"For what we wanted this hotel met our needs. A 10 minute stroll into the main town wasn’t an issue and was an easy pleasant walk. For the 3 nights we were there the room was clean, well maintained with beds made every day and towels replaced each day. A balcony allowed us to sit outside. Don’t book expecting 5 star luxury but the manager and staff were always on hand to help and went out of their way to do so. Breakfast was what we expected with enough choice, all food was good quality. Don’t expect a full cooked breakfast."

"A beautiful hotel, well located in Chinon, slightly out the centre (a 5 minute walk) which means that parking is easy to find. Beautiful decor, comfortable beds and exceptionally polite and helpful hosts. I would definitely return if I were to go back to Chinon."

"Warm welcome and check-in by a very kind gentleman. Medium-small sized room with dated but well-preserved furniture. Our friends' room was very small, without a wardrobe and the shower was "closed" by a curtain! So be careful which room you are assigned. Comfortable bed. Clean rooms even if there was a constant "stale" smell in the room, probably due to the carpet. Bathroom needs fixing in some details such as the shower head was not still, it slipped downwards, some chipped tiles, etc. Shampoo and shower gel given with an eyedropper. No hair dryer in the room. Only sweet foods for breakfast. Sore point especially for older people: no lift and a narrow wooden spiral staircase. Positive: free private parking. Overall good value for money."

"Stayed here as part of a cycle trip along Loire. The hosts were very helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Room decorated in beautiful French style and very clean. No air-conditioning but excellent fan! Breakfast very fresh and tasty and they started serving at 7:15, which suited us perfectly. It was the best room / stay we had during our entire trip - just a shame it was only one night."

Best Western Hotel de France

"Unfortunately, the Best Western Hotel in Chinon is a scam that clearly needs to charge for services not provided. We couldn't park in the adjacent parking lot because our vehicle, a Ford Tourneo with a roof box, wouldn't fit through the gate. There was no other parking space nearby. We couldn't even park the vehicle briefly in front of the hotel to unload our luggage. The hotel employee couldn't help us in any way; she was simply overwhelmed and helpless. She offered us a free cancellation, which we reluctantly accepted. We had to go to the trouble of finding an alternative and forgo dinner and amenities. To my surprise, we then discovered that our prepayment, which had been made weeks before, was not refundable. Contacting trip.com and the hotel revealed that suddenly no one knew anything about a free cancellation and that we definitely wouldn't get our money back. We were also lied to on the phone and in writing. Since this is simply fraud, I cannot accept this kind of behavior and must therefore urgently warn travelers. I have never experienced anything so outrageous in my life: being lied to and cheated out of my money like this. The hotel management can only rip off guests like this with the appropriate criminal intent! Therefore, the highest warning level: avoid this hotel!"

Au Relais Saint Maurice

"We have now stayed here on 5 separate occasions in 4 different rooms. Always superb and it keeps getting better. The medieval house is beautifully restored in a lovely street, just up from the riverside, just below the chateau and a few minutes walk from some superb restaurants. The rooms are huge, comfortable, full of character and stuffed full with quirky little objects and pictures. The bathrooms are also huge and characterful but with modern fittings. The breakfasts, served in the lovely dining room are a sumptuous banquet. Everything you could possibly want. Scrambled egg, sausages, grilled tomatoes, smoked salmon, hams, cheeses, pancakes, quiche, cereals, a beautiful array of different breads and brioche, home made jams, home made cakes and croissants, even home made yogurt. And then of course, there is Maurice. Charming, amusing, helpful, informative, Maurice is the perfect host who goes the extra mile to make you feel like a welcome and treasured guest. Apart from help with cleaning the rooms, he appears to run the place single handedly, even down to making the cakes, the croissants and the yogurts himself. He also provides you with a parking permit, allowing for free parking by the riverside, just a minutes walk away. Having stayed in many different places in France, this is the best and better than any five star hotels, with the best breakfasts in France as well! We may have stayed here 5 times, but we'll definitely be back for a sixth!"
