"My biggest surprise on this trip to Datong was definitely this hotel. As a hotel enthusiast, I really couldn't find much to fault (though the pool water wasn't quite warm enough – a minor imperfection, I suppose). First off, the location is superb, right by the ancient city wall. You step out and the city wall is right across the street, and Southeast Yip is just next door. Taking a stroll in the evening couldn't be more convenient! Everything is close by, and getting a taxi is easy. Secondly, the hotel itself is stunning and impeccably clean, perfect for photos. The hotel feels like a work of art, beautifully designed, blending classical aesthetics with modern design. It also does an excellent job of protecting guest privacy; outside photographers can't just wander in. It's incredibly tranquil; even though it's fully booked every day, you rarely run into other guests, offering great privacy. I slept wonderfully. Then there are the top-tier amenities. All the luxuries you'd expect from a high-end hotel are here. Everything in the minibar, except for the red wine, is complimentary – there's so much you can't possibly drink it all. Every day, they offer different fresh fruits, nuts, and a goodnight dessert, plus complimentary coffee. The complimentary afternoon tea is very generous and aesthetically pleasing. The breakfast selection is extensive and delicious! And the service, it's simply outstanding, scoring almost full marks for attention to detail. There are plenty of staff members, and they respond incredibly quickly. They even deliver takeout to your room. If I had to pick a flaw, it's that it's quite expensive. But overall, it was definitely worth it. If I come to Datong again, I'd choose this hotel without hesitation."

"The room at this hotel was really nice! 😍 The bedding was comfortable, and the environment was elegant. The service was also very attentive, making me feel right at home. I highly recommend it to everyone. The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Yungang Grottoes are definitely worth visiting. I love Shanxi! 🥰"

"This was my favorite hotel on this trip. First, upon arriving at the hotel parking area, a friendly and smiling uncle from the hotel parking lot enthusiastically guided us to a spot. We wanted to fast charge our car, so we parked in the fast-charging area (Yabei something parking zone). The staff at the Yabei parking area, who are not hotel employees, were very unfriendly. They said we could charge but to move the car quickly after it was done. We experienced being shooed away by that staff member twice in one day while charging, and he even warned us that if we didn't move the car after charging, he would lock it. I asked the uncle at the hotel's parking area, and he said it was fine to move the car after charging, and that the hotel has plenty of parking spaces. He also mentioned that the staff member didn't bother with gasoline cars occupying charging spots. During check-in, I didn't want to go out for takeout that evening and wanted to find a chair. I called the front desk, and it was an automated voice. A Datang staff member called me back to verify and then delivered the item. After dinner, my child wanted to go to the pool. We arrived at the pool around 9 PM. I asked to borrow a swimming ring inflator. The front desk staff said there was no need to inflate it, as we wouldn't be able to play for long because it was closing soon. It seemed like they didn't really want us to go in. I said, ”Isn't it open until 10?” She said the pool needed to be cleaned and we wouldn't be able to play for more than a few minutes, though she did lend me the inflator. I ignored her and took my child to the pool. The staff inside the pool didn't shoo us away. We played for about 30 minutes, and around 9:45 PM, the pool staff said they needed to clean the pool and to come back tomorrow. So we went back to our room. Overall, the stay was a good experience. The staff were generally friendly. It would be better if the hotel's own fast-charging area and pool clearly stated their operating hours and closing times."

"This was my first time in Datong, and I have no regrets about my choice. As Datong's renowned five-star hotel, everything was perfect, except for the slightly outdated facilities and lack of smart technology. The service was exceptional, and the breakfast was plentiful. A pleasant surprise was the bathhouse on the fifth floor, which was great for unwinding after a long day. Fresh fruit was provided daily, and the mini-fridge had complimentary drinks. My two daughters absolutely loved the LOFT room type, and the soundproofing was excellent. The hotel's Chinese restaurant was also fantastic, with delicious food at reasonable prices – a great option for dinner when returning to the hotel feeling tired. The location is also superb, within walking distance of the Ancient City, Parkson, and Xingmao Hui. While I might try other hotels next time, Yungang Jianguo Hotel has left a deep impression on me. I would definitely recommend it to friends."

"I read a lot of reviews beforehand, which mostly mentioned terrible room conditions and unhelpful front desk staff. This prepared me for the worst, but when we arrived in the early hours of the morning, the staff member at the front desk was incredibly kind and friendly. We're a family of four, and they proactively upgraded our room. We had originally booked a Cloud Elegant Twin Room with two 1.35m beds, but they upgraded us to a Cloud Family Room with two 1.5m beds – what a pleasant surprise! We're so grateful. The room size is already quite generous, and both the indoor and outdoor environments are very quiet. The interior decor, even down to the corners, isn't as bad as some reviews suggested. As for the issue of yellow water, I didn't experience it during my two-night stay. The breakfast area is very nice, with a wide variety of dishes, including Shanxi specialties, and the food tastes good."

"Environment: The hotel environment is excellent, the rooms are spacious, and the public areas are clean. There are many elevators, so you don't have to wait long. Service: I have to give a super good review to the hotel staff. They helped with our luggage, and the front desk staff were patient and gentle. Simply fantastic!! Facilities: The hotel houses Fenglin Pavilion restaurant, so you can enjoy Shanxi specialty dishes right on site, which is very convenient! The swimming pool water is also very clean! If I ever get to visit Datong again, I'll definitely choose this hotel!"

"The room was great, on the 21st floor, directly facing Yongtai Gate, offering a good view of the ancient city's layout. They also provided 4 bottles of high-quality spring water in the room. Breakfast was rich, including Cantonese options. On the day we left, we asked the front desk for a late check-out until 3 PM, and they agreed. Even though it's an older five-star hotel, it still maintains its quality. Very good. And it's convenient to get to the ancient city."

"I forgot to leave a review before, but even though the facilities aren't top-notch, the environment was quite peaceful. I'm not sure if it was because I requested a quiet room when booking, but our three rooms were on a floor where there were indeed no noisy drunkards or unruly children. Being able to get a good rest makes it a decent hotel. Some hotels, despite having great facilities, have terrible management, which is pointless... Breakfast was average; the lamb offal soup was pretty good, but you can't expect too much from breakfast at this level of hotel. Both service and breakfast were pretty standard, and overall, it wasn't a rip-off."

"The hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. The hotel is very clean, the restaurant food is delicious, and the staff provide excellent service. As I was traveling alone and wanted to try local specialties, the staff kindly reduced the portion sizes, which was great – tasty and no waste! The room facilities are new, but there's a minor issue: the sink and shower are in separate areas, and the bath towels are kept under the sink. This makes it inconvenient to grab a towel after showering. If you take it into the shower beforehand, there's nowhere to hang it. Perhaps a hook could be added?"

"The rooms and bedding are up to the usual Intercity standard, which is fine. However, the service was really poor. To be honest, I stayed for two nights; the first night was over 700 yuan, and the second was over 600 yuan. I understand it's a holiday, but for that price, I expect at least the same level of service as a normal season hotel like All Seasons or Crystal, which cost only 200-300 yuan. Instead, I paid that much and still had to put up with the front desk's attitude. I checked in on the afternoon of the 19th. The oldest lady at the front desk – why should I have to deal with her attitude when I'm paying to stay here? I had already specified in my booking not to have a room at either end of the hallway, but she assigned me one right next to the elevator. She told me it was an upgrade, and I initially agreed. But after being in the room for a minute, I was so worried about the noise that I went back down to tell her I didn't want the upgrade and preferred a standard room, as long as it wasn't at either end. Her face immediately dropped, and she started ignoring me, refusing to talk to me. She then had a younger girl help me. That's when I realized the room I originally booked wasn't available. After waiting a while, they finally found another room at the other end of the hall, at least not right next to the elevator. I just accepted it. The next night, she was on the night shift. They were all sitting there, laughing and chatting, I don't know what they were doing. I went over and asked if the bar's beer was drinkable. One staff member told me it was out of order, even though the day before, we both heard another guest being told it was fine to drink. I thought I'd just try it out once since I was checking out the next morning. It was very disappointing. I've stayed at Intercity hotels in other cities before, and the service was never like this. It's a holiday, and I understand you're busy. But I've paid good money, so why do I have to put up with your attitude? Oh, and when I checked out, another staff member took my room card without even looking up. She asked how my stay was, and I said it was okay. She just said 'good' and that was it, still without looking up. They didn't even offer a bottle of water, let alone a farewell. Oh, and the second day we went out, the cleaning staff who tidied our room didn't restock the drinks in the fridge. I called the front desk, and they said they'd bring them up. A little while later, the cleaning staff knocked on the door and said they forgot to put them in. Throughout all this, no one seemed apologetic, and I didn't even get an 'I'm sorry.' In the bathroom, the sensor light was full of dust, and there was something black on the round hole above the sink, I don't know what it was. I found it disgusting. I saw it as soon as I looked down and wiped it off myself."
