#Tam Coc Ninh Binh Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Tam Coc 0 km cafe — a very stylish local spot
A very cozy local cafe with a nice fusion of Vietnamese and international dishes in the menu. I chose local fried fish, and I didn't regret it.
The interior design is very well thought, there are so many interesting small details.
The plates and cups are also very interesting, some kind of rustic style.
There is also a good choice of drinks in the menu, I specifically enjoyed Margarita
Nhà hàng Tam Cốc 0km - it's name on the map.

Tranquil boat trip in Ninh Binh (Tam Coc)
Ninh Binh is known as Ha Long Bay on Earth.
One of the highlights of this area is the boat trip in Tam Coc area near Ninh Binh.
The exact place where you can start your trip from is:
Ban Quản Lý Quần Thể Danh Thắng Tràng An
They give you to choose from some options, but all trips include caves and temples. The most striking thing is the water color. Due to the specific algae that live there, it has amazing emerald color.

TAM COC BICH DONG - Ninh Binh, Vietnam
Getting There - From Hanoi you can take a bus to Ninh Binh Province. As part of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Tam Coc Bich Dong Ninh Binh is located in Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, 100km south of Hanoi. Possessing a spacious area of 350.3 hectares, the scenic spot is a combination of limestone cave systems and peaceful village scenery. In addition, this tourist complex also owns a Bich Dong pagoda imbued with traditional architecture and historical relics related to Vu Lam palace of the Tran dynasty in the past.
Attractions - Famous for the name 'Nam Thien De Nhi Dong', Tam Coc Bich Dong possesses a peaceful village scene and an impressive limestone cave system. As part of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Tam Coc Bich Dong is the perfect destination for those who want to fully explore the beauty of the river.
More specifically, if you have the opportunity to come to Tam Coc Bich Dong in the last days of May and early June, you will surely be overwhelmed by the brilliant scenery of the rice fields in full bloom throughout the journey. At this time, the rice fields on both sides of the river are a harmonious combination between the green of young seedling and the bright yellow of ripe rice. This is a perfect picture of a river scene that makes everyone nervous and excited.

Tam Coc boat ride :)
Located about 90km from Hanoi, Ninh Bihn region is definitely must see place when visiting Vietnam. Beside Halong Bay this is the biggest tourist attraction. One of the places I really enjoyed is boat cruise on Ngo Dong river, where boats are driven by feet, which makes it super interesting cruise among beautiful scenery of limestone mountains and three stalactite caves. There will be a close look on Mua Cave from different point of view. At the turning point there will be small floating market where you can buy food, fruit, snacks, and drinks for yourself and also your boat driver as a gesture of appreciation. Whole tour is about 2 hours and costs around 10usd. Definitely a place to spend part of your day visiting this beautiful region. #tamcoc #vietnam #muacave #rivercruise
Tam Coc Tropical Homestay
If you are visiting Tam Coc, and you wish to stay for couple of nights, than this Tropical Homestay might be perfect place for you. Bungalows are big and cozy, owner is super nice and polite and helpful. It s beautiful and peaceful. Swimming pool in the yard is great place to sit and chill if you don t want to swim. This homestay is in city center. 2 min walk from Tam Coc boat ride and all restaurants around. Definitely every recommendation for this place as it s great value for the money :) #tamcoc #homestay #vietnam #vietnamtravel
A Legindary Viewpoint in Tam Coc
Hang Mua Viewpoint is the name of this place. It's located in Tam Coc, near Ninh Binh, about 4 hours drive from Hanoi.
There is a huge lotus pond near this place, so try to plan the visit on Lotus season.
The viewpoint is on a high mountain, where you can climb by stairs.
The trip is tiring, make sure you are in a good physical shape before you go. But even though climbing there is very tiring the views are absolutely breathtaking.
There is a small fee for the entrance and a place to park your bike.

If you want to learn more about a place you're exploring, guided tours can be the most informative. Still, try to raise questions regarding what you see. It enriches a traveler further if you don't just visit an area but also pick up some knowledge about its history. Climbing up the Lying Dragon Mountain in Vietnam's Ninh Binh province, I tried to keep up with the lady who was sharing stories about the mountain. Learning about what she shared made the hike more special knowing the tales that the site holds. Have you been to this place? What secret do you know that took place here? Let's share fun facts and celebrate this trip!
After the rain, comes the hues
Water Temple at Trang An in Ninh Binh;
This is definitely one of my top must visit sites for anyone who is looking for serenity on their path to enlightenment. The energy here reminds me of the vortex in Sedona. You leave here feeling full and rejuvenated.
We took a tour from Hanoi for $33/each. The tour started at 830am and lasted until 8pm. It included a buffet meal, pickup and dropoff from hotel within Old town, a few water bottles, all entrance fees and a local guide. Bring some extra tips for the guides. It was pouring when we went on the tour and the boat captain pushed all 4 of us along the river without an umbrella. She still had a smile on her face and offered to take photos for us.

beautiful river cruise in tam coc
Taking a boat tour in Tam Coc will lead you to the places where most of the photos from Ninh Binh area are taken. Have you seen that river surrounded by rice fields and mountains? Here you will have the chance to see it in real life. I absolutely loved this place and I recommend this boat tour as a must see if you are in the Ninh Binh Province.
You can also easily link this trip to other nearby attractions such as the famous Hang Mua Peak, the Thai Vi Temple which are just 10 minutes away from the start of the Tam Coc boat tour or the Bich Dong Pagoda. Ninh Binh is well know for its spectacular views with mountains popping out of the rice fields. This boat tour will allow you to experience all that while taking a relaxing boat ride. At about the middle of the boat ride you will have the chance to admire the Hang Mua Peak from a different perspective. Also, if you are lucky enough you will see pigs swimming in the river. #passionpassport #staycation #mountainview

Misty Mountains- Tam Coc, Vietnam
Also known as Ha Long bay on land, Tam Coc is a small, misty town in Vietnam
How to get there- Vietnam is well supplied with buses and trains which also operate over night
What to do:
- Go for a river boat ride where the people row with their feet!
- Explore the local countryside on bike or foot. Bikes and motorbikes are rented easily from many hostels
- Climb the viewpoint on one of the nearby hills- best view at sunrise or sunset. As you can see from the photos.. we didn’t get much of a view
In some places, the rain turned into a disaster scene, and in this place of Vietnam, after a rain, even the temples became the same as the wonderland.
There is a quiet city about two hours from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Its name is Ning Ping, where you can not only see the old buildings of the past, but also the landscapes like a fairyland. After riding the boat, you can see the Bidong Temple in about ten minutes by bicycle. After the rain, the whole temple is on the water and it is very Zen.
Built in the 10th century and the Li Dynasty, Bidong and the temples on the mountain were built along the caves. They are divided into upper, middle and lower floors. The whole temple is made of wood piles, antique, very special and elegant. The temple overlooks the fields and the mountains.
Bich Dong Pagoda is located on the outskirts of Ninh Binh, about 11 km from the city.
Tam Coc near Hanoi - visit before it’s really discovered!
A great side trip from Hanoi sits the small town of Tam Coc near Ninh Binh. Worth 1-2 nights it’s a world away from the busy Hanoi honking and crazy drivers with all the charm and beauty of the Vietnam countryside! Take the 2-3 hour boat trip around incredible limestone gorges in Tran A nearby and enjoy great local and western food in the small town.
Worth climb for Tam Coc and Ninh Binh view..
Get ourself an early visit to Mua Cave viewpoint for the best view of Tam Coc and Ninh Binh. Only few people exploring the area at 6.00am, weather was cooler in the morning and you can get the best photo shot with less distraction. The 500 steps (so been told) to the top of the viewpoint was quite challenging with people with weak knee but worth it for all the amazing view.
Ninh Binh's Idyll ❤️
After Halong Bay, we headed to Ninh Binh for almost 4 hours by ordinary bus. We have no choice but to sit on the low chairs situated on the aisle of the bus full of locals. Twas like the last bus to Ninh Binh so other passengers were even standing and jostled against each other. It was a fun ride, tho. We didn't plan for our next destination, obviously, so we didn't book ahead.
Anyways, we made our way to Ninh Binh. The refreshing scenery of this place erased the hassle we encountered to get here. For people like me who love green shades, this is paradise for us.
On our first day, we went to Tam Coc - Bich Dong, where our guide rowed us, using his feet, along the river from the bracing village of Ván Lám, through the luxuriant rice fields and limestone karsts, through the three natural caves.
Exploring their restaurants here is unstoppable because their food is my palate's favorite, so on the second day we had a long walk to see more beauties this city has to offer and of course to use the extra 'energy' we gain. You shouldn't leave this place without trying their massage. #vietnam #tamcoc #bichdongpagoda #ninhbinh
Ninh Binh, VN - Sunsets, Boats and Mountains
Getting There
Ninh Binh is located in North Vietnam, around 3 hours from Hanoi. There is no airport, so to get here you’ll need to take a bus or a train from wherever you are currently at in Vietnam. For example, we got a bus from Hanoi to Ninh Binh for £7 each, but buses and trains also go from other places such as Hue.
Attractions
Ninh Binh is a beautiful place to visit, the landscape is covered with mountains and trees.
1) Go on a rowing boat tour in Tam Coc and explore caves and pagodas.
2) Visit Bich Dong pagoda, which is nestled into the mountain side.
3) Climb 500 steps to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain, located at Mua Cave.
4) Cycle through the rice fields and villages for unforgettable views.
Hotels
There’s not too many options in Ninh Binh, but they are good.
1) Lys Homestay.
Run by an amazing family, the rooms are clean and full of natural light. The location is great and is near all the restaurants and shops. If you need to rent a bicycle or scooter, you can do that here!
2) Banana Tree Hostel
A bit more social and upbeat, this is also a great place to stay. It’s located in the same area as Lys Homestay, so you get the same great experience!
Food & Restaurants
For us, this is where Ninh Binh lacked a bit of quality. However, there is still some decent options to choose from.
1) T-Pub Restaurant
For some amazing freshly made pizza!
2) Lantern Restaurant
For some great Vietnamese food!
3) Pig Family Cafe & Restaurant
For some cheap food and cheap beer!

Ninh Binh must go!
Ninh Binh is 2 hours away from Hanoi. King Kong filmed at there. Superb boat trip around nature river sceneries. Local people are friendly. Alot eateries cater for tourists. Important not expensive!
Bich Dong Pagoda, Ninh Binh, Vietnam🇻🇳
Ninh Binh
I didn’t anticipate falling in love with Ninh Binh as much as I did. We stayed in one of Vietnam’s most famous hostels, ‘The Banana Tree’, nestled into the caves & mountains that surround Tam Coc lake. Looking towards the mountains, you can almost imagine a pterodactyl flying between the rocks & massive sea monsters emerging from the lakes.
We visited Bich Dong Pagoda by foot, an incredible walk where we encountered a gang of goats, multiple cockerels & a few stray dogs. The pagoda was first built in 1428 and is a beautiful spot for ancient, natural beauty.
For the 4 days that we’ve been here, the weather has been dismal; foggy, cloudy, rainy & humid. But, at times, it almost made the views better.
I definitely recommend at least 2 days here, just to totally immerse yourself in the beautiful nature than Ninh Binh has to offer.

Climbing Drangon Mountain
Vietnam is one of my favorite countries. I took a group tour with #Feelfreetravels and we visited some stunning places. One of them was Ninh Binh and Dragon Mountain. The climb was fairly steep but definitely worth it. While it was very foggy and rainy that day, we were still able to get some fantastic shots in.
The best way to get to Dragon Mountain is to rent some bikes and cycle through the rice fields. I really recommend coming here, it was one of my highlights of this trip.

A One of a Kind River Cruise
I never thought it would be that amazing to just marvel at the wonders of nature while sitting on a boat. I have looked up photos of Ninh Binh province in Vietnam and they make such beautiful post cards. That set my expectation of this tour to a high regard. Come the day of the trip, the weather was perfect and the river looked really peaceful. Tens of other boats were conducting the tour at the same time and if you're imaginative enough, it could feel like a race. However, you would want to just relax and take in the breathtaking scenery passing by rock formations and cliffs, aquatic plants, and even a cave. #tamcoc #rivercruise #ninhbinh
#tripaway
one of the most beautiful places I have been to. I had a long boat ride to see this scenic beauty. I would love to visit back Vietnam soon when this pandemic ends.
