Welcome to the Muze Istanbul, which has a complete guide to museums and archeological treasures in Istanbul. Istanbul is full of history and culture so it is no wonder some of the best museums in the world are located in Turkey. We dedicated to provide complete and up-to-date information about Istanbul's historical places and museums.
Topkapı Palace and Harem (Topkapı Sarayı) are likely to have more colourful stories than most of the world's museums put together. Libidinous sultans, ambitious courtiers, beautiful concubines and scheming eunuchs lived and worked here between the 15th and 19th centuries when it was the court of the Ottoman empire. A visit to the palace's opulent pavilions, jewel-filled Treasury and sprawling Harem gives a fascinating glimpse into their lives
The Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is an architectural marvel that celebrates the rich culture and history of the Ottoman Empire. Did you know that the palace kitchen comprises a collection of almost 12,000 porcelain pieces, including a celadon bowl from China that would, apparently, change color if the food within contained poison? If you’re in Istanbul, a visit to Topkapi Palace is a must-do if you want to indulge in the city’s rich history and culture.
The Topkapi Palace is one of the world’s largest surviving palaces and was built between 1460 and 1478 under the orders of Sultan Mehmed II a few years after he conquered Constantinople. The palace served as the home of the Ottoman Sultans for almost four centuries. It was also the state’s administrative and educational headquarters.
After Mehmed’s death, about 30 sultans ruled from the palace renovating and expanding it to its current appearance - a unique mix of Islamic, European, and Ottoman architecture styles. Comprising four courtyards and over 400 rooms, the palace was home to an estimated 4,000 people, including 300 concubines in the Harem.
I reccomend visit the museum and harem topkapi.

Topkapi Palace, Istanbul
It was a main residence for sultans of Ottoman Empire. It’s an interesting museum now with a long history.
✅Imperial Palace consists of different exhibition halls, pavilions, Treasury and of course Harem (ticket to Harem you need to buy separately. It’s a different side of the palace, so if you have an opportunity to look inside sultans’ private life - do it 😉)- and it’s only the main residential part. Also you will see kitchens, different pavilions for servants, gardens and fountains.
📍How to get there- it’s located in Sultanahmet. The easiest way is to use tram 1. You will go directly to Sultanahmet area.

The Topkapı Palace, or the Seraglio, is a large museum in the east of the Fatih district of Istanbul in Turkey. From the 1460s to the completion of Dolmabahçe Palace in 1856, it served as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire, and was the main residence of its sultans until the 17th century.
Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is one of the most important landmarks and tourist attractions of Istanbul. The whole visit, including walking around and taking pictures should last between 2 to 3 hours. This Palace is one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings around the world. The artwork displayed is exquisite and every room has its own style. Visiting this place let you imagine the magnificent part of the history of this nation.
This is an incredible experience for those who love history and culture. This place closes quite early. It is open to the public from 10:00 am until 4:00 PM.

Also known as the Forbidden City, from 1465 to 1853, it was the official residence and main residence of the Ottoman Sultan in the city. It was also the place where national ceremonies and royal entertainment were held. The palace was conquered by the Sultan Mehmet II of the Byzantine Empire in Constantinople. It was ordered to start construction in 1459, when it covered an area of 700,000 square meters, and now only 80,000. For more than 400 years after
, Topkapi Palace was the political and cultural center of the Ottoman Empire, and 25 of the 36 empires of the empire ruled the empire here. It was not until 1856 that Sultan Abdul Majid I established the new royal palace, Dolmabahce Palace, in the European part of the West Bank of the Bosphorus. The translation of the
Topkapi Palace is the "gate of the cannon". It was built in the ruins of the Byzantine Capo Castle. The cannon was placed in the former bunker. The palace's four courtyards and other small buildings once occupied about 4,000 people. After the demise of the Ottoman Empire, on April 3, 1924, under the government's decree, the palace became a museum of the Age of Empires. The green area of the palace is very large, and the pieces of the French phoenix are sprinkled with green flowers and shades. There are also many houses, but only the most important parts are open to the public. Topkapi Palace is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture, with a large collection of armor, Ottoman miniatures, Islamic calligraphy manuscripts, murals and Ottoman beadings.
The museum is also divided into a number of separate exhibition halls, such as the Porcelain Pavilion, the Turkish National Treasure Hall, the Southern Sudanese Costume Hall, the Ancient Embroidery Pavilion, the Ancient Weapons Museum, the Ancient Watch Museum, etc.
Topkapi Palace is Turkey's old royal palace and one of the world's cultural heritage. Topkapi means "the cannon's door", which originated from the cannons that were once placed in the old bunker. Now a museum, it is known as the model of the Ottoman period palace.

#istanbultrip Pretty expensive, but also super expansive. There is a ton of things to see here, the audioguide helps to get deeper insights, but I had to change the device once and walk back to the entrance to do this.
Remarkable objects and relics and you could easily spend numerous hours in this palace area. I would suggest to have minimum of 3 hours for an visit. Bring drinks and snacks, as there are not many services inside the premises.
Step into the world of the assassin, where all is an illusion and everything is permitted
- We work in the dark, to serve the light.
✨Years later, in a Tuscan villa in the countryside, an elderly Ezio Auditore would remember the alleys he crossed in Constantinople, the dear friends he made, the lovers he met, and the secrets he uncovered.
💫For centuries, this place has been a home to travelers from all over, a crossroads of Europe and Asia, and the most diverse place in the world. For this reason, the assassins🗡️ also chose it as the location for their headquarters.
⚔️In 1510, at the age of 50, Ezio arrived in the great city of Constantinople, guided by the travelogues of Niccolò Polo, in search of the keys to the Masyaf underground library🔑. During this time, he met Sultan Suleiman during his princely period,
✨encountered Sofia, who would be his life-long companion, lost the assassin brother Yusuf who sacrificed himself to protect Sofia, but ultimately opened the library, saw the final memories of his mentor Altair, and henceforth retired from his assassin life, washing his hands of that world.
▫️Perhaps Constantinople was just a brief moment in Ezio's illustrious life, but like his name, which resembles an eagle, he always loomed over this land, protecting everything he loved, lived for, and fought for.
