What is the UK Arrival Card?

- Heads up: ETIAS is set to launch for the EU in Q4 2026, with enforcement expected to kick in during 2027!
- Just to clear things up: the UK ETA and the EU ETIAS are two completely separate, unrelated systems!
What are new UK Entry Requirements 2026?
1. The UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
The biggest change to UK border entry is the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, a digital permission scheme required for non-visa visitors travelling to or transiting through the UK.
- Who Needs It: Foreign visitors who previously did not need a visa for short stays (including citizens from Australia, the US, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, and European nations).
- Validity: Valid for 2 years (or until your passport expires) and allows multiple visits to the UK for stays of up to 6 months.
- Cost: £10 GBP (~$19.50 AUD).
- How to Apply: Applied for online or via the official UK ETA App before departure. Approval is linked digitally to your passport.
Note: If you hold a valid UK visa, UK/Irish citizenship, or settled status, you do not need an ETA.
2. No Paper Arrival Cards
Traditional paper Landing Cards / Arrival Cards have been fully phased out by the UK Border Force.
- No Forms on the Plane: You do not need to fill out physical arrival forms on your flight or at the airport.
- Digital Records: Advance Passenger Information (API) collected by your airline when booking or checking in is automatically transmitted to UK Border Control.
3. Automated eGates at Passport Control
To speed up processing times, eligible passengers can bypass manual immigration counters and use the eGates (facial recognition passport gates).
- Eligible Passports: Holders of biometric passports from Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UK, EU/EEA countries, and Switzerland.
- Age Limit: Travelers must be 10 years or older (children aged 10–17 must be accompanied by an adult).
- Process: Scan your passport photo page at the gate, look at the camera, and enter once the barrier opens.
4. Entry Checklist for Visitors

- UK ETA App (Recommended): Download "UK ETA" from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The app allows you to scan your passport's chip and auto-fill your details.
- Official UK Government Website: Visit the official portal on GOV.UK.
3.Scan Passport & Upload Photo：Ensure good lighting and high clarity。
Follow the prompts to capture your documentation:
- Scan Passport Page: Use your phone camera to scan the photo page of your physical passport.
- Scan Passport Chip (App only): Hold your phone against the back of your passport to read the biometric chip.
- Face Scan: Take a selfie or upload a high-resolution face photo (no glasses or head coverings unless for religious/medical reasons).
4.Complete National & Contact Information：Double-check entries against your passport。
Enter your personal and travel details:
- Full name, date of birth, and nationality.
- Home address and contact telephone number.
- Occupational details (if requested).
- Basic eligibility/security questions (e.g., criminal record or travel history history).
5.Pay the Application Fee & Submit：Fee is non-refundable (£10 GBP)。

Booked a 2-night Premier Two Double Beds Room at Pan Pacific London for my son’s graduation trip via trip.com.
The booking stated “pay at hotel,” but unfortunately the hotel pre-collected the payment upon booking instead of charging upon check-in. ＜PS: I've feedback to trip.com＞
Upon arrival, they also deducted GBP300 as a deposit (meaning actually charged, not just pre-authorized/blocked). During check-out, I noticed they planned to refund only GBP280 because they had automatically included a 5% per night “service charge.” Since I usually don’t carefully check hotel bills, I asked why the full GBP300 wasn’t being refunded. The staff replied, “Did you like our service?” and said they could remove the charge if I didn’t wish to pay it.
Honestly, I found this quite unreasonable and unacceptable, especially as it felt like a hidden optional charge rather than something transparently communicated upfront. This is definitely one negative point I would like to highlight.
Apart from that, the room itself was spacious, the bed and mattress were extremely comfortable, and I absolutely loved their warm bathrobes. Housekeeping service was excellent throughout the stay.

The room itself was a decent size for 4 adults and was clean. The bar and food in the restaurant was good. However, the room we booked for four people (our sons are classed as adults) was a double bed and a sofa bed. The sofa bed should not be allowed to be considered a bed and they had a cheeky to charge us extra for it. We have never had such a horrible night's sleep. There was no support, the mattress was so thin we could feel all the edges of the bed beneath us. Also the curtain hooks were broken at the top so light was pouring into the room. I had to use hair clips to try and keep the curtains closed.

Our stay here was a breath of fresh air after our experience in a shoebox hotel room in another hotel closer to London Kings Cross.
The hotel has been recently renovated and now has a modern artsy interior. Facilities and interior of the rooms are very new and clean. And we also appreciated the room size which was much more spacious compared to other hotels in London - both of us could open our large size luggages with ample room!
Although the location is not in the center of tourist attractions, we appreciated that the area was abit more quiet and peaceful but still very convenient as only a short walk to the tube (west Brompton district line) which connected us to majority of attractions easily and within short distance. It was also easy to get onto the picadilly line for Heathrow at the end of our trip as picadilly line stations are also close by. There were also busstops right outside our hotel & west brompton station is also an overground station if you need to travel to outside central london

The hotel rep was kind enough to reply that they could not refund or change the dates of my stay when I informed them with proof of an email by Emirates who cancelled the original flight and rescheduled it causing me to lose an entire whole day and of course my paid booking at the hotel. This was a last minute booking after an awful experience at a previous hotel. The building is beautiful and the staff organise a quick check in. I had the small single room which is below street level but for a one night stay before travelling on it was perfect as I just slept. Room is rather small which was to be expected based off photos but perfect for a solo traveller if you stay tidy. Came with family for a birthday weekend trip. We were all very impressed. Location is excellent- basically in the heart of London with breathtaking views of St Paul’s Cathedral. The best part about the hotel is the location. It's quite close to the Tube and fairly central so it's easy to get around London and meet people. I also thought that the breakfast was good or good enough and the gym was also satisfactory.
The one area I felt the hotel didn't meet my expectations was the small matter of being able to sleep. There is no meaningful air conditioning in the rooms and unfortunately the summer has been quite hot. If you are reading this in your room and it's 3 a.m. as you sweat and desperately try to work out whether or not it's something you've misunderstood about the controls or whether something is broken in your room (much like I did at 3 a.m. my first night), then let me assure you that it's not a you problem. The A/C simply doesn't work. It's just on the wall for show.
In the three nights I stayed I slept about an hour and a half per night. After the first night I went to the front desk and raised my concern and they gave me a fan I could plug in. This was kind but also not sufficient.
Here are a few tips for you should you decide you want to stay at the hotel in the summer:
1. One thing that worked for me first is to take a freezing cold shower before bed and then as you wake up in a pool of sweat every two to three hours take another freezing cold shower.
2. Another option that I tried was to sleep on the floor because the closer you get to the ground the cooler the air becomes. However it's questionable whether the change in temperature is worth being on that carpet.
3. A third option you might consider is to buy something frozen or if possible freeze a large watermelon or vegetable like a zucchini and sleep with it hugging it throughout the night.

For London, the value for money was okay, but there were too many issues, so I won't be staying here again. When I checked in, the front desk told me they only had accessible rooms and offered an upgrade for £100, which I declined. They then gave me an accessible room. I went downstairs later and asked another person, who immediately gave me a regular room. There was a young Asian-looking cleaning staff member who stared at me without greeting me and looked hostile, which made me very uncomfortable. Also, for two consecutive days, the cleaning staff threw away the disposable toilet seat cover from my toilet, which I've never encountered before.FromMXN$6,157

Best hotel staff I have ever met. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are super clean too. However, the rooms are… OLD. The bathroom is cold and has a hospital feel. The water took 3 minutes (literally) to get hot and fails to maintain one temperature.
Every room is paper thin. I can hear noises (noises that couples make) down the corridors. My room was also situated extremely far from the lifts so it was a maze to get out every time.
Unfortunately, this is what I would expect from a budget hotels not a “by Hilton” level. Truly disappointed.FromMXN$1,732

The hotel itself was in pristine condition however, the room that I stayed in wasn’t clean. There was hair and dust on the bed and blood stain on the runner. The reception lady was generous for letting me check in an hour early so I appreciated that. And General cleanliness is great. It was just the room I was given this time unfortunately.FromMXN$898

A truly excellent hotel that I highly recommend. It feels very safe, the location is super convenient, and the service is incredibly warm and friendly. The staff, especially the younger gentlemen, were fantastic. The only downsides were the breakfast, which had limited variety and was the same every day, and the fact that toothbrushes and slippers weren't provided unless specifically requested, which was a bit inconvenient.FromMXN$5,448

The hotel location, cleanliness and rooms were all good. We had three problems, I had stayed at this chain of hotel before and new you had to book to use the swimming pool. I rang up to do so on the 5 days before I stayed as wanted to get in a swim before bedtime with my son, I was reassured that was not needed and I could wait till the the day. I went down to reception on the day of stay and the times requested were already full which was extremely frustrating.
We had booked a room with my son, 4 so he could have the sofa bed made up which was not done when we arrived, just inconvenient.
The thing that bothered me was house keeping waking us up at 8.30 am showing me a piece of paper trying to come into room, after a very tiring day the day before with a 4 yr old that was still asleep (this also woke him up) so we were all shattered for the rest of the day.FromMXN$2,972
