garden - Succulent Plants - Rainforest World - South China Fir Sparse Forest Lawn Station - Exit from the West Gate
That's the gate with the sightseeing elevator, near the Xiamen University student apartments, only bus 49 goes there, other buses can only go as far as Shang Li and then walk.
It's far from the succulent area and the tropical rainforest area, (but you can take the sightseeing car there, it's fast and convenient)
After taking the elevator to the top, the route is all downhill, very relaxed.
West Gate entrance, convenient transportation, many buses can get there, close to the tropical rainforest area, about a 10-minute walk.
🧵Recommended route🧵Enter from the West Gate - South China Fir Sparse Forest Lawn - Rainforest World - Succulent Plants - Flower Garden - Return to the West Gate.
Subway: Line 1 to Zhongshan Park Station, walk 600 meters to the West Gate of the Botanical Garden

Succulent area: A very photogenic place, very shocking for people from the south,
Rainforest area, there will be misting before four o'clock, it won't wet clothes, and you may encounter Tyndall light.
Rainforest World misting times.
9:30~11:30; 14:30~16:30 (May 1st~October 7th)
9:00~11:00; 14:00~16:00 (October 8th~April 30th)
Note tips:
The best route: Personally suggest entering from the South Gate and exiting from the West Gate, saving time and effort
Zhonggu cable car is at the West Gate, if you want to take the cable car, enter from the South Gate and exit from the West Gate, don't go back the same way.
Definitely don't be fooled at the entrance! Ignore them, ignore them.
The tropical rainforest area must be visited during the misting time! The trails in the Rainforest World are narrow, and the road surface is slippery, so try to wear sports shoes
Drinks and snacks🥤: Optional, there are many vending machines in the park, with water, drinks, and a little bit of snacks, the price is about 2~3 times the normal price.
Whether you enter from the South Gate or the West Gate, it is more convenient to take the scenic bus back.
If you only want to see the misting in the Rainforest World, it's closer to enter from the West Gate. If you want to see the mountain and sea scenery, flowers, succulents, it's just right to enter from the South Gate and then exit from the West Gate.

Xiamen Botanical Garden, a botanical garden worth visiting
Xiamen Botanical Garden, to me, feels like a small island; it's really vast. However, I really like the infrastructure of the park. Entering from the south gate, after walking a bit, there's a mountain elevator, which is such a energy saver. What would be a half-day hike is done in half an hour. Once you're up, there's a sightseeing bus that goes up and down the mountain. You can get off at a station to look around, then take the sightseeing bus to the next stop. The planning is very thoughtful, taking into account the needs of the elderly and children. The rainforest world is truly comfortable😌
Xiamen Botanical Garden|The sunshine is the best filter, with a guide attached
The sunshine is the best filter, with a guide attached. I arrived at the botanical garden around 9 a.m., not many people, and the rainforest area just started misting 😜.
🐾On the way up the stairs just after entering the garden, I also met the botanical garden's celebrity cat Mimi, who is super cute and chubby 😻! Its unique sitting posture is simply adorable 😘!
🚶We entered from the west gate and exited from the south gate. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the sightseeing elevator near the south gate. It's about a 5-minute walk from the west gate to where you can buy sightseeing car tickets. If you're not physically strong, it's recommended to take the car, as the 10 yuan pass is very cost-effective 💰.
🤔However, it's true that your hair will get wet, it will stick to your scalp not long after entering. So, remember to bring an umbrella or a hat 👒!
🌈Additionally, here are some tips for you:
1. Be sure to choose a sunny day to go, as it makes for better photo effects 📸!
2. The misting time is limited, remember to find out in advance so as not to miss it 🕙.
3. The garden is very large, you can choose the right route according to your physical strength and preferences 🚶.
4. Bring enough water and snacks to replenish your energy at any time 💪.
Xiamen Botanical Garden|An excellent off-the-beaten-path destination for National Day in October
📍Detailed address:
The botanical garden is located in Siming District, inside Xiamen Island, not far from the old city area and attractions such as the island road, Zengcuoan, Gulangyu, etc. The transportation is very convenient, and many buses can directly reach the entrance.
✅Must experience:
1️⃣Rainforest World
The Rainforest World covers an area of about 16 hectares. Inside the park, there are "Ziyun Road" and "Gaodu Qindong" scenic spots from the old 24 scenes of Xiamen, and the city-level cultural relics protection unit - Qiaoxi Bridge built in the Ming Dynasty.
The garden, while preserving the original natural vegetation, enriches species diversity by introducing and cultivating plants with rainforest characteristics, forming a rainforest vegetation with more community layers, showing strangulation phenomena, old stems flowering, aerial gardens, plank root phenomena and other rainforest characteristics. A fog forest system is built in the garden, which atomizes tap water and sprays it out, creating a misty space, creating a fantasy world that is both illusion and reality.
2️⃣Succulent Plant Area
Succulent plants, also known as juicy plants or fleshy plants, refer to plants with thick and juicy stems, leaves or roots. The Succulent Plant Area covers an area of about 4 hectares. It was established in 1999 and has three indoor exhibition halls: the Cactus Plant Exhibition Hall, the Succulent Plant Exhibition Hall, and the Forest Succulent Plant Exhibition Hall, as well as an outdoor exhibition area simulating a desert environment. The area now collects more than 50 families and nearly 3,000 species (including varieties) of succulent plants. It is one of the most characteristic specialized garden areas in our garden and an important base for the cultivation and garden application demonstration, scientific research and science popularization education of succulent plants in China.
3️⃣Palm Plant Area
The Palm Plant Area (Palm Island) is located on the east side of Wanshi Lake. It is a peninsula protruding into Wanshi Lake. The scenery is unique with coconut trees, lake light, mountain color, and green shadows, presenting a scene of a small island coconut grove in the south. There is a tea room built in the form of a Dai-style building, with a lotus leaf-shaped footbridge and a lotus pond next to it.
Palm plants are mainly trees and shrubs, with a few vines, distributed in tropical America and tropical Asia. There are about 2,500 species in the world, and China has 18 genera and 117 species (including varieties) that are native, mainly produced in South China and Southwest China. Palm plants are excellent garden ornamental plants and can also be used for fiber, food, oil, starch, medicinal materials and many other purposes.
Our garden has introduced palm plants from all over the world, ranking among the top botanical gardens in China. In November 2011, the State Forestry Administration established the "National Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Natural Reserve Construction Project - Palm Plant Conservation Center" in our garden.
4. Nanyang Fir Sparse Forest Lawn
The Nanyang Fir Sparse Forest Lawn, also known as the Nanyang Fir Lawn, was established in the 1960s and was designed by Professor Sun Xiaoxiang, a famous Chinese garden master. It is located on the south side of Wanshi Lake and covers an area of about 1 hectare. The Nanyang Fir family has 3 genera and 37 species. Our garden currently introduces 3 genera and 15 species. About 10 hectares of heterophyllous Nanyang fir forest is planted on the southeast side of the Nanyang Fir Lawn, which is currently the largest heterophyllous Nanyang fir pure forest in China.
Lazy Man's Guide to Xiamen Botanical Garden
Attention, all lazy people!!!
There are six attractions in the garden, for photo ops just remember the Rainforest Area and the Succulent Area, no need to go to the others! Photos won't turn out well!
We stayed in Zengcuoan, the nearest taxi ride to the south gate of the botanical garden. After entering, take the elevator directly to the top of the mountain, where you can overlook the beautiful Xiamen seascape!!! Then buy a minibus ticket for 10R per person, first go to the Succulent Area for photos, then walk 300 meters to the Rainforest Area, where the mist makes for great photos.
Note: The mist in the Rainforest Area is time-limited, from 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon.
The Rainforest Area is quite crowded, and the ground is wet, try not to wear floor-length skirts and white shoes!!!
If you enter from the west gate and don't mind the walk, you can walk up the mountain to the Rainforest Area, about 500 meters, an eight-minute walk. After taking photos, continue walking up to the Succulent Area. In short, these two areas are very close, no need to queue for the minibus!!!
For visitors staying near Gulangyu Island, it is more convenient to enter from the west gate. If you are staying in Zengcuoan, Huangcuo Beach, or Baicheng, go directly to the south gate. There will be some people at the south gate telling you that there is nothing fun at the south gate, and they will ask you to go directly to the west gate. Ignore them, just buy a ticket and take the elevator to the top of the mountain!!!
Unfortunately, we didn't get to take the cable car this time, but we will definitely try it next time!!!
Lost in Wonderland - Xiamen Botanical Garden
The rainforest area is so photogenic. When I went there, there were all little sisters in white dresses taking pictures haha. I was also. People with social phobia pay attention. There are many people after two o'clock in the afternoon. If you want to take pictures, it is recommended to go in the morning
Help, I saw the sparks of Tyndall effect and light collision
When the Tyndall effect appears, light has a shape.
This scene is too beautiful.
It makes me like the feeling of integrating with nature even more.
Light will eventually spill on you, and you will shine brightly‼️
