I took advantage of the holiday to finally visit this pioneer of China's star-rated hotels, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Firstly, I really loved the ambiance here; it boasts a profound sense of history without showing its age or any significant 'defects.' Secondly, the service was absolutely impeccable. Everyone, from the lovely lady at the front desk to the room service and the staff serving morning tea at the restaurant, made me feel incredibly welcome and comfortable.

I absolutely have to give a huge shout-out to the hotel's breakfast – it was truly fantastic! The breakfast restaurant even boasts an outdoor seating area, which is perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. The dining tables were exquisitely set, and the delightful orange decor, known to stimulate appetite, was a wonderful touch. And, of course, the breakfast itself was incredibly delicious.

Dong Fang Hotel in Guangzhou is nicely located, large and grand, with spacious rooms, good gardens/pool, and very helpful staff. It’s a solid 5-star classic — slightly dated in parts (old carpets, outdated décor), WiFi sometimes spotty — but good value if you like hotels with character and history.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, right next to Liuhua Lake Park and directly opposite Liuhua Center. While many areas of the room show their age, they are still relatively clean. The service is quite good, and plenty of bottled mineral water is supplied daily, which is very convenient. Breakfast can get crowded on weekends or during exhibitions, but on weekdays, it's quiet and pleasant. The lobby is very spacious, and the inner courtyard garden is beautifully landscaped and thoughtfully laid out. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor pool. The gym, located on B1 level below the pool, appears to have originally been a squash court; it lacks windows and has limited equipment. The hotel's entrance area is also very spacious, featuring a grand fountain and impressive water features. Thumbs up!

A historic gem with an antique charm and timeless five-star quality. The sheer scale of the hotel, with its expansive grounds and gardens, truly sets it apart from contemporary five-star establishments. Every piece of furniture and decor reflects a rich history and heritage; indeed, much of the hotel's furnishings are adorned with natural marble and precious woods. The gilded 'Dong Fang Hotel' signboard itself carries a prestige that not every visitor might fully appreciate. The rooms are exceptionally spacious, and the bathrooms are generously sized. The carpets throughout are also among the best maintained I've encountered in any four or five-star hotel I've stayed in. The curtains are fresh and clean, and the room's arrangement is aesthetically pleasing. My stay here was simply wonderful. As my work requires me to stay connected and up-to-date with the outside world, I found all my informational needs met here. With the hotel's own restaurants, you'll have no need to venture out for meals. The fitness center, outdoor gardens, and swimming pool offer perfect opportunities for body and mind relaxation. Guests can also visit the nearby Beiyuan Restaurant for an authentic 'Old Guangzhou' tea experience. On weekends, Yuntai Garden is a great option, followed by a leisurely cable car ride up Baiyun Mountain for some fresh air and a walk. On the way down, be sure to try Shahe noodles, a local dish of intangible cultural heritage. Lastly, every member of the hotel staff was incredibly polite and courteous.

I recently stayed at 广州东方酒店 and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped — I truly loved it. I want to especially thank the front desk staff member 林小丹 (Lin Xiaodan) for her exceptional service. She was friendly, professional, and always willing to help, which made my stay even more pleasant. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Guangzhou!

Though the hotel is more than 50 years, I was surprised the room is well maintained and furnished. Beds and pillows are very comfortable, room is big and has great open view. Location is great, very close by 2 subway lines.

This is a well-established international hotel in the area. When I was booking, I debated between staying here, China Hotel, and Dongfang Hotel. The hotel's pool has a Southeast Asian vibe. Although it's an outdoor pool, the water quality was poor, with leaves and many dead bugs in it. The room was spacious, and the view was pleasant. With two subway entrances/exits at the front and back of the hotel, transportation was incredibly convenient. Liuhua Lake Park is directly across the street, and there are plenty of dining options and attractions nearby. Most places of interest are within a 3-5 km radius, making it well worth a second visit. My only suggestion is that the bathroom lighting was too dim, making it difficult to apply makeup.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent Stay! We stayed 3 nights at Dongfang Hotel and loved everything — the staff were kind and professional, the location was perfect, the buffet was delicious, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. A great experience overall. Highly recommend!

the hotel very good facility is very good the location is great near subway station services good clean is good I would like to come again to stay same hotel for next time .toilet great only one problem they not use water bidet on toilet that's things I don't like .

As a family of 4 we had an amazing stay. It was my wife’s birthday and Melvin from the front desk had organised to send up a cake. We loved the spaciousness of the room, the location and the very comfortable beds. The cleaners were amazing and made our stay wonderful, they made us feel happy and relaxed during our time. The pool was massive and really lovely. Across the road there is a mall with a range of food options. We thank Melvin and Carmen and the wonderful cleaners for their warm hospitality and generous service during out stay!

I stayed at their newly remodeled studio apartment, it was so nice I kept extending. The property is huge, filled with history, staff are friendly and accommodating, Chloe Chen helped ensure all my needs are met, will definitely stay here next time I visit china.

We had a lovely stay here as a family! The room was big, clean, and well-maintained — plenty of space for the kids to move around. The bathroom was spotless and even had a bathtub, which was a nice bonus for winding down after a long day out. While the hotel exterior may look a little dated, don’t be put off — it’s undergoing renovations and the interior is much better than expected. Housekeeping was prompt and efficient, and the beds were super comfortable for a good night’s rest. Location-wise, it’s hard to beat: just a 5 to 8-minute walk to the train station, and surrounded by several shopping malls — perfect for food, snacks, and picking up any forgotten essentials. All in all, a practical and comfy choice for family travellers. Would definitely stay again!

We stay here for the second time. excellent location. the hotel is large, but very cozy. the pool is a little cool, but good for swimming. a cap for the pool is required. the beds are comfortable, the linens are very good. the rooms are very clean, do not smell of smoke, as in many hotels in China. We want to say a special thanx to Shirly who organized a special gift for my baby on Birthday. Thanks to her we were given a delightful cake, candles, a spatula to cut the cake, plates and forks. And we were given not just a small cake, it was a normal big cake with mango. the cake was very delightful. the hotel is super!!! the staff is very helpful!!! we will definitely come to you again!!!!
