Como, located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, sits at the southwestern end of the picturesque Lake Como, about 50 kilometers from Milan. With a population of approximately 84,000, it is the capital of the province of Como and one of Italy's most popular lakeside tourist cities. Como boasts a history of over two thousand years, dating back to the Roman era when it was already an important city. The famous scientist Alessandro Volta was born here, earning Como the title of "Volta's birthplace." The old city of Como is well-preserved, with its most famous attractions including the majestic Como Cathedral and the vibrant Piazza Cavour. Visitors can also take the Como–Brunate cable car to the town of Brunate, at an altitude of approximately 700 meters, for breathtaking views of the winding shoreline of Lake Como and the distant Alps – one of the most unforgettable experiences of visiting Como.
