It was a little difficult to find the place to check in. This was a nice, clean hotel room. We stayed in a family friendly room. The beds were comfortable and there were drawers and a lot of counter space, a desk, end table, and small table. There were 3 extra pillows in a cabinet. There was an access code, so when someone left others weren't left in the dark and checkout was just a matter of sending a message via WeChat. We really liked this hotel!

Advantages: The location is very good. It is the core area of the ancient city. It is also very close to the parking lot. Disadvantages: For a room with an average price of around 500, the bedding configuration is not pure cotton. Turning over and pulling the quilt will generate a lot of static electricity. After turning off the lights at night, the static electricity is clearly visible and the experience is bad. The floor heating temperature in the room is average, the air conditioner is noisy when it is turned on, and the body feels a bit cold when the air conditioner is turned off. Due to the structure of the courtyard and the large floor-to-ceiling windows, if there are people talking or children playing in the courtyard, it will affect sleep. During this lunch break, I was woken up several times by bear children. Overall: The location and the decoration are well received, but the bedding is really hip, suitable for tourists who want to find a convenient rest for shopping in the ancient city (thousand-yuan hotels in the ancient city are fully booked for this trip, and the viewing during the tour is roughly the same ) If you are looking for sleep quality and facilities, please move to the most high-end local hotel in the city center. The 300 stalls in the city of Xinzhou are already very comfortable.

Arrival and departure were both provided with pick-up and drop-off service. The owners were very welcoming. Pet-friendly; my two dogs ran freely in the yard, and the owner never complained. The rooms have large heated brick beds; prices were definitely higher during the National Day holiday, but acceptable! The only things I felt could be improved were the lack of breakfast and bottled water (over 800 yuan a night for a room, breakfast was only 5 yuan per person, although I couldn't get up to eat; there was drinking water in the room, but the local water gives me diarrhea, so I always drink bottled water). In the morning, the children run around in the yard, creating a very homey atmosphere. The yard is great for taking photos, and I booked a photoshoot for my mother at the guesthouse for 298 yuan for two outfits. Overall, very satisfied, would stay again next time.

If you want a more authentic experience than staying in a fancy hotel, this is your place. Mrs Liu (sp?) was so lovely and helpful. She speaks a bit of English and is very fast on the translation apps for what she doesn’t know. She gave us a map of the Ancient City and explained where we should visit. Every day she gave us water bottles. We stayed 2 nights. You can experience a kang bed here, in a cozy room in a quaint courtyard. It was quite firm but still comfortable. There is air con which was needed when we were there. The bathroom is small but we found that everything didn’t get wet, despite the small size of the room. The inn is on the “taxi-bus” route just off South Street. As it is a block from the Main Street it is significantly quieter as the honking of “taxi-buses” doesn’t happen as much in the alleyways. Just be careful to walk on the sides of the road as the mopeds and taxi-buses are electric so quiet, except for the honking which is loud and constant, and they drive quite fast for the size and busyness of the streets. There is plenty of food places just a short walk away from the hotel. The ancient city was a lot more touristy than we had expected. You need to prearrange with the innkeeper to organise a “taxi-bus” to pick you up from the South Gate. Regular cars are not allowed inside the city wall. We were dropped by the DiDi but it is too far and busy to walk with luggage to the inn. Mrs Liu and her husband helped us out with their mopeds. Not many “taxi-bus” drivers know the inn as it is a smaller private hotel, so make sure you have the address printed out to show them. The taxi-bus is 10RMB pp per ride and you can flag them down anywhere on the streets they are allowed on, but they may not want to go where you want to go, so just flag another one until you get one that agrees. You scan the drivers QR code to pay. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Pingyao Yunshu Inn.

Excellent value for money, spotlessly clean, and the staff provide great service. Breakfast is included, and the location offers very convenient transportation for exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll out to the square and enjoy the cool air. I wholeheartedly recommend Wutongge Hotel to anyone planning a trip to Datong.

Fantastic value for money. I really liked the room. Shower and bathroom were great. Bed was comfy. The hotel is in a quiet street a little bit outside of the main streets which for me was a big plus. It's not too far away and way quieter. The owner/husband picked me up and dropped me off at the north gate. They have a fridge where you can pay for drinks per qr code. 2 water bottles a day for free in the room. The wife gave me a map with explanations and an itinerary idea. Super nice! Improvement ideas: - Water refill from a big jug to safe on plastic - English explanation on how to book the Pingyao 3 day ticket on WeChat (I figured it out myself but a small guide would be cool) - some way to close blinds so people can't look in without having to shut off all daylight. Would recommend the place and would book again without looking for anything else.

The room is exquisite and clean. Tucao the bathroom, the bathroom and the toilet are half-spaced, the shower seat and the underground are water, and the funny thing is that the toilet really needs to be manually used, and it automatically flushes several times when taking a bath, and there is no floor towel. I mentioned it to a male boss. At that time, it was said to be a floor mat, and the male boss corrected me, and then he said, we just don't have a floor towel, alas ~~~

I took the elderly and children to visit many inns in the city, and I liked this one because of its geographical location and proximity to the hotel. The inn is very distinctive. The standard room is a little small, and the hygiene needs to be slightly improved. The boss was very considerate to communicate in advance about parking and ticket purchase. Although there was a small episode in buying tickets, it once again verified the importance of communication, but I don’t regret it because there were too many people. I will go again next time. The food in Hongwu Ji Restaurant is of good quality and low price. After two meals, the family was very satisfied. When leaving, the teacher also gave us special vinegar. If I go again, I will choose it again.

It's a lovely place. We stayed there because we couldn't book accommodation within the mountain online. But we'd probably repeat if we came back. The hosts were very laid back and friendly, and provided a completely different experience in contrast to the touristy choice. There isn't much to do in the neighbourhood, but we could have dinner and buy a beer in a shop nearby and drink it in a small terrace, which was nice. The hotel also boasts a vegetable garden, which is nice to look at from your bedroom

This homestay has a good location and environment. It is an old house with an antique atmosphere. The owner is warm and thoughtful. He drove to the station to pick us up and gave us travel guidance and helped us book the ”See Pingyao Again” sitcom. It gave us a good travel experience and we will stay at his house next time we come to Pingyao.

NNihaNicOntheGoThis hotel is not to miss, it is very beautiful with traditional style. We stayed in a beautiful room with the traditional Kang Bed (which was much more Comfortable than we thought actually), it was totally quiet at night and thanks to blackout curtain we didn’t wake up too early. The owner offered us a bottle of vinegar and he also wanted to take us to the train station for free. Actually we booked another hotel with a “normal” bed for the other days in Pingyao but we regretted a lot. We paid much more to struggle sleeping because of nonsense modernities of the other hotel with intelligent amenities making noise and light in the room. So, it is much better to keep your budget and stay in this perfect hotel. The only “downside” is the toilet without wet/dry separation but honestly at the price you pay to stay in a great place like this, it’s totally ok.

GGuest UserReally nice place, but as for most hotels, you cannot expect the staff to speak English (not a problem for me, but if you don't speak any Chinese be prepared). Location is great as it is around 2 minutes walk from 南大街/South Street and all the main museums and courtyards. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making time to explain all the places to see and were to eat. They can even help with good discounts, e.g. for the historical-themed performance '又见平遥'/Encore Pingyao as well as for restaurants. The hotel is in a beautiful traditional courtyard, very quiet area so you will sleep well at night. The room has traditional furniture, adding to the atmosphere, and while small (but good value for the price) was comfortable. The bed is a so-called 'kang' with heating - it was so comfortable in the cold winter that it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! Part of the floor has heating too. The cleanliness is good too. I would really recommend this place, very good atmosphere and with everything you need to be comfortable.

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay Location: - Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring. - 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town - 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions - 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets. I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around. Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major. Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening. Room: The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift) Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set! Service: - Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate. - Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge. - I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me. - Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here - Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed. I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

GGuest UserThe location is right at the center of the city. If you drive your own car, it might be challenging to live here as it's too central and always have traffic jam nearby. But if you are not driving then it's the perfect location. Many restaurants nearby, and a bakery right at the corner. there's also a cafe not far away, you can easily get coffee in the morning. Room is big enough for two persons. Some rooms are facing the main street, it's might getting noisy in the morning. If you mind this, make sure to send email to them in advance to check if your room is facing street...

黄善博The hotel was the priciest that we stayed at during our 45 days in China, though the beds, space, and bathroom were the nicest out of them all. For the price, I would’ve hoped that the staff would’ve been a bit more helpful—no elevator and many bags to carry up the three flights of stairs was really quite difficult. The staff also don’t speak any English at all, and my friend doesn’t speak any Chinese, and we didn’t really understand that you needed to put down a deposit of 100rmb that would then be refunded to you (or that they needed a Chinese phone number too; I didn’t have one, and as a foreigner traveling through China, if I had been by myself or didn’t know or have any Chinese friends with Chinese numbers, I would’ve been unable to check-in). The hotel was very nice nonetheless. Fantastic location, very close to everything. The walk to the old city wall took about an hour, and would’ve been a ten minute taxi ride. The street the hotel is located on is full of lots of local shops and restaurants, and feels very lively during the day. The staff was also very friendly and enjoyed speaking with the foreigner at the hotel (although I had some trouble understanding the Shanxi accent! Jin Chinese is not my strongest!). The WiFi was a bit slow. But the beds were incredible. Huge, clean, soft. Pillows were lovely. Bathroom was huge. Just wish there’d been a bit more service from the front desk. Was a tad weird to get up at 5:50am to go to the Hanging Temple 悬空寺, which is very normal, to see the woman at the front desk asleep… it was fine, but still a bit weird.

GGuest UserI enjoyed my stay at this hotel. There is quite a bit to see around Lingqiu, and I should have stayed one extra night or two. Miss Liu (刘小姐), the front receptionist, was extremely helpful, even going all the way to accompany me to the bus stop to catch the bus heading to the Pingxingguan Battle site. Miss Liu also assisted with booking a cab for my visit to the Jueshan Pagoda. This famous Pagoda was founded before England was established by William the Conqueror (if I am wrong, then pardon me, but the Pagoda was built sometime before 1077 A.D. during the Northern Wei Dynasty). Miss Liu also directed me to the gravesite of King Wu of the Northern Wei Dynasty which is right in downtown Lingqiu. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance of this hotel. One restaurant, next door to the right of the hotel, serves a wondering braised fish; the other a few doors away, sells delicious meat pies. My room was professionally cleaned and serviced daily. The hotel even allows me to doze off on the reception floor sofa to await my night train to Beijing. I will return to this hotel if I return to Lingqiu.
