Cheap Hotels in Datong

"A rather mediocre experience. I've been a Ctrip member for 15 years and rarely leave bad reviews, so I'll give this a passing grade of 3.0. The main reasons for the average experience were: 1. My baby had a fever in the middle of the night and couldn't get up the next day. I wanted to take some breakfast back to the room, but they wouldn't allow it, and the staff's attitude was quite stiff. At over 1700 RMB for two nights for three adults and one child, the price wasn't cheap. Since the hotel couldn't be understanding towards me, I can't be understanding towards them in my rating. 2. There must be floor heating or central air conditioning, because the room was extremely dry, even drier than indoors in Beijing during the heating season."

"The environment is quite good, and the amenities in the room, such as the smart speaker system throughout and the smart toilet, are very convenient. However, the service doesn't match the environment. Breakfast was chaotic; there was no one to guide us to a table, and we couldn't find chopsticks until we asked for them. They mentioned complimentary bathhouse and swimming tickets, but the women's area in the basement only has a pool for swimming. The 'bathhouse' consists of just two bathtubs, which require an extra charge to use. It's quite pointless; they might as well just say there's a swimming pool. The Fenglin Pavilion restaurant on the first floor is excellent."

"Stepping into Datong Ancient City in the afternoon, the first pleasant surprise was stumbling upon Renyi Inn. The inn's antique courtyard, adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and warm red lanterns, instantly brought a sense of calm. The family who runs the inn is incredibly humble and kind, their conversations warm and thoughtful, making you feel right at home. What's even more admirable is their exceptional care for animals; the inn is like a mini-zoo. They treat every little creature with gentleness and patience, which in turn fills the entire courtyard with life and spirit. Upon entering, a majestic grey parrot, both poised and lively, greeted me from the front desk – I'd never seen such a large pet parrot before! Two smaller parrots chirped happily nearby, completely unafraid of strangers, lively and adorable. Outside my room was a small courtyard with two tea tables. After a 'special forces'-style day of temple hopping, when I was tired to the point of tears, sitting there enjoying a cup of tea was incredibly relaxing. In the adjacent fish pond, a dozen or so vibrant koi, each weighing at least two to three pounds, swam gracefully, their bodies stretching elegantly. Next to the pond, a large and a small tortoise slowly ambled, quiet and therapeutic. In a corner cage, a tiny grey squirrel darted around, agile and playful. As dusk fell, watching the lights reflect on the pond and listening to the soft sounds of the small animals, the weariness of travel seemed to melt away in this gentle atmosphere, leaving my heart filled with peace and healing. I thought this wonderful experience was complete, but to my surprise, a new delight awaited me the next morning – two peacocks, 'Wenqing' (blue and white) and 'Xiaofeng' (emerald green), strolled leisurely in the courtyard with their magnificent tails fanned out – yes, they even have names! The eye-spots on their tail feathers shimmered, as if they were wearing the entire starry sky, beautiful like something straight out of an ancient painting. For a moment, I couldn't tell if I was in an inn or a secret wonderland. Renyi Inn is far more than just a place to stay; it's a hidden gem within the ancient city. The harmonious coexistence of people and animals creates a warm and healing atmosphere, adding countless gentle and delightful moments to this journey."

"What a pleasant surprise this stay was! (´▽`) The location is excellent, right next to the district government and very close to the ancient city, making it super convenient for getting around. There's a delicious knife-cut noodle place nearby that opens at 6:30 AM, and the Tangjiu convenience store next door also opens early. The first floor has a lovely book bar where you can borrow books for free, and they serve coffee and cocktails – perfect for enjoying a drink while reading. So many interesting books too! I also really loved their decor; the tatami mat rooms have a dedicated reading table, and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The disposable amenities were comprehensive, and that horse oil toiletries set left me feeling moisturized inside and out (in a good way!). What really stood out during my stay were the front desk ladies. They were all so wonderful, always greeting us warmly when we returned. Their service was incredibly attentive and so heartwarming! 🥺 Any request we had was met quickly. Thanks to them, I've been sleeping so well these past few days 555. I really don't want to leave! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong. I've already highly recommended it to all my friends! (￣∇￣)"

"I saw a lot of people complaining that Datong hotels couldn't keep up with the service, so I didn't have high expectations. Surprisingly, I found the service to be excellent. There was a genuine, rustic desire to be good to tourists, sometimes a bit overzealous and awkward, but incredibly sincere and charming. Overall, my stay was fantastic, and it offered great value for money. The little details in the room were well done. Toiletries were provided at both the sink and in the shower. Important tips and services were clearly written and prominently displayed in the room. This is the first hotel I've seen that even offers to change to a firmer mattress! The fresh fruit and vegetables delivered daily were so fresh that I felt bad for not eating them and ended up forcing myself to eat two pieces of fruit. You absolutely *must* try the pear soup the hotel delivers in the evenings. On the first night, I was a bit skeptical, thinking, 'Who drinks something so sweet late at night? Why pear soup?' But on the second morning, when I got a nosebleed, I immediately understood... I promptly asked for a bottle and chugged it down; the effect was instant. The hotel's large floor-to-ceiling windows offered a great view, with the ancient city and Drum Tower visible right opposite. If I had to point out any areas for improvement, it would be the lack of a small shelf near the toilet paper dispenser in the bathroom, so there's nowhere to put your phone, which is a bit inconvenient. Also, the air conditioning was very noisy and seemed to stop cooling in the middle of the night. It got to the point where I'd wake up in the late hours and have to turn it off because it was just making noise, which was quite annoying."

"My child absolutely loved this room! Besides being spacious, it was incredibly well-equipped. They even provided free earplugs and makeup remover wipes, not to mention complimentary tricycles and bicycles for exploring the ancient city. It was very quiet at night, making for a peaceful sleep. And the front desk staff? Their service was exceptional – truly made our stay comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast, served on a street in the ancient city, was just a few hundred meters away."

"The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance to the center of Datong Ancient City. Fahua Temple, Nine-Dragon Wall, and Huayan Temple are all nearby. Kailu Restaurant inside the ancient city is quite good, while Fengling Pavilion is just okay. The room is spacious and very clean, and they even provided 2 complimentary drinks in the fridge. There's an underground parking garage with free parking; just scan a code when you leave. I personally really enjoyed the lamb offal soup with rice noodles for breakfast, ordered it two days in a row. The fruit was fresh and tasty. If you like street food, there's plenty right across the road, and it seemed quite popular. Overall, highly recommended."

"I was very satisfied with this guesthouse. The community is new, lively yet quiet. Right outside the complex is Dongnan Yi, but it's very peaceful inside. The room is large, the windows are big, and it's clean. The service gets full marks – they offer station transfers and the breakfast is plentiful. The facilities are comprehensive, even including video memberships so you can watch VIP TV series and variety shows freely. The shower has great water pressure. The bed is firmer than other hotels, which I prefer as it's good for my back. I originally planned to book for two nights to try it out, but when I wanted to extend my stay, it was already fully booked. I tried other places at the same price point, but I kept thinking about how good this one was. I hope they continue to maintain their high quality, because my mom said she wants to stay here again next time, haha."

"I stumbled upon this hotel and my experience was absolutely fantastic. The overall decor is stylish and creates a wonderful ambiance. My room had a great view, was beautifully furnished, and paid attention to every detail. The cleanliness was impeccable; everything was spotless, and the bedding was soft and skin-friendly, making for an excellent night's sleep. The staff were friendly and provided thoughtful, attentive service, making me feel very welcome. The surrounding scenery and amenities are also great, perfect for a leisurely stroll. From the environment and service to the facilities, I couldn't find a single flaw. I had a truly pleasant stay and it's definitely on my re-book list!"

"A very comfortable and satisfying hotel. I'll definitely stay here again when I revisit Datong! First, let's talk about the location. It's right next to the ancient city, so you can easily walk around and explore. I specifically requested a room with a view of the ancient city, and the night view was lovely. It's also very close to the scenic spot shuttle bus stop, making it super convenient to get to the Yungang Grottoes, Hanging Temple, and other attractions. Parking is easy, which is great for those arriving by car. You can park at the hotel and then comfortably walk around the ancient city or take the shuttle bus to Datong's famous surrounding attractions. The hotel staff were professional and enthusiastic, especially the lobby manager who was incredibly warm and helpful, offering excellent professional guidance for touring. Many thanks to them. By the way, the food, entertainment, and ancient architecture in Datong Ancient City are truly fantastic – I need to come back!"
