Zhouzhuang: the Most Charming Water Town
If you want an experience that includes Chinese history, culture, art, and food, this is the place! Zhouzhuang isn't far from the heart of Suzhou, and every part of this water township is delightful. The bridges, canals, and alleyways look like they fell out of paintings. The markets are extensive, with food and art and embroidery that dazzles the senses. On my trip to Suzhou, this was definitely my favorite place to visit, and I'm so glad that I went! #suzhou #zhouzhuang #watertown #solotravel #summervacation #historicculture
Zhouzhuang - The Ancient Beauty!
Zhouzhuang ancient town is huge! There are lots of things to see, do and enjoy. Expect to spend at least 2 days if you really want to get everything in. You can find souvenirs, artists and painters of all kind (I got my name written on a grain of a rice and placed in a necklace). It was pretty cool to me even though a bit pricey-ish; I paid 80+ yuan but hey, I wanted to be a tourist 😅. The boat rides are awesome too, very relaxing gives and you an eyeful of the place. I'd say visit if you're ever in Suzhou. #travelinspiration #suzhou #mytripvlog #awesomepic #tripblazers
First water town in China: Zhouzhuang
The ancient town of Zhouzhuang is popularly known as the Venezia of China. This water town is located 30km away from Suzhou. As cultural gem, this town is amazingly preserved, and most of the structures date from Ming and Qing dynasties. Town is surrounded by lake and canals, you can even see people fishing in some areas.
You can walk around the town or enjoy this amazing journey in a gondola. Some of the guides will even sing during their trip to give you the authentic experience. This ancient town retains history in each building, bridge and stone. Few towns in China maintain their authenticity, and the canals give this town an additional charm you can’t find elsewhere.
There are few coffee shops, restaurants and shopping locals open along the town. Although are relatively expensive. Some locations are empty, or abandoned. Boat ride costs 180-220 RMB for an hour and a half. You are required to buy a ticket that will allow you to enter the 15 scenic spots, yet you can enter by yourself after 8pm without entrance fee (spots will be closed).

Zhouzhuang Ancient Town: The dream town of Jiangnan. The bridge is flowing, the boat is smashing, and you walk into the old wooden house in the south of the river. You can sit on the river and drink a grandmother's tea, listen to a Kunqu opera, taste a bowl of hooves, and watch a blue wave. This is how many people have fantasies about Jiangnan. Zhouzhuang is a feeling and a life.
Attractions: The best way to visit Zhouzhuang is to take a walk along the rivers in the ancient town, then go to Shen Hall, Zhang Hall, Fanlou, Ye Chuxis former residence, Chengxu Discover the monuments of the Daoyuan, Quanfu Temple, etc.
Tickets: Day Tickets
Slowly Zhouzhuang, use a cloud a day.
It is not difficult to go to Zhouzhuang. It is said that starting from Changzhou, first take the train to Suzhou, and then buy the bus directly from Zhouzhuang to the bus station for nearly three hours. Of course, if it is self-driving, it is two hours. Take the bus.
For the city people, the weekend roaming the ancient town, is a good weekend to pass the law, sitting in the boat and boating mother shaking the boat, listening to her humming a small tone, the days slow down.
Water is the soul of Zhouzhuang. "There are many waterways and alleys, people are resting on the river." They sleep on the water every day, and a stream of water, the white walls and green tiles that are lining the ground show a vitality.
It's not Quanzhou, it's a treasure of a small city in Jiangsu that has been severely underestimated~
Don't crowd into Suzhou's Shantang Street anymore
This treasure of a small city just 10 minutes away from Shanghai
Really took me by surprise

🏨'Accommodation Strategy'
When traveling around the country, I usually choose Jinjiang Hotels, convenient and comfortable, hardly ever a miss, very suitable for young people's travel choices.
This time I stayed at Jinjiang Star (Kunshan Qiandeng Ancient Town Store), the hotel has a very warm atmosphere, the rooms are also lit with warm and soft lighting, and everything is smart, just call Xiao Du to control the lights and curtains.
The lobby bar downstairs, this time decorated with Spring Festival decorations, the whole lobby was festive, giving a sense of the New Year's atmosphere in advance! The hotel also provided wish notes, where you can write New Year's wishes, which is quite meaningful!
The hotel is well located, just a 5-minute drive from Qiandeng Ancient Town. Right outside is a commercial area, making dining and shopping very convenient.
.
If you want to avoid the crowds during the holidays, consider traveling to Kunshan, this treasure city is waiting to be explored!

How extraordinary is the number one water town in the south of the Yangtze River
As one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, Zhouzhuang Ancient Town is built along the river, with bridges and streets connected, resembling a natural landscape painting. Wait for a rainy day to walk through the bluestone path with an oil-paper umbrella, watching the small bridges, flowing water, and households. At this moment, while you are viewing the scenery, you are also immersed in it. It seems as if time stands still at this moment, the commercialization of the town is not so intense, what remains is the homely atmosphere in the alleys. If one day you don't feel like going to work, why not take a turn in this water town of the south of the Yangtze River.

The town is built on rivers, with streets formed along the water, and markets along the streets, preserving 14 ancient stone bridges built during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. I also visited the former residence of Shen Wansan, the richest man in the Ming Dynasty, who at the peak of his wealth owned 2 billion taels of silver, truly wealthy enough to rival the country. The residence covers more than 2,900 square meters, with over 100 rooms of various sizes, reflecting its past splendor. Zhouzhuang Ancient Town One-Day Tour Guide! Must-see!
We chose Zhouzhuang for our trip to Wuxi and Suzhou!
I recently organized the photos from my previous trips, and to preserve these memories in a different way, I made an effort to write down my experiences! Since we were traveling leisurely, the route might have been a bit roundabout, but the focus was on a genuine travel experience.
🚩Day One: Arrival in Wuxi (Night tour of Nanchang Street)
💫After dropping off our luggage, I couldn't wait to taste the local cuisine. I chose a restaurant that's a favorite among locals. As a northerner, I wasn't quite used to it, but I recommend everyone try the 🔥Drunken Crab🔥, which we ended up eating at almost every meal.
💫Taking advantage of the night, we went to Nanchang Street. It took us about an hour to stroll through, and the overall impression was average, mainly because we wanted to take a boat ride but couldn't find a place to board.
🚩Day Two: Huishan Ancient Town and Turtle Head Isle of Taihu Lake
💫Huishan Ancient Town: There are many local specialty restaurants and snacks, and the 'You Zanzi' can save a northerner's stomach!
💫Turtle Head Isle: Located in the center of Taihu Lake, it is known as the 'Paradise of Oriental White Storks' and is one of the most beautiful attractions in Taihu Lake.
🚩Day Three: Lingshan and Nianhua Bay
👉We visited the Lingshan Grand Buddha and were amazed by the Buddhist art.
👉In the afternoon, we went to Nianhua Bay, 'a town full of Zen spirit with a unique architectural style,' according to the official promotion. It felt a bit Zen-like, but I didn't experience much of it. The artificial atmosphere was strong, and we stayed overnight in Nianhua Bay. In the morning, tour guides with loudspeakers would provide wake-up services. The food there was barely passable. Not recommended!!!
🚩Day Three: Hanshan Temple, Shantang Street, Suzhou Gardens, Humble Administrator's Garden
👉Hanshan Temple is one of China's top ten famous temples, known worldwide because of the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ji's 'Mooring by Maple Bridge at Night.' The yellow walls are very impressive, and you can ring the bell in the bell tower and feed the koi by the pond!
👉Shantang Street is an ancient street lined with quaint buildings and various snack shops🍝. We stayed on Shantang Street, which I do not recommend at all!!! It's very inconvenient for travel. It's better to visit in the morning when there are fewer people, and it's quite interesting to see the local legends and ancient buildings.
👉The Humble Administrator's Garden and the Suzhou Museum are adjacent, so you can book a time in advance on the official website and choose a half-day to visit.
🚩Day Four: Zhouzhuang
Zhouzhuang is an ancient water town with a history of over nine hundred years, known as 'China's Number One Water Town.'
💫Here you can find the Twin Bridges, Shen Hall, Zhang Hall, and many other famous historical sites, and you can also take a boat to tour the ancient town and experience the unique charm of the water town.
💫Zhouzhuang is really a lifestyle. If you like a slow pace, you can try staying here for a few more days, drinking tea, sitting on a rocking boat, and daydreaming by the river!
Come and experience the tranquil time in the ancient town
Covered by the spring light, the Jiangnan - overlooking the evening glow in Zhouzhuang ancient town in spring, I watch the scene of tender buds bursting out from countless branches, feeling relaxed. And all this seems to happen overnight, it only takes a few light rains (or perhaps a downpour), a little bit of April's time, to dye the whole tree green.
In spring, I like to burrow into the creek side filled with countless fresh greenery, and also enjoy stepping out of the room during the drizzling rain, walking into the ancient towns of Jiangnan adorned with fresh greenery, enjoying the rare comfort of the world in the cool air.
The evening glow and night colors of Zhouzhuang ancient town in Kunshan, Suzhou, Jiangsu.

Recommended touring pace: Enter the scenic area in the afternoon, wander among the ancient residences of Jiangnan, take a sculling boat through the waterways, pass through small bridges, and as the night falls, the lights begin to decorate this ancient town. 2. Recommended visiting season: This place is suitable for travel all year round, it's very interesting to walk around during the rainy season in spring, and it would be even more perfect if you could come here on a snowy winter day;

Zhouzhuang Lantern Festival||Where to go for Mid-Autumn Festival this year? The romance of the Jiangnan water towns in the poetic night~
||Where to go for Mid-Autumn Festival this year? The romance of the Jiangnan water towns in the poetic night~. People today do not see the moon of ancient times, yet the moon once shone upon the ancients. The reverie of Jiangnan water towns and the bright lantern festival brought me to Zhouzhuang's exquisite tile-style architecture, the flowing crowd like water, and it doesn't feel strange to see people dressed in Ming dynasty costumes weaving through them.
"Jiangnan Praise X Zhouzhuang" jointly create the "Moonlight Shared at This Moment" Zhouzhuang Mid-Autumn flash event, like hidden treasures. The exhibitions scattered in Zhouzhuang and the specialty shops slowly unfold a grand Ming dynasty Jiangnan scroll for us.
The surprise encounter with the lantern exhibition, these old objects that once lit our way home, also carry the heritage of time and craftsmanship~ And the refreshments from "February Collection", elegant yet tasty, have my friends and I constantly nodding in approval~
Walking further along the river, the lights are dim, and the enthusiastic hawking is incessant.
In addition to the coming and going of the black-awning boats, the moon also rises in the river~
Zhouzhuang embraces me with her warm bosom~

Zhouzhuang Travel | South Lake Bay Light Show
South Lake Bay Light Show. The charming water town of Jiangnan, the thousand-year-old town of Zhouzhuang, has a famous 'Eight Sceneries of Zhouzhuang' in history, leaving a beautiful imagination in people's hearts.
The South Lake Bay Light Show revolves around the beautiful scenes of 'South Lake Autumn Moon', 'Dongzhuang Snow Accumulation', and 'Zhuangtian Falling Geese', presenting many poetic and beautiful scenes such as the moon in the sky, heavy snow flying, and geese returning with flowing fountains, water curtains, and water walls. The South Lake Bay Light Show is a beautiful and elegant scenic line full of humanistic life, and a tranquil, rustic, and romantic life scroll of Zhouzhuang ancient town is spread out on South Lake Bay.
Zhouzhuang, built in 1086, is like a dazzling pearl inlaid between Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou. The town is a marshland, surrounded by water on all sides, and boats are needed for short distances. The whole town is built along the river, with bridges and streets connected, a typical 'small bridge, flowing water, people's home', and is renowned at home and abroad for preserving many Ming and Qing buildings. Zhouzhuang, nurtured by a thousand years of historical vicissitudes and rich Wu culture, has become a treasure of Eastern culture and an outstanding example of Jiangnan water towns with its exquisite water town style, unique cultural landscape, and rustic folk customs. Zhouzhuang is a famous historical and cultural town in China, listed on the World Cultural Heritage Preliminary List, and has won the Best Example Award for Improving the Environment by the United Nations Dubai International. Wu Guanzhong praised it as 'Zhouzhuang is the beauty of Chinese water towns', and visitors are all lingering and intoxicated.
Zhouzhuang
Located southeast of Suzhou city, Zhouzhuang is a small town under the jurisdiction of Kunshan City, surrounded by water on all sides, and still retains the architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Compared to Wuzhen, Zhouzhuang is quieter and less commercialized. The boat ride costs ¥280 per person, and a ¥100 ticket is even more incomprehensible. The restaurants within the scenic area are quite a trap, with roadside restaurants averaging ¥200-300 per person being quite common, so it's reasonable that there are fewer tourists.
Zhouzhuang is one of the earliest commercial ancient towns to open and has a history of over 20 years. Nowadays, various styles of ancient towns have emerged everywhere, and the culture of ancient towns has become more mature, but Zhouzhuang seems to have fallen behind a lot.

Zhouzhuang, rated by 'National Geographic' as the most beautiful ancient town in China, is truly exceptional
I have visited quite a few water towns, but Zhouzhuang remains my favorite.
The layout of the ancient town is compact, with streets and canals running perpendicular to each other, crisscrossing neatly. This relatively regular pattern makes my stroll more enjoyable; I start with the horizontal streets, finish them one by one, then move on to the vertical ones. After one round, I have covered all the places I intended to visit without getting lost.
Almost every type of street can be found in Zhouzhuang. The wider ones have a canal in the middle, with boats shuttling back and forth, stone embankments on both sides, willows swaying gently, and shops lined up. The narrower ones have a path on only one side, with buildings directly facing the water on the other. From this side of the street, if you're lucky, you might see beautiful women sitting in front of the windows on the first or second floor, dining and chatting elegantly—a lovely sight indeed.
Even narrower are the 'water streets,' where buildings stand back to back on both sides of the canal. Residents facing each other through their windows might even engage in cross-canal communication. Some houses have steps leading down to the water at the back, convenient for mooring boats or washing rice and vegetables in the river. However, since there are no paths along the riverbank, you have to stand on a round arched bridge to get a good view of these water streets.
In Zhouzhuang, my favorite street is called Zhongshi Street. It's not adjacent to the water and is extremely narrow, less than two meters wide, with flagstone paving and shops on both sides. After visiting a Suzhou embroidery shop on the left, you step out, take a few steps, and enter a fan shop on the right. The feeling is wonderful. Compared to the city streets that are hard to cross, it even feels a bit magical.
If you have ample time, you can also venture deeper into the ancient town. Behind the main streets, there are winding alleys with grey bricks, flanked by mottled white walls, as if you have stepped back into ancient times. Occasionally, you pass by a house with closed doors, with banana leaves peeking out from the corner of the wall, arousing curiosity about what lies inside the courtyard.
These streets, large and small, diverse in form and character, converge in this town of less than one square kilometer, making a visit to Zhouzhuang a delightfully interesting experience.

Jiangnan water town, ink-washed Zhouzhuang
Zhouzhuang ancient town is located to the southeast of Suzhou city, at the junction of Kunshan, Wujiang, and Shanghai, and is one of the first national 5A-level tourist attractions. Surrounded by water on all sides, the town was built along rivers, with streets formed by water and markets along the streets. Major attractions include Fu'an Bridge, Twin Bridges, and Shen Hall, among others. On the well-shaped river network, 14 ancient stone bridges built during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties are well-preserved. Over 800 local households live by the river, with more than 60% of the residences still retaining the architectural style of the Ming and Qing periods. Drinking tea or dining by the water, while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the water town, has also become a part of the scenery. The black-awning boats, rowed by hand, carry tourists under the ancient bridges and gently sway beneath the lush, drooping willows, creating a series of stunning Jiangnan water town paintings. The vigorous and graceful figures of the boat-rowing village women and young wives, along with the beautiful images of tourists dressed in Hanfu, add a splendid touch of color to this ink painting.
'China's number one water town' Zhouzhuang truly deserves its name. For photography enthusiasts, it is relatively easy to capture the desired photos here.
