Without spending a penny, I went to shoot the classic treasure spots|Dayan Pagoda
The landmark building of Xi'an, Dayan Pagoda is definitely one of them
It's basically a must-visit spot when you come to Xi'an~
·
🚗Transportation: Take a taxi directly to the south side of the Dayan Pagoda, the pictures are all taken here, or directly locate to Dayue City
🥈Address: Inside the Great Mercy Temple
·
【Best Check-in Point】
1⃣The red wall outside the Xicha at the 3rd door of Dayue City
From this position, you can take pictures of the tower inside, but there are many people, you can take pictures from a low angle to avoid the crowd
2⃣The viewing platform on the top floor of Dayue City
When I went up, it was getting dark, but the lights around the Dayan Pagoda were very photogenic, and not far away is the Datang Everbright City
3⃣Xuanzang of the Dayan Pagoda South Square
Don't go to take pictures at night, choose daytime or dusk to be more photogenic
·

Does anyone still not know the best spot to capture the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an?
The famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an is located inside the Da Ci'en Temple in the southern part of the city, also known as the Da Ci'en Pagoda.
Da Ci'en Temple, the most magnificent royal temple in the city of Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty, was built in the 22nd year of Emperor Taizong's reign (648 AD) by Prince Li Zhi to commemorate his mother, Empress Wen De. After the temple was completed, Xuanzang, who had returned from his pilgrimage to the west, was invited to serve as the "first abbot".
Master Xuanzang spent 11 years translating Buddhist scriptures and promoting Buddhism at the Great Ci'en Temple. Together with his disciple Kuiji, he founded a major Buddhist sect called the Faxiang (Dharma Characteristics) School, making the Great Ci'en Temple the ancestral home of the Yogacara (Consciousness-Only) School, also known as the Faxiang School. During his tenure as the abbot, Master Xuanzang personally supervised the construction of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda to house the sutras and relics brought back from India. He also obtained permission from Emperor Gaozong of Tang (Li Zhi) to enshrine them in the temple.
The present-day Daci'en Temple was built on the basis of the original "Xita Temple" in the Ming Dynasty, and the existing halls in the temple are mostly buildings from the Qing Dynasty. After entering the mountain gate of the temple (at the north end of the South Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda), tourists can see the bell and drum towers confronting each other on the left and right, and the main buildings on the central axis of the temple are the Great Buddha Hall, the Dharma Hall, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the Xuanzang Sanzang Hall in turn. Among them, the Buddha's relics and the top bone relics of Xuanzang, which are enshrined respectively in the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Xuanzang Sanzang Hall, are the "treasures of the town" of Daci'en Temple.
To the east of the central axis of the temple is the Pagoda Garden, where the pine and cypress trees are lush. To the south of the Pagoda Garden is the Tower Forest of the Daci'en Temple, which houses nine stupas containing the relics of nine eminent monks of the temple since the Qing Dynasty.
At the south and north of the Great Ci'en Temple, there are squares. The north square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda has the largest music fountain in Asia. Except for equipment maintenance on Tuesdays, there are fountain performances every day. On the pedestrian streets on both sides of the east and west walls of the temple, there are a series of sculptures reflecting the scenes of Tang Dynasty people's daily life, vividly describing the common life of the Tang Dynasty people.
🎫Ticket: Enter the Great Ci'en Temple for 40 RMB (from March 1st to the end of November, an additional 25 RMB is required to climb the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and an additional 20 RMB is required in the off-season to climb the Big Wild Goose Pagoda).
🚌Arrival method:
🚇Subway: Take Line 3 or Line 4 of Xi'an Metro, get off at Dayanta Station, and walk to the Daci'en Temple Scenic Area.
🚍Take bus routes 21, 22, 23, 24, 41, 44, 189, 242, 271, 408, 500, 601, 606, 609, Qujiang Tourist Loop Bus, Tourist Bus 6, Tourist Bus 8/610, etc. Get off at Dayanta South Square Station and walk to the Daci'en Temple Scenic Area.
📸Best photo spot: Take the escalator next to Qujiang Joy City to the 4th floor, the glass wall of the observation deck is too high, and the fake flowers don't look good. Stand on the stairs in the last picture instead of the observation deck next to the edge. Lower the camera to capture the foreground of the flowers.
The origin of the name of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Where there is a pagoda, there may not be a temple; where there is a temple, there may not be a pagoda!
Pagoda is a Buddhist tower that houses Buddha's relics and the remains of eminent monks who have passed away.
The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the west courtyard of the Great Ci'en Temple. It is a building in the style of the Western Regions, and was built by Tang Xuanzang to store Buddhist scriptures. The pagoda has a total of seven floors and is 64.5 meters high.
The origin of the name of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda has three different explanations:
The origin of the name "Wild Goose Pagoda". "Wild Goose Pagoda" is a Buddhist term. Ancient Indian monks built a pagoda with the bottom layer in the shape of a wild goose, hence the name "Wild Goose Pagoda". Xuanzang studied in India for many years and was deeply influenced by Indian Buddhism. Therefore, he named the scripture repository he built "Wild Goose Pagoda".
Gratitude speaks. The wild geese once led Xuanzang out of the desert and saved him from danger. In gratitude for the kindness of the wild geese, Xuanzang named the tower he built "Wild Goose Pagoda" upon his return from his pilgrimage.
Commemorative speech. Legend has it that Buddha Shakyamuni once transformed into a pigeon to come to the human world to save sentient beings. During the Tang Dynasty, people used the term "yan" to refer to birds, so Xuanzang named the scripture pagoda "Yan Pagoda" in commemoration of the great virtue of Buddha.
Eleven courses of BLISS at Charcoal Player
Chef Li Junjie’s restaurant, Charcoal Player, is a hidden gem in Xi’an. Your meal is no nonsense…you sit at a long bar that overlooks the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, and you are offered a set menu of 11 courses. Junjie is from Sichuan but trained in Australia. As a result, his food embodies the collision of these cultures. The pigeon was my absolute favorite…so tender and not even a hint of gaminess. Hope to visit his Shanghai restaurant soon. #foodie #xian #china

An Unexpected Bird’s Eye View Over Xi’an
This well-preserved and ancient building was a last minute stop during my trip in Xi'an, I didn't really expect much from it so left it as a "if I have time" item on my to visit list while touring the city. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the experience there. Located just 4km from downtown Xi'an, you can find the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in the Da Ci'en Temple complex.
The surrounding garden area is pretty in itself to visit, especially if you're graced with good weather. But while here I would definitely make the effort to go up to the top of the pagoda if you can! Inside the building there are stairs that twist up, and lead you to a point where you can overlook that part of the city with quite a surprising panoramic view.

Michaela (@uncoveringcities) Giant Wild Goose Pagoda / Music fountain
I arrived at the square at 7pm just in time to see the fountains performance. There was a large crowd of people so I was unable to see what it looked like. I then decided to stay until the next performance at 9pm. Got some refreshments and found the best position to witness and capture both the fountain performance and the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. If there is not much you want to do then I suggest you come to the fountain and time it perfectly as at 7pm it is still light so you don’t get the full effect of the fountain and the lights. Be warned, that if you are standing by the fence looking at the Pagoda you will get wet from the spray of the fountain.

西安,ancient name is 长安. This pagoda acts like a symbol of the city. Good place for walking, dancing with local minorities and making pictures. Easy to access by the subway. Do not requires too much time, so it could be added in travel list like additional spot for visiting. Well, at the evening their have the music fountain show. The usual walking street with local talent performances is located very close to pagoda area.

Lovely and beautiful place of calmness and serenity, a place where the legendary and illustrious xuan zhang brought his Buddhist sutras from India to Tang China for safekeeping and further studies. #wintergetaway

this location is as peaceful as heaven, at least the time I was there. actually I was heading to another place to the museum of Xi'an but I took the wrong bus and I was happy with this mistake. nothing makes your journey more interesting rather than having strange accidents. The entrance to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda seems too pricey to me. especially compared to other super-interesting destinations in Xi'An. this place amazed me with cultural heritage, bit I would recommend you to visit it as a side attraction, because this place is, without any doubts, stays in the shadow from Terracotta Warriors.

📍Xi’an
Came here in the evening, cold night in Xi’an. I still thought even though it was so cold, it was still worth a visit. Wild Goose Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda located in Southern Xi’an, China. It was built during Tang dynasty. The lighting for me was simple. The harmony of the yellow light and the painting of the pagoda (brown bricks) were so elegant. I like it.

Xi'an | Five Essential Camera Angles 📷 at the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda that You Must Capture
In pursuit of the perfect shots at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, I embarked on a journey to Xi'an. Despite the holiday crowds, these lesser-known photo spots were relatively deserted. Evading the masses, it was a delight to capture these scenes 📷, effortlessly producing stunning images. The red walls, tree shadows, and the enchanting greenery within the park 🍃. Bookmark this guide to the hidden gems of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and start snapping away 📷...
Here's the Big Wild Goose Pagoda city walk itinerary:
👉🏻 Joy City's 3rd entrance, Xicha (Images 1, 2, 3, 4)
Capture the perfect composition of the red walls, green trees, and the pagoda. The morning shadows on the wall add a touch of beauty...
👉🏻 Joy City's 4th floor viewing platform (Images 5, 6)
Take the elevator to the viewing platform, sit on the steps, and snap a picture with the pagoda. Use the diagonal lines of the eaves for a stunning composition 📷...
👉🏻 Da Ci'en Temple (Cooling off under the pagoda, Images 7, 8, 9)
With a "since I'm here" attitude, I ventured inside for a few shots. The close-up view is equally beautiful. Cooling off under the tree shadows, the breeze is delightful...

The Buddha and the pagoda are visible after passing the artificial hill. Stand under the tree shadows for the perfect angle...

Head straight to the upper floors to avoid the crowds. Say no to being squeezed in the crowd! In Xi'an's summer, remember to protect yourself from the sun ☀️. Bring along a sun umbrella, cooling patches, a neck fan... Be prepared! If you have Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) or props, bring them along for more stunning shots...

Xi'an is Worth Visiting | Big Wild Goose Pagoda + Datang Everbright City Guide
I've been to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda twice, the first time was just to check in and watch the uninteresting musical fountain.
This time I brought my elders to 'check in' for the first time, and we watched the uninteresting fountain again.
Actually, I wanted to go inside the temple, but the timing wasn't right.
You can go to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the afternoon, then spend over an hour getting dressed up and styled, and when the lights come on at night, you can head to Datang Everbright City.
The musical fountain at seven o'clock is in the North Square, after watching the fountain head to the South Square, and on the way from north to south, you'll see the glowing poetry.
There's a spot in the South Square where you can take photos of the glowing Xuanzang statue and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda together, or you can skip the fountain and go directly to the South Square to find a spot, because there will be a lot of people taking photos after the lights are on.
There are signs all the way, just follow them, cross the road from the South Square, and you'll arrive at Datang Everbright City - a well-made themed pedestrian street, with a main stage on the main road and food and fun on both sides.
The distance between stages and the scheduling of showtimes are very reasonable. At a normal walking pace, you can finish watching one show and move on, and by the time you get there, you can wait for the next show to start. It's unlikely to see all the shows, but you can catch a part of them. The show schedule is available on the official WeChat account, but I think it's better to go with the flow. There are too many people, and if you're not keen on a particular show, such as the 'Prosperous Tang Mystery Box' (which is actually close to the entrance, just a few steps away), you don't have to stick to the schedule to find a spot, just watch as you go. Each show lasts about five to ten minutes.
Since I brought three elders over 65 years old, they were quite tired by 8:30 pm, and it would take until 10:30 pm to see all the shows. Also, on the first day we arrived, a taxi driver reminded us to leave Datang Everbright City early, otherwise it would be very difficult to get a taxi, so we left at 8:30 pm. I watched about five shows, 'The Reign of Zhenguan' was not bad, and 'The Battle of the Flower Floats' was also good. As for my mom, my aunt, and my great aunt, it seems they didn't watch any, just rested by the roadside . There were indeed too many people.
Datang Everbright City is still worth visiting, next time I'll dress up, the immersive experience is good~

This is considered the best spot, where you can capture both the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the red walls. Don't miss it at all costs!!
2️⃣Tang Da Ci'en Temple Ruins Park
Inside the park, there is a Buddha statue. This spot is very classic and the photos taken are stunning. It's best to have a telephoto lens to blur out the people.
3️⃣Outside Da Ci'en Temple
Take my advice! If you want to capture the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, you really can't be too close to the tower. Outside the Da Ci'en Temple, there are many statues 🗿 and plenty of photogenic spots!
4️⃣Dayuecheng 4th Floor Viewing Platform
The only downside here is that you will capture other buildings nearby, but you can feel the magnificence of having the tower right beside you.
5️⃣Big Wild Goose Pagoda South Square
That is, right across from the main entrance. Here you can take photos of Xuanzang and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the same frame.
It's quite crowded recently, so you might want to go early.
Thanks for reading, see you next time👋🏻
After watching the Spring Festival Gala, my desire to travel to Xi'an has peaked
·
This year's Spring Festival Gala's Xi'an branch venue was truly amazing.
A spirited performance of 'Poems of Mountains and Rivers in Chang'an'
Recreated the poetic prosperity of the Tang Dynasty's golden age.
When Li Bai from 'Thirty Thousand Miles in Chang'an' and Zhang Ruoyun's Fan Xian appeared together on screen,
I was moved to tears, their spirited and passionate demeanor
Reminded me of my previous trip to Xi'an, where I also felt the charm of Chang'an.
At this moment, I really want to go there again.

The view at this Xi'an landmark is just too photogenic | Xi'an family trip
During the New Year period, I took my child to Xi'an. Despite the crowds, I must say that Xi'an's tourism is really well done, and the experience was very good👍
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, as one of the must-visit spots in Xi'an, is surrounded by throngs of people all taking photos together. Following the guide I saw before, I found this particularly photogenic spot for taking pictures, which I highly recommend!
This spot is located inside the Joy City mall next to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Go in and take the number four elevator🛗 directly to the 4th-floor terrace of Joy City, and you'll come out at the location in our photos.
In addition to taking photos with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, there's also an art installation for the Year of the Dragon that's very photogenic, so if you want to avoid the crowds and still get a good shot with the Pagoda, this is the place to be, even better than taking pictures below📷!
Stay tuned for the next update on the Xi'an family trip itinerary

DAY02: Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang - Huaqing Pool Performance
DAY03: Famen Temple - Ancient City Wall - Muslim Street/Spray Gold Bridge
🔥 Key points here / Pitfall Guide
📍 Shaanxi History Museum
China's first large-scale modern national museum, with a collection of over 370,000 items, ranging from Shang and Zhou bronzes, terracotta figures from various dynasties, Han and Tang gold and silverware to Tang tomb murals, known as the treasure house of Chinese civilization.
▪️ Book in advance, Tang Dynasty Mural Exhibition 300 yuan / Tang Dynasty Treasures 30 yuan
▪️ Human guide basic hall 100, treasure hall 50 yuan
▪️ Audio guide rental 30, deposit 100
📍 Da Ci'en Temple/Grand Tang Paradise/Grand Tang Mall
Da Ci'en Temple is most famous for the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which was built under the supervision of Xuanzang to preserve the scriptures and Buddha statues he brought back. Grand Tang Paradise is mainly a large-scale royal theme park showcasing the culture of the prosperous Tang Dynasty. There are also many performances in the park at different times.
🌈 If time is short, it is recommended to go directly to the Grand Tang Mall to experience the bustling Tang Dynasty night market! After all, the night view here is exciting!
📍 Muslim Street/Spray Gold Bridge
Muslim Street is basically one of the most concentrated tourist food spots, very crowded, and the dining prices on Muslim Street are not cheap, it can be treated as a sight to stroll through.
➡️ As for Spray Gold Bridge, there are fewer people compared to Muslim Street, but it's not exactly off the beaten path anymore. I personally recommend the old alleys next to Spray Gold Bridge, which are very nice to walk through and have an authentic local atmosphere.
📍 Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang
Approved by the United Nations in 1987 to be listed in the 'World Heritage List', it is known as the eighth wonder of the world. This attraction needs no introduction, a pride of the Chinese people. It's very crowded, be careful not to get pushed over.
📍 Huaqing Pool
Huaqing Pool, also known as Li Palace, where Yang Guifei bathed, is a very small pool. 🌈 The evening performance of 'The Song of Everlasting Sorrow' is recommended, with a total of ten acts, lasting 70 minutes. The performance is beautiful, and the prosperity of the Grand Tang Dynasty is worth seeing.
📍 Famen Temple
Founded during the Eastern Han Dynasty, it has a history of over 1900 years. Located in Baoji City, also known as the True Body Pagoda, it became a holy place for Buddhism because it houses the finger bone relics of Sakyamuni Buddha.
Famen Temple visit order: Old Temple > Museum > New Temple
➡️ Inside the Ten-Combined Relic Pagoda, which has an investment of over 5 billion, there is a performance about the past of Famen, which is quite beautiful. Friends who have the money and leisure can go and see it.
📍 Ancient City Wall
On the last day, you can climb the Ming Dynasty Ancient City Wall, which is the largest and most intact ancient city wall existing in China. There are four city gates in total, and the wall is especially magnificent at sunset. Highly recommended!
Visiting Xi'an during off-peak times is the most comfortable!!!
