Echo Beach: The Chill Coastal Classic

For many, Echo Beach remains the quintessential Canggu experience. It offers a self-contained lifestyle where you can surf, enjoy legendary beachside BBQs, and catch stunning sunsets without ever needing a motorbike.

  • The Vibe: While crowds have shifted toward the trendier hotspots of Batu Bolong and Berawa, Echo Beach has retained a peaceful charm. It’s perfect if you want premium amenities like COMO Beach Club or the iconic La Brisa minus the overwhelming bustle.
  • Don't Miss: Healthy eats at Shady Shack or a morning session at the local yoga studios.

Batu Bolong: The Vibrant Heart of the Action

Batu Bolong is the undisputed centre of Canggu’s energy. Stretching from the main road down to the shore, this area is a high-octane mix of kitschy boutiques and high-end dining.

  • The Vibe: This is the neighborhood for those who want to be in the thick of it. It’s home to famous names like Mason, Old Man’s, and The Lawn. Expect plenty of surf rentals on the sand and the island's "coolest crowd" waiting for the next set.
  • Accommodation: Offers everything from upscale luxury hotels to social hostels. Note: Come here for the nightlife, not for a quiet night's sleep.

Jalan Nelayan: The "Gym Alley" Discovery

A relatively recent favorite, Nelayan has transformed into a fitness enthusiast's dream. It’s a slightly more understated pocket of Canggu that offers a refreshing break from the massive beach club scene.

  • The Vibe: Known as "Gym Alley" due to the presence of Body Factory, Canggu Studios, and the spinning favorite Zycle. The beach remains largely undeveloped, making it a great spot to watch local fishermen or catch a boat to Uluwatu.
  • Highlights: Visit ZIN Cafe for free co-working, Kynd Community for aesthetic plant-based meals, or Serenity Eco Guesthouse for budget-friendly massages and yoga.

Berawa: The Trendy Up-and-Comer

Though reaching Berawa requires navigating the infamous "Canggu Shortcut," the effort is well worth it. It’s arguably the most vibrant area for shopping and modern dining right now.

  • The Vibe: Berawa feels fresh and intentionally curated. It strikes a balance between being "vibey" and slightly less congested than the Batu Bolong core.
  • Food & Nightlife: Home to the world-famous Finns Beach Club, as well as culinary hits like Mosto, Copenhagen Berawa, and the must-try Dough Darlings.
  • Surf: Known for having some of the most consistent and superb waves in the region.

To be fair, Canggu isn’t typically the first place you’d go for a deep cultural immersion or traditional sightseeing—for that, you’re better off heading to Ubud. Instead, Canggu’s charm lies in its transformation: while many of its famous rice paddies have been replaced by a world-class dining and entertainment scene, it remains a premier destination for black-sand beaches and consistent surf breaks.

Ultimately, Canggu is the ultimate "lifestyle" hub. It’s the kind of place where you can easily settle in for a week to balance remote work, high-intensity fitness, spa treatments, and—most importantly—an endless rotation of incredible restaurants.

The Essential Canggu To-Do List

  • Beach Club Culture: Spend a day lounging at iconic spots like Finns, The Lawn, COMO Beach Club, or the bohemian La Brisa at Echo Beach.
  • The Fitness Circuit: Stay active with spinning at Zycle, yoga at Samadi or Serenity, or a serious lifting session at Body Factory. For something different, try kickboxing at Canggu Studios or a game of padel at Jungle Padel.
  • Surf & Sand: Catch a wave at Echo Beach, Batu Bolong, or Berawa. All three spots have plenty of board rentals and local instructors ready to help beginners.
  • Work from Paradise: If you need to stay productive, grab a seat at ZIN Cafe or the purpose-built Tribal coworking space.
  • Iconic Day Trip: Take a short drive north to visit the breathtaking Tanah Lot Temple, one of Bali's most sacred offshore shrines.
  • Unique Adventures:
    • Test your strength at Bali Climbing.
    • Skip the road traffic and take a scenic GoBoat.id ferry from Nelayan Beach directly to Uluwatu.
    • Have a family-friendly afternoon at Taman Segara Madu Water Park.

Top Cafes in Canggu

Perfect for a slow brunch or a post-surf caffeine hit:

  • Crate Cafe: Still the "coolest" spot in town. It’s famous for massive portions and a high-energy atmosphere. Tip: Arrive early to beat the morning rush, as the communal tables fill up fast.
  • Shady Shack: A must-visit for plant-based foodies. This garden-style cafe serves up vibrant vegetarian and vegan bowls—the Nori Bowl remains a legendary fan favorite.
  • Copenhagen: A unique Danish-inspired concept where you build your own breakfast board. Don't leave without trying their authentic rye bread or the fresh waffles.
  • Kynd Community: Now firmly established in Canggu, this pink-hued paradise offers some of the most aesthetic (and delicious) vegan bowls and smoothies on the island.

Top Restaurants in Canggu

For a sophisticated dinner or a "vibey" night out:

  • Skool Kitchen: An incredible culinary experience focused on "primitive" over-the-fire cooking. For the best seat in the house, sit at the kitchen counter to watch the chefs work the flames.
  • Mosto: This trendy natural wine bar perfectly blends an extensive wine list with innovative "East meets West" small plates—ideal for a social evening with friends.
  • Mason: A Canggu staple that continues to draw a hip, consistent crowd. Known for its wood-fired grill and cured meats; the roasted quail is highly recommended.

How to Get from Bali Airport to Canggu?

How to Get from Bali Airport to Canggu?

Getting from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) to Canggu is a journey of about 15–20 km. While the distance is short, traffic in areas like Kuta and Seminyak can be heavy, meaning the drive typically takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Here are the most reliable ways to make the trip:

Canggu Bali | Pre-Booked Private Transfer (Recommended)

Private transfer is generally the least stressful option. Your driver will meet you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, helping you avoid the "taxi vouchers" and crowds at the exit.

  • Cost: Approximately AUD $25 – $40 (around IDR 300,000 – 400,000).
  • Providers: Services like Trip.com, or local drivers (often reached via WhatsApp) are popular.
  • Perks: Fixed pricing, flight monitoring, and door-to-door service to your villa or hotel.

Canggu Bali | Grab or Gojek

Bali's equivalent to Uber or Lyft. Both apps have official lounges and pickup points at the airport.

  • Grab Lounge: Located in the International and Domestic arrival zones. Staff there can help you book if you don't have the app ready.
  • Pickup Point: Usually requires a short walk to the "Grab Lounge" or the "Domestic Parking Building" (3rd Floor).
  • Cost: Roughly AUD $30 – $45 (IDR 310,000 – 450,000). Prices fluctuate based on demand.
  • Note: Fares from the airport are higher than standard city rates due to airport surcharges.

Canggu Bali | Airport Taxis

You can find the official taxi desk just outside the arrivals hall.

  • Pre-paid: You pay a fixed price at the counter based on your destination zone in Canggu.
  • Metered: Bluebird taxis are the most reputable metered option, though they can sometimes be harder to find right at the arrivals curb compared to the fixed-rate drivers.
  • Cost: Expect to pay around AUD $30 – $40 (IDR 300,000 – 400,000).

I had a wonderful stay at The Face Suites. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a beautiful city view. It felt more like staying in a luxury apartment than a hotel, which was perfect for relaxing. The location is excellent, very convenient and close to many attractions. The highlight of the stay was definitely the rooftop infinity pool — the view is stunning, especially at night. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the check-in process was smooth. Overall, it was great value for money, and I truly enjoyed my stay. I would definitely recommend The Face Suites and would love to stay here again.

Ended up staying at this hotel by chance, and I must say, it was a really good experience. The only minor downside was that it was on a very high floor. The stay itself, including the breakfast, was fantastic and very substantial. The staff did an excellent job cleaning the room. Plus, it's only about 500 meters from the Petronas Towers. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied.

The way to parking is a bit complicated but the parking fee is RM10 per stay (it is cheap compare to other hotels). Parking lot is spacious. The valet/security are very polite and always greeting us every day. The room is spacious but we did not get the capsule coffee on our second night. Perhaps now is low season so we were few of the Asian customers, all other guests were from oversea. Quite interesting. Haha. There are some restaurants at the opposite of the hotel and nearby in walking distance. We will stay again if there is a promotion.

Traveling to Kuala Lumpur for Chinese New Year, I saw a lot of good reviews on Trip.com and booked a 4-night stay. On the very first day, there was a power outage. I woke up at 3 AM because of the heat. The next day, after being out all day, I returned to a completely dark hotel lobby – no electricity. My room had power, but no hot water. After a long day of sightseeing, I couldn't shower. I was too tired, so I just went to sleep, and finally had hot water in the morning. On the third day, I came back again to no hot water. When I asked the front desk, they said it would be an hour until it came back on. I was so annoyed and hung up. Luckily, Trip.com's international team was constantly helping me communicate. Thankfully, it didn't completely ruin my trip, but it did make the vacation a bit unpleasant. Trip.com told me they'd never encountered this situation before, but it definitely happened to me.

Second stay at PARKROYAL COLLECTION and still impressed This was my second time staying at PARKROYAL COLLECTION. Initially, there was an issue with the first room I was assigned, as the bathroom window did not have fully covered blinds, which raised privacy concerns. After I informed the front desk, they listened attentively and changed my room immediately. I truly appreciate their prompt response and hospitality in addressing the matter so efficiently. Grateful for the excellent service and care shown during my stay.

It is 4 star hotel but the stay that I had was not up to that par. Our toilet seat has stain, and the shower room is smelly when we used the shower. The water spray is way too strong that we have to call them to fix on it. The sound proof is not good, you can hear people around you and the hotel staff did not come and warn them to lower the noise. They also didn’t have bell boy who can assist, probably work on shift hour.  Although I have a great service with them for room service, however the cleanlines and the noise experience that I had, made me not to come back to this hotel again.

As a five-star hotel, it's not perfect, but given the great price, it's acceptable. The beach is just a few steps from the hotel's pool, and it seems to be a public one, as there's a boardwalk along the entire waterfront, perfect for a stroll. There are plenty of lounge chairs by the sea, and the sand is nice. However, the beach isn't ideal for swimming, though you can still take a dip if you want to.

Ah, ”Eden Hotel” in Bali! It seems you're likely referring to one of the Grandmas Plus Hotels in Bali, specifically Grandmas Plus Hotel Seminyak or Grandmas Plus Hotel Airport. They are popular budget-friendly options in Bali. To give you a good review, I can summarize what people generally say about them, but if you stayed at a specific Grandmas Plus Hotel, let me know which one (e.g., Seminyak, Airport, Legian), and I can tailor the review even more. Here's a general overview of what people often say about Grandmas Plus Hotels in Bali, combining common feedback: Grandmas Plus Hotels, Bali (General Review) Overall Impression: Generally, Grandmas Plus Hotels are well-regarded as excellent value-for-money options, especially for budget travelers, solo travelers, and those looking for a convenient location. They often receive high ratings for their service and cleanliness. What people like most: * Excellent Location: This is a consistent highlight. * Seminyak: Very close to Seminyak Beach (often cited as a 5-minute walk) and within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and bars. This makes it ideal for those wanting to explore the vibrant Seminyak area. * Airport: Convenient for early flights or quick stopovers due to its proximity to the airport. * Friendly and Helpful Staff: Many guests praise the staff for being amicable, attentive, and going out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. They often mention the staff's smiles and willingness to help. * Cleanliness: The rooms and common areas are consistently described as sparkling clean and well-maintained. * Value for Money: Guests frequently mention that the price paid for the amenities and location is a great deal. * Breakfast: Often receives positive remarks for being good, and sometimes even offering a ”different gourmet food selection” daily. * Amenities: While generally basic, they offer essential amenities. Some locations have a pool, and many have a connected restaurant/bar. In-house spas are also mentioned as a plus. * Comfort Rooms (after checkout): Some hotels in the chain offer a ”comfort room” which is a nice touch for guests with later flights. What people like least (or areas for improvement): * Room Size: A very common comment is that the rooms can be ”compact,” ”small,” or ”cramped,” especially for families. While well-designed and clean, they might feel a bit tight for some. * Noise: Depending on the room location, street noise, music, or bar noises can be audible, especially in Seminyak, which is a lively area. * Bathroom Ventilation/Issues: Some reviews mention a lack of exhaust fans in bathrooms, or occasional issues like drainage smells or spots on tiles. * Pool Size/Quality: For the Seminyak location, the pool is sometimes described as ”tiny” or ”very poor” and can get crowded. * Limited Amenities: While good for the price, some guests might miss certain features like mini-fridges or electric kettles in the rooms (though free mineral water is usually provided). Would I recommend this hotel? Based on common reviews, yes, I would recommend Grandmas Plus Hotels, especially if you are: * A budget-conscious traveler. * Looking for a hotel with an excellent, central location (Seminyak) or close to the airport. * Prioritizing friendly service and cleanliness over spacious rooms or extensive luxury amenities. * Traveling solo or as a couple (larger groups or families might find rooms a bit small). They are often described as a great base for exploring Bali, offering a comfortable and practical stay without a hefty price tag.

This hotel is located in a bustling area of Kuta, just over a ten-minute drive from the airport. The buildings are arranged around a spacious and beautiful courtyard with three pools, perfect for Western vacationers. The breakfast at the restaurant is good. The rooms are spacious, and the bathrooms are enormous. The hotel offers a peaceful retreat despite being in a lively area, and the price is reasonable. The front desk and room service staff are proactive and friendly. There are numerous dining and shopping options right outside the hotel.

Breakfast

Kuala Lumpur City Centre Kuala Lumpur|0.86km from downtown
I booked the Sky Suite for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day quite a while in advance. The room was spacious, and both the bedroom and living room offered views of the Petronas Towers. However, the room windows were quite dirty, which made photos turn out poorly. The cleanliness was excellent, and there was plenty of bottled water in the room. We received welcome fruit, but it wasn't provided daily. If the hotel were more thoughtful, they could have offered something like sweet soup on subsequent days, as we couldn't finish the fruit. The room rate was quite high; at 6,000 a day, it felt a bit overpriced. We stayed for three consecutive days and didn't even receive a souvenir. The essential oil in the room smelled nice, and I particularly liked the scent of the essential oil in the hallway. Here are a few areas that need improvement: 1. The air conditioning was too cold and couldn't be adjusted above 24 degrees Celsius. 2. The faucet in the sink had no buffer, so water would splash all over you as soon as you turned it on. 3. The main bathroom light was linked to the exhaust fan, which was incredibly loud. Any time you needed more light, the exhaust fan would also turn on, creating a lot of noise. 4. Room soundproofing was poor; we could hear noise from both the hallway and the bar upstairs. 5. The duvet was too thin, and because the air conditioning was so cold, we froze at night. The swimming pool was nice, but there was only one changing room. I'd recommend changing in your room before going for a swim. The rooftop bar charged 1200 MYR for two people on New Year's Eve, and the fireworks were terrible. Overall, this hotel offers very poor value for money.

Good location, be able to walk to Jalan Alor and Bukit Bintang easily. However, during my stay there was bad smell in my room assumed that from the carpet. My last night, there is some smoking scent which I guess the beside room was smoking and the scent is from bathroom duct. The most terrible thing is that there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Anyway I paid considerably low price, so it’s one of the choice for who don’t expect much.

Our short stay at the hotel suddenly turned into an unexpected satisfaction. Before booking this accommodation I read many positive comments, words of appreciation, recommendations, and must say the truth we were not disappointed. Even more, this simple hotel gave us a feeling of home, cosy warm home. Firstly, it’s welcome hospitality and friendly attitude, same like we come to see our old friend at his place😊. Secondly, the room is not huge, but very got all you need including peace of mind. Thirdly, the location is perfect, any direction you go you’ll enjoy your time on the road , walking or transiting. The hotel is definitely worth it’s value and for couples is a great place to stay and explore the capital👍👍👍

I recently stayed at Momo's KL and had a unique experience that I appreciated, but there were a few aspects I wish could be improved. The bunkies were definitely a highlight! They offered a cozy and fun way to enjoy the hostel experience, with a modern twist. I loved the design and the overall vibe of the place, which made it a welcoming spot for travelers. However, the noise levels were a significant downside. The sound of flushing from the bathrooms was quite audible, which could be disruptive at times. Additionally, being located near the street meant that outside noise filtered in, making it challenging to get a good night’s sleep. Another issue was the proximity of one of the rooms to the speaker by the check-in area. If you’re someone who enjoys a good beat, it might be fine; however, for those looking for peace and quiet, be prepared to be woken up by music. In summary, while Momo's KL has a great atmosphere and unique bunkies that I enjoyed, the noise issues, both from the bathrooms and the street, along with the music from the check-in area, may detract from the overall experience for some guests. It’s a fun spot for social travelers, but if you're looking for tranquility, you might want to consider that!
