The hidden landscapes of Guangxi are breathtaking — traveler post in Fusui

The hidden landscapes of Guangxi are breathtaking

Take the kids to Chongzuo this summer vacation—it’s even more exciting than Disneyland✨ Fewer crowds and stress-free learning trips I’m truly impressed by family travel in Chongzuo, Guangxi! Summer vacation is usually packed with crowded popular attractions and theme parks where you wait 2 hours to play for 10 minutes, getting sunburned and exhausted while the kids get cranky. This time, I took the kids on a 5-day, 4-night private karst study tour in Chongzuo that completely changed the way we travel with children! No crowds, no rush, learning while playing—chasing wild monkeys, exploring mysterious caves, rafting by a cross-border waterfall. It’s an immersive nature adventure that’s 100 times more fun than any amusement park🌿 🌟 Five exclusive highlights (private group only) ✅ Scientific expedition to observe white-headed langurs Follow professional forestry experts into the mountains! White-headed langurs are even rarer than giant pandas. Use high-powered binoculars for close-up views and receive a special scientific journal to record observations. Kids learn and document with a full science experience. ✅ Immersive tour of Detian cross-border waterfall Ride a bamboo raft close to the heart of the waterfall and face the magnificent international water scene. The mist often creates rainbows! Enjoy views of the Vietnam border and see a world-class scenic spot straight from the textbooks. ✅ Adventure rafting through three caves at Gulong Mountain An exciting family cave adventure! Raft through three natural crystal caves, using flashlights to explore unique stalactites. The dark, atmospheric lighting fully immerses you in the karst wonderland. ✅ Off-the-beaten-path slow travel in healing landscapes Visit the stunning Dongna Yuwan with its clear waters and flower seas, and Ming Shi Tian Yuan, the filming location of “The Journey of Flower.” Cycle through countryside paths and stroll by the river, avoiding all crowds. The fresh mountain and water scenery is perfect for photos and relaxation. ✅ Immersive Zhuang ethnic intangible cultural heritage experience Dive into local villages to experience traditional Zhuang crafts and authentic minority culture. Three-day tour of Chongzuo, Guangxi | The ink-wash landscape of the China-Vietnam border, a real-life fantasy painting

Itinerary Three days is just right! Traverse karst peaks, raft across a transnational waterfall, stroll through idyllic countryside, and enjoy a nighttime visit to an ancient Song Dynasty city. Experience border scenery and the vibrant atmosphere of the Zhuang ethnic region all in one trip. The itinerary is relaxed and unhurried, allowing you to capture the essence of Southwest China's landscape. 📍Day 1: Detian Transnational Waterfall, a Journey to a Border Landscape Wonder Spend the entire day at the Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Area, a natural waterfall shared by China and Vietnam. Take a bamboo raft close to the mist and feel the magnificent spectacle of the cascading water. Visit boundary marker No. 836 to experience the border culture up close. Hike along the mountain trails, overlooking the rolling peaks and lush green mountains and clear waters – a truly immersive experience. Enjoy a simple lunch of Zhuang-style river fish stew and bamboo rice (around 42 RMB per person). Return to the city in the evening and stroll along the Zuojiang River, enjoying the mountain breeze and relaxing after your journey. 📍Day 2: Cycling through Mingshi Pastoral Scenery, Immersed in a Landscape Painting In the morning, enter Mingshi Pastoral Scenery. Towering peaks line both banks of a crystal-clear, emerald-green river. Rent a bicycle and cycle among the rice paddies and peaks; or take a bamboo raft for a leisurely stroll, the pastoral scenery gently passing by – every frame is a masterpiece of traditional Chinese landscape painting. In the afternoon, enjoy Vietnamese baguettes and drip coffee, experiencing a unique border-style afternoon tea. At night, explore Taiping Ancient Town, where the Song Dynasty pavilions are illuminated, their reflections shimmering on the lake – a stunning night view. Enjoy grilled insect pupae and Vietnamese rice rolls at the ancient town's street stalls, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the night market. 📍Day 3: Hiking in the Blackwater River Valley, Breathing in the Fresh Air on the Return Trip In the morning, head to the Blackwater River Scenic Area. Take a boat tour through the karst canyon, where lush greenery lines the banks, the river water a vibrant emerald hue, and the air is fresh and clean. Take a short hike along the valley trail, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. Before returning home, purchase local specialties such as Zhuang chili sauce and sago cake to take home a taste of this border town. 💡Practical Tips Transportation: Arrive at Chongzuo Station by high-speed rail; charter a car to various attractions is preferred; self-driving is the most flexible option for traveling on rural roads. Accommodation: Stay in a hotel near Taiping Ancient Town for convenient access to the town's night view, dining, and shopping. Clothing: Be prepared with mosquito repellent as there are many mosquitoes in the mountains; carry a light jacket as the temperature difference between day and night is significant in the valley; light-colored clothing will look better in photos. Budget: 1050-1400 RMB per person for a three-day trip (excluding round-trip transportation). Hidden on the Sino-Vietnamese border, Chongzuo boasts continuous peaks, magnificent waterfalls, and a dreamlike night view of the ancient town. Without the crowds of popular tourist attractions, a visit here will immerse you in the beauty of Southwest China's mountains and rivers. Capture the scenery along the way, and record your journey with words. Keep moving forward, and discover more of the world's mountains and seas.

Youyiguan (Friendship Pass) in Guangxi is a historical landmark you can't miss. — traveler post in Fusui

Youyiguan (Friendship Pass) in Guangxi is a historical landmark you can't miss.

Known as the "Southern Gate of China," Friendship Pass in Guangxi is a must-visit! I visited Friendship Pass in Pingxiang, Guangxi, in mid-October. The moment I stepped inside, I felt transported back in time. Not only is it one of China's nine famous passes, but it’s also the only border crossing that remains operational today 🚛. With over 2,000 years of history dating back to the Han Dynasty, it was originally called Zhennan Pass. After several name changes over the centuries, it was officially named "Friendship Pass" (Youyiguan) in 1965 ✨. According to our guide, this was where the late Qing Dynasty General Feng Zicai defeated foreign invaders! The three-story gate tower was rebuilt in 1957. The three characters for "Friendship Pass" displayed there were handwritten by Marshal Chen Yi. Inside, the exhibition hall is filled with vintage photos and artifacts. Nearby, there’s a striking yellow French-style building that served as the border office during the late Qing Dynasty. Its arches and corridors give it a distinct European flair—perfect for photos 📸! If you’re up for a hike, head up to the Jinji Mountain battery to see the original "Krupp" cannons from the Qing Dynasty. Looking out from the city walls, the border landscape is absolutely breathtaking. Thinking about the soldiers who once guarded this pass, I have nothing but respect! Today, Friendship Pass is a bustling China-Vietnam port where history and modernity coexist. You’ll see tourists exploring while freight trucks roll through the gate. Before you leave, make sure to snap a photo with General Feng Zicai’s statue to commemorate your visit! Whether you're looking for great photo ops, a history lesson, or a taste of the unique border atmosphere, Friendship Pass is a must. Definitely add it to your travel plans! Attraction Information: Location: Youyiguan Scenic Area, Youyi Town, Pingxiang, Chongzuo, Guangxi (approx. 18km from downtown Pingxiang) Opening Hours: 08:30–18:00 (may vary during holidays) Transportation: About a 20-minute drive from the city center, or take the dedicated tourist bus 🚌

Hotel review | Staying at Baiman in Chongzuo with kids — traveler post in Fusui

Hotel review | Staying at Baiman in Chongzuo with kids

Taking the kids to stay at Baiman Hotel (Chongzuo central pedestrian street Minzu Normal College branch), the overall experience was pleasantly surprising. It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from Chongzuo South station, and there's a very large parking lot in front of the hotel, which makes parking worry-free for self-driving travelers. There's a night market across the street with plenty of snacks. The room was clean and spacious with a good sense of space, and we were given welcome fruit on arrival. Breakfast is served on the 8th floor, and for an economy hotel the selection was generous and the food tasted good, making it a better experience than similar hotels. The facilities were clean and comfortable, and the service was attentive. Whether you're arriving by high-speed rail to sightsee or driving around Chongzuo, this is a very suitable place to stay.

Back from Chongzuo: A brutally honest take — traveler post in Fusui

Back from Chongzuo: A brutally honest take

Chongzuo is located in the southwestern part of Guangxi, along the border between China and Vietnam🌿. Rolling karst peaks rise from the ground, and the landscape is serene. It features both magnificent cross-border waterfalls and idyllic hidden gems, making it a treasure of a destination tucked away at the border. The attractions are quite spread out, so I planned a 3-day itinerary that avoids backtracking. I tested it myself, and the pace is comfortable—no rushing around🚗. Day 1: Chongzuo City Center → Taiping Ancient City → Nanjin Ancient Ferry🌙. Admission to Taiping Ancient City is free. It's best to arrive in the evening; once the lights come on, the pavilions and towers reflect on the water, creating an incredible atmosphere. The downside is that it's quite commercialized, with many overpriced snacks along the street. Just stroll around and take photos; there's no need to have a full meal here. Next, head to Nanjin Ancient Ferry, which is also free. The thousand-year-old bluestone steps stretch along the Zuojiang River. With the gentle river breeze, it's a great spot for a quiet sunset, and it's less crowded, making it perfect for photos. Stay in Chongzuo city center for the night; it's convenient for dining and shopping. Day 2: Detian Transnational Waterfall → Mingshi Scenic Area🏞️. This is the highlight of the trip. The ticket for Detian Transnational Waterfall includes a sightseeing bus. As Asia's largest transnational waterfall, you can see the landscape on both sides from the viewing platform. You must take the official bamboo raft; the mist hitting your face is truly breathtaking. A quick note: the water volume decreases during the dry season, which significantly impacts the view, so try to visit during the wet season. In the afternoon, head to Mingshi Scenic Area. The outer roads and riverside cycling areas are free to access, so you can enjoy the karst peaks and rice paddies without buying a main entrance ticket. If you want to experience the bamboo raft, you can purchase a separate ticket. Riding an e-bike along the river through the fields, with the wind blowing through the rice waves, feels like stepping into a scene from a fantasy drama. Stay in Shuolong Town that night; it's very close to the scenic area, saving you from long commutes. Day 3: Sandieling Waterfall → Return trip🌊. Sandieling Waterfall is right by the road. Admission is free, and there's no need for long hikes—you can just park and snap a photo. The waterfall cascades down the cliff in three layers, making every shot look like a masterpiece. Afterward, head back. If you have time, you can take a short stroll through the roadside villages to experience the slow pace of this border town. 🚌 [Transportation Guide] The attractions in Chongzuo are far apart, and public transport is infrequent. I highly recommend renting a car or chartering a vehicle with a group. Arrive at Chongzuo South Railway Station by high-speed train; you can rent a car right after exiting the station. There are checkpoints on border roads, so remember to carry your ID card. The mountain roads have many curves, so drive slowly and don't blindly trust unknown shortcuts on your GPS. 🏨 Accommodation Tips On the first day, stay in the Jiangzhou District of Chongzuo city center. There are many hotel options, and budget hotels can be found for around 200 yuan, with convenient access to dining and shopping. On the second day, stay in Shuolong Town. There are many homestays and small hotels, and it's only a 10-minute drive from Detian Waterfall, saving you from an early morning commute. If you want an immersive experience of the morning mist over the fields, you can also choose a homestay around Mingshi. 🍜 Local Cuisine Chicken rice noodles have a clear, sweet, and savory broth made from free-range chicken, with smooth, soft noodles—it's warm and comforting. Be sure to eat the "Jia Lou" meat rolls while they're hot; the unique fragrance of the leaves wraps around the tender meat filling, and the outer skin is fried to a crisp. "Suanye" (pickled fruit/vegetables) is the soul of local food; various fruits and vegetables are pickled to be sour, sweet, and slightly spicy—perfect for cutting through grease and stimulating the appetite. The five-colored sticky rice is soft and chewy, with a faint herbal aroma; it's both beautiful and delicious. ⚠️ Travel Tips Avoid roadside unlicensed tour guides and low-priced tour groups; they often push local specialties with many scams. Do not take private, unlicensed bamboo rafts at Detian Waterfall; they are unsafe and often overcharge. Most so-called imported specialties sold by roadside vendors are fake, so don't make impulsive purchases. Restaurants around the scenic areas are overpriced; for authentic flavors, head to local shops in the city. The UV rays in the mountains are extremely strong, so be sure to pack mosquito repellent and sunscreen. This border landscape trip was free of crowds. With peaks, rivers, and waterfalls intertwined, every step of the way offered healing scenery. There's no need to rush; just take your time to feel the unique gentleness and grandeur of the border. The moment you see Detian Waterfall with your own eyes, all the travel fatigue becomes worth it. If you have time, you must come and experience this romance that belongs uniquely to Chongzuo.

Nanning's Yongjiang River, the city's mother river, blends natural beauty, history, and modern leisure activities along its banks, making it a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike. Here are some recommended must-dos along the Yongjiang River: 🌃 Night Cruise on the Yongjiang River Taking a boat ride to enjoy the light show along the banks is a classic Nanning night tour experience. Minsheng Wharf is the starting point for the cruise, where gleaming neon skyscrapers and bridges are reflected on the river, creating a breathtaking spectacle of light and shadow. We recommend choosing a cruise around 8:00 PM to avoid the scorching sun and capture the dreamy spectacle of the first lights coming on (tickets are recommended to be booked online in advance). Along the way, you'll pass the Yongjiang Bridge, where you can often see the charming sight of fishermen sitting in rows at night. 🏞️ Classic Landmarks • Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Area: Climb to the top of the Dragon Elephant Pagoda for panoramic views of the Yongjiang River, especially at sunset when the light is breathtaking. You can also visit the Millennium Cycad Garden and the Rainforest Panorama. • Changyou Pavilion: Located on the north bank of the Yongjiang Bridge, adjacent to the Sanjieliangxiang Historical and Cultural District, the attic's lighting complements the river view, making it a prime photo spot. • Yongjiang Flood Control Dike: The Qing Dynasty stone dike, inscribed with inscriptions such as "Forever Guarding the Three Rivers," is perfect for visitors interested in history. The dike's illumination at night creates a stunning atmosphere. 🚴 Leisure Experiences Along the River • Cycling Greenway: An emerald-colored trail runs along the banks of the Yongjiang River, weaving through the wetlands. Rent a bike and enjoy a relaxing and relaxing stroll, encountering sculptures and trending cafes. • Linggui Mountain Scenic Area (Yongning District): A free secret hidden gem known only to locals. Touching the head of the iconic turtle sculpture is said to bring good luck. The large lawn is perfect for picnics and camping, and the river silhouette at sunset is stunning. 🍽️ Enjoy the surrounding food scene After your night out, walk to the Water Street Food City or Jianzheng Road Night Market. We recommend trying Nanning specialties like Laoyoufen (old friend noodles), Suanye (sour wild rice noodles), and the snail and duck feet stew. Pair it with a glass of iced sugar water for a perfect end to your trip. 💡 Tips • In summer, it's recommended to visit after 4 PM to avoid the scorching sun and enjoy both the sunset and the night view. • Mosquitoes are common along the river, so be sure to bring mosquito repellent. • If you have more time, combine a day trip to the Three Streets and Two Alleys (Ming and Qing Dynasty arcades) and the Guangxi Nationalities Museum (Bronze Drum Array, Zhuang Brocade DIY). The beauty of the Yongjiang River lies in its diversity—by day, it's a poetic gallery of emerald waters and verdant mountains, and at night, it transforms into a dazzling cyber stage. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, history buff, or just someone who enjoys leisure time, there's something for everyone!

The Museum of Guangxizhuang Autonomous Region

The exhibits are plentiful, concentrated on the second and third floors, but unfortunately, the museum doesn't limit visitor numbers, making it impossible to sit still and appreciate them at a leisurely pace. I suggest following the example of other provincial museums and changing the reservation system to two-hour time slots—limiting the number of visitors would significantly improve the experience. Also, the smell of recent renovations in some exhibition halls is quite strong.

Nanning Botanical Garden

This was my first time visiting Nanning Botanical Garden & Qingxiu Mountain. It was indeed very large, very green, and very comfortable. I walked around for more than four hours without feeling tired. I didn't take the shuttle bus out until I got hungry at 4 pm. It's a great place worth visiting many times. Northerners love it.

Nanning Fantawild Asian Legend

It had a great Halloween atmosphere, but there weren't many things to do. I only found out when I got there that buying tickets a day in advance would have saved me 30 yuan... The performance was okay, they were very energetic, but there was no storyline. It's good for kids to watch for fun.
