Singapore Zoo Tickets

First opened in 1973, Singapore Zoo covers 26 hectares and is one of the world’s best rainforest zoos. It’s home to over 2,800 animals from 300 species, including white tigers, Malayan tapirs, crocodiles, red pandas and orangutans. The biggest highlight is its open-concept design—no iron cages here, just natural barriers like rivers, trees and low fences that let animals live in habitats close to their wild homes. I loved how this design makes you feel like you’re walking through a real rainforest, not a zoo.

Opening hours: 8:30 AM–6:00 PM (admission ends at 5:00 PM) Address: 80 Mandai Lake Rd, Singapore 729826

Two of Singapore's five major parks are worth recommending.

Singapore zoo is a definite visit for family with children (young or teenage). There were 5 parks but we only visited the zoo. A very well organised place, clean and many unique animals which we never seen in other countries. The tram service is good, easy to get on in every 10-15 mins. There are many F&B outlets including a Food Republic food court near the entrance. Before we exit the zoo, we are lucky enough to see monkeys around us. The only downside is there is no direct MRT to this place, the only public transport is only bus (limited). We took a bus from zoo to the nearest mrt station (spring something) and the driver was very rude-impatient when we ask him about the mode of payment.

Excellent. We enjoyed the varied breakfast with high-quality products. The servers were attentive. The entertainment was enjoyable. We were very close to the animals. The park itself is worth a visit. The zoo is very respectful of nature. Booking through Tripadvisor guarantees a competitive price. Ticket collection was smooth.

Singapore Safari Park's open-air design is truly stunning. Without cages separating the animals, the distance between people and visitors is instantly reduced. You can see lions relaxing in the shade and giraffes strolling on the grass, their demeanor far more lively than those in captivity. However, the experience is definitely diminished during peak seasons. We went on a weekend, and the train ride took almost an hour, and the trails were packed with people, making it difficult to take a decent photo of the animals. The tickets aren't cheap, and the food inside is also expensive, so overall the value for money is average. Unless you're traveling with children or are a true animal lover, it's a better option based on your individual needs than blindly following trends.

Singapore Zoo

Situated within the vibrant rainforests of northern Singapore, the Singapore Zoo is celebrated for its immersive, open-concept habitats. By replacing conventional cages with expansive enclosures defined by natural barriers and moats, the park offers a unique experience that brings visitors much closer to the wildlife.

The zoo serves as a cornerstone of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, a premier nature destination that also features the Night Safari, River Wonders, Bird Paradise, and the soon-to-be-launched Rainforest Wild Asia.

Top Things to do at the Singapore Zoo

Top Things to do at the Singapore Zoo

Breakfast with Orangutans

The Orangutan Breakfast Experience is one of the Singapore Zoo’s signature activities. In the early morning, you can get up close to these gentle, intelligent primates—enjoying your own breakfast while watching them go about their natural routines. This encounter not only brings their friendly nature to life, it also deepens your understanding of conservation efforts. Because spaces are limited, advance reservations are recommended. Throughout the session, expert guides provide commentary that makes the experience both educational and fun.

Giraffe Feeding Experience

The giraffe feeding experience is a fan-favorite at the zoo! You'll get the chance to hand-feed these towering herbivores and witness their gentle, graceful nature up close. Located in the Equatorial Africa zone, the exhibit perfectly mimics the African savanna, making you feel like you've been transported to a whole new world. Beyond just feeding, you'll also learn about giraffe habits and conservation efforts. It’s a fantastic activity for all ages—especially families with kids—that adds an extra layer of fun to your zoo adventure.

Fragile Forest

Step into the Fragile Forest, a vast domed greenhouse within the park that recreates a tropical rainforest ecosystem. Here, you can marvel at rare lemurs, giant butterflies, and a variety of tropical insects. More than a showcase of biodiversity, it also helps visitors appreciate the importance of conservation. As you wander its paths, you’ll feel fully immersed in nature, experiencing a serenity and beauty worlds apart from the city. It’s a popular spot for photography and family outings.

Animal Show

Signature shows like Splash Safari and the Animal Friends Show are highlights at the Singapore Zoo, blending animals’ natural behaviors with professional training to showcase their intelligence and skills. These performances aren’t just entertaining—they’re educational, too, helping visitors learn about different species’ daily habits and conservation efforts. Showtimes are set, so you can plan your visit around the schedule and make the most of your day at the zoo.

Asian Elephant Exhibit

The Asian Elephant exhibit offers a close-up look at the herd’s daily life, where visitors can watch their social interactions and see keepers in action during feeding time. Detailed interpretive displays introduce the elephants’ ecology, behaviors, and the conservation challenges they face. The Asian Elephant area also features live presentations and educational programs that help you get to know these gentle giants even better—making it one of the zoo’s must-see highlights.

Children's Rainforest World (Rainforest KidzWorld)

Children’s Rainforest World is specially designed for kids, featuring a playground, an animal feeding area, and a mini zoo. Interactive activities let little ones get up close to gentle small animals and learn to respect and care for all living things. The water play facilities are a big hit too, offering the perfect place to cool off on hot days. This area is a must-visit for family trips, where both kids and parents will have a great time.

Reptile Kingdom (RepTopia)

Reptile Kingdom showcases a wide array of reptiles—from snakes and lizards to turtles and tortoises. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed to balance education with discovery, helping visitors understand the unique ecology of cold-blooded animals and the vital roles they play in the wild. Expert commentary and interactive displays make the visit even more engaging, making this a must-visit for reptile lovers and anyone interested in science education.

What to Eat Near Singapore Zoo

Ah Meng Restaurant

Named after the zoo’s late, beloved orangutan, Ah Meng, this restaurant is perfectly situated in the heart of the park, right next to the first tram station. Ah Meng Restaurant operates as a cafeteria-style eatery, serving up a delicious mix of Asian and Western favorites, including Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, chicken cutlet rice, and refreshing fruit juices. They also offer vegetarian options and use eco-friendly tableware. The dining area is bright and spacious, with some seats offering a lovely view of the park’s pathways—making it the perfect spot to recharge halfway through your adventure. The restaurant is open daily until the evening, but since the zoo can get quite busy, we recommend heading over a bit early or avoiding the peak lunch rush to skip the lines!

Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant

Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant sits at the far end of the park toward the Bird Park side, featuring lush, rainforest-inspired decor and a kids’ play area. The menu spans curry chicken rice, pasta, burgers, and freshly squeezed juices, with generous portions and well-balanced flavors. There are also buffet stations—perfect for the whole family to enjoy after hours of exploring. Ulu Ulu opens daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM; consider planning your meal before or after a visit to the Bird Park or the Night Safari. It’s easy to get to and pleasantly peaceful.

Mandai Rainforest Treehouse
Our vacation experience completely exceeded expectations. The hotel truly goes above and beyond for its Treehouse guests, offering the best service. Staying in a Treehouse comes with complimentary Forage afternoon tea, 24-hour butler service, on-demand golf cart transfers to the zoo, free laundry for 5 items, a choice of à la carte breakfast at Forage or the regular buffet, wine with dessert, and a complimentary minibar. We arrived at 12 PM, and Treehouse guests have a dedicated Priority Check-in with staff who speak Mandarin. As we hadn't had lunch yet, they immediately arranged for us to have afternoon tea at Forage. After tea, a buggy took us directly to the food court at the zoo. From there, it's a short walk to the Night Safari, Singapore Zoo, and River Wonders. To get to the Bird Paradise and Rainforest Lumina, you need to go downstairs and catch a shuttle bus. It's incredibly convenient because there's a dedicated buggy path from the hotel to the zoo. We even called a buggy directly when we went to the food court for bak kut teh in the evening. The buggies are plentiful and always arrive promptly, which is very convenient. The Treehouses are divided into West and East wings, each with its own private pool, making for a total of two. These pools are exclusive to Treehouse guests, offering excellent privacy. We spent two days there and saw absolutely no one else. The public pool is on the 5th floor, not huge, but offers a fantastic view of the entire reservoir. On the same floor as the public pool, there's also a sky garden, perfect for an evening chat. The interior design of the Treehouses is also excellent, and the bathroom even has its own air conditioning. A window next to the bathtub can be opened to enjoy nature, yet still maintains great privacy. Upon check-in, I asked for an upgrade to a room facing the reservoir, but was told none were available. Our room was on the highest floor, furthest inside, facing the jungle, with a partial view of the reservoir. In the end, I found that the rooms facing the jungle offer the best privacy, as the balcony cannot be seen from the walkway outside. For breakfast, we chose Forage. The menu had quite a few options, and we could order anything we wanted. The food was pretty good. I look forward to trying the regular buffet next time. Check-out was also seamless; they took us directly to the taxi stand. Since we had no additional charges, we didn't even need to go to the front desk, which was incredibly convenient! I had seen some not-so-positive reviews before, and there weren't many specific reviews about the Treehouse experience, so experiencing it myself was truly different. The interior environment is impeccable, and the service is quite attentive. Turndown service included a turtle canvas bag. Both meals at Forage were also excellent. This experience offers great value for money in Singapore. I do have two suggestions: First, the free laundry for 5 items is pointless for guests staying one night, as they send the clothes out. You need to have them picked up before 10 AM to potentially get them back by 4 PM the same day. Second, the bathroom provides a very thoughtfully designed hotel canvas bag, but it states that it's for use during your stay, and taking it costs $35. At this price point, I think they shouldn't be so stingy about such things; it's just a canvas bag. If it's not a gift for guests, they shouldn't put it in the room at all. Overall, it was a vacation experience that far exceeded my expectations, and if I have the chance, I will definitely stay in a Treehouse again.
