Taronga Zoo Sydney
The tickets booked on Ctrip are affordable. There are many different kinds of animals in the zoo. The experience is great. It is worthy of being the most beautiful zoo in the southern hemisphere. The only regret is that I didn't find a platypus in the platypus exhibition area.

Planning Your Trip to Taronga Zoo Sydney
1. Getting There (Ferry is Best!)
- By Ferry: Take the F2 Taronga Zoo ferry from Circular Quay (Wharf 2). It's the most scenic way to arrive (think epic harbour views!) and takes about 12 minutes. The zoo entrance is a short uphill walk or a quick FREE shuttle bus ride from the ferry terminal. Ferries run frequently.
- By Bus: Regular buses (Route 238, 247) run from Wynyard Station (Clarence St, Stand N) directly to the zoo's main entrance. Check Transport NSW for timetables.
- By Car: Driving is an option, but parking is expensive ($20/day for non-members) and fills up fast, especially on weekends and holidays. Half-price parking is a major perk of membership.
2. Tickets & Saving Money
- Buy Online: Always book your tickets online in advance. It's cheaper than paying at the gate and guarantees entry on busy days. Family tickets are available too.
- Check Concessions: Discounted tickets are available for seniors, students, pensioners, etc. You'll need valid ID.
- Infants (0-4): Free entry.
- Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Diners accepted. Be aware of small card fees: Visa (0.87%), Mastercard (0.74%), Amex (1.55%), Diners (1.5%). Zip payment ($10/week) is available.
- Membership: If you might visit more than twice in a year (or visit Dubbo too), membership pays for itself. It includes unlimited entry to Sydney & Dubbo zoos, free partner zoo entry, half-price parking, discounts at shops/cafes, and event perks.
3. When to Go & What to Bring
- Best Time: Arrive early (around opening) to see animals at their most active before crowds build. Allow at least 4-5 hours for a good visit. Aim for weekdays or less crowded winter months if possible. Rainy days can be quieter and many animals enjoy the cooler weather!
- What to Pack: Comfortable shoes (lots of hills & walking!), hat, sunscreen, water bottle (refill stations available), camera. Don't forget any necessary medications. Pack your own snacks/lunch to save money, though there are cafes (members get discounts!).
4. Planning Your Day
- Download the Map: Grab the official zoo map online or get a paper copy when you arrive. Plan your must-sees. .
5. At the Zoo
- Food: Cafes, kiosks, and sit-down restaurants are available. The View restaurant has fantastic harbour views (bookings recommended for dinner/events). Prices are typical for major attractions – packing lunch saves cash.
- Facilities: Accessible pathways, toilets, baby change rooms, parent rooms, lockers, first aid points, free wifi near cafes and the entrance.
- Be Respectful: Follow keeper instructions, don't tap on glass, never feed the animals, respect barriers, and keep noise levels down.
6. Getting There & Car Hire
Ferry (Best Option):
Hop on the F2 Taronga ferry at Circular Quay (Wharf 2). 12-min ride with Opera House + Bridge views → FREE shuttle bus uphill to zoo gates.
Driving:
- Parking: Non-members pay $20/day (limited spots; arrive before 10am).
- Rental Tip: If hiring a car (Hertz/Europcar CBD), skip zoo parking headaches → park at Milsons Point ($15/day) and ferry across.
