#Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
You should visit Guizhou at least once, and experience the day and night of the Qianhu Miao Village!!
It turns out that the off-season is the correct way to visit the Qianhu Miao Village of Xijiang❗️||🏠Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village
🚗About transportation:
Take the high-speed rail to Kaili South Station!
❗️There is a bus ticket office on the left side of the high-speed rail station: 18/person (but there is a timetable, it seems to be one and a half hours)
❗️If the departure time is close to the departure time, then I strongly recommend taking the bus! There is really no need to take a black car, the bus can directly send to the west gate or north gate, both gates will stop
-
🚪About which door to enter:
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village has two gates, west gate and north gate
I sincerely recommend going in and out of the north gate
Because the west gate must go through a commercial street that lasts for seven or eight minutes,
The commercial street is really really very⬇️ Head
If you are dragging a suitcase, it is even more difficult
-
🚌About sightseeing car:
After entering the scenic area, you have to take a sightseeing car to enter the village
I can only say that the money that should be spent still has to be spent
-
🏘️About accommodation:
Accommodation is not recommended! The best view is with a balcony
If there are not too many requirements, it is enough to suggest halfway up the mountain
Living too high is really really hard to climb
-
🍽️About eating:
For friends who come to Guizhou for the first time, I recommend sour soup beef or local stir-fry
-
📝Note tips:
There are really few people going in the off-season
Accommodation and eating are relatively convenient
It is best to find a sunny day to go
The experience on a rainy day should not be too good
The village is quite commercial, but I personally think it is very beautiful and worth it! The stilted buildings are very beautiful and the photos are very good. It is a good choice to go on a sunny day for a weekend. It is not as unbearable as the Internet says
There will be some performances at a fixed time
Try to bring as little luggage as possible. It is really hard to walk with a suitcase on the road in the village. If there is really a lot of luggage, try to choose a homestay that can help with luggage
Remember to wear a pair of comfortable shoes

The Wooden House Village.
The Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is a special ancient village in Guizhou Province of China. It is home to the Miao people, a minority group in China.
Getting there: Get to Kaili city (in Guizhou province) by train. Then get a taxi to the village. A private car is also an option and you just need to search online for a company - there are many English speaking ones that can take you.
The village itself is filled with stunning traditional wooden architecture and stunning scenic views of the ancient village. (see my photos for some examples). It is truly a unique part of China.
I recommend staying for several nights to really enjoy and take in the culture.
Tip: Go for sunset shots to enjoy a panoramic view of Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. There are viewing decks on the opposite hill of Xijiang Miao Village and electric car can take you there. Standing on the viewing deck, you’ll enjoy picturesque and peaceful panoramic view of the whole village.

Guizhou- 西江千户苗寨- 2-day trip.
You can take a train to Kaili and then a taxi to 西江千户苗寨 (180rmb) and stay at a hotel there in the middle of everything for less than 200/night.
The place is not too big but it’s beautiful, you can walk and take buses that go all around, you gotta buy a ticket at the entrance that allows you 4 rides and it costs 20rmb.
Hotel: I stayed at Qianheshun, a very nice and cozy place!
Eat the local snacks and food, there are restaurants all around. There is a coffee shop, you just gotta find it!
Two days are enough to visit all, then you can head to Tongren 同仁 #西江千户苗寨 #贵州省

The best thing happen when you get here!
While wandering in Xinjiang, Miao Villages I was lucky to witnessed and experienced their Ethnic dance performance. It was amazing, after their performance you are allowed to take pictures with them they will welcome you with a warm smile. Aside from that, you can't leave in this place without trying there local dessert that you can buy everywhere in the streets for ¥5. The ginger tea and of course the famous barbecue stick that cost ¥10 for 10 pcs. If your fan of milktea don't worry this place has too 😂😊.

Spectacular Ancient Village!
Xi Jiang Miao village in Guizhou province is a stunning place to walk around and photograph.
As a budding photographer, I just loved walking through the narrow streets and climbing to the top of the village for a birds eye view of the entire village.
I recommend staying in a local hotel inn at the top of the village. You can wake up, like I did, to one of the greatest sunrises ever.

Xijiang Ancient Town - lovely valley views!
🚗 To get into the Ancient Town you have to park and buy tickets at the main West Gate and walk with your stuff to the main bus area (towards the huge silver round building). There are traditional dancers upon entry and heaps of restaurants, souvenir shops as you enter (and exit) you pass.
🎟 The tickets including the bus were 110rmb each and you can exit and enter the park 4 times with the ticket. You then get on a bus for a 10km/10mins drive down a steep winding road. It still drops you off at the top of a hill you have to walk down (about 7mins) to get to the main viewing platform. We chose not to use the various small shuttle buses throughout the town because walking down and up the winding alleyways was fun and let us see the many different views! If you have any mobility issues the buses can take you from place to place but the line ups looked a little long depending on the time of day.
😬 This is the busiest and biggest Miao village in Guizhou and as such it gets pretty loud. There is still a lot of construction that starts early in the morning and traditional dance shows combined with nightly KTV can be quite loud.
nay
⛰ Having said that – we found this glorious walk along a wooden walkway that led us to the next valley where we were in complete silence. It was around a 4-hour hike at a leisurely pace. Many tourists go here to dress up in the local ethnic minority costume and take pictures, so that seems to be the main thing most people do. For dinner, there is plenty of delicious restaurants along the way that sell delicious food but I would highly suggest having a night of street snacks. The local rice rolls are vegetarian and simply deliciously fresh. We also had some killer shaved noodles, some spicy roasted potatoes and some rice deserts. Washed down with a couple of beers and some glorious people watching – it’s a fun night out amongst crowds of people!

Xijiang Miao Village
Xijiang Miao Village is a scenic area located at the foot of the mountain in Leishan county, in Guizhou province. This traditional and beautiful Miao village is one of the largest in China. The village is full of shops to buy souvenirs and food, wooden houses, beautiful nature…Definitely it’s a good place to scape from the hustle city. Although it’s important to know that this tradicional village is quite well prepared for tourism and there is an entrance fee.

Get lost wandering in Xijiang ❤️
Xijiang is a rural town in Leishan county, Guizhou, China. The town is renowned for its Miao villages and their custom and human relationships.
The most popular one, the Xijiang Miao village.
One day is not enough to explore throughly the place. For it is rich in culture and architectural design, these Miao villages will surely capture your interest.
Hike up a bit if you want to get on the Observation deck so you can have a good bird's eyeview of the Xijiang Miao village. Walk on the side of the river to get a better view of the stacked-up houses. Get lost on those small alleyways uphill.
Yes you will get tired from walking, but hey, the place is really beautiful. Really beautiful. ❤️

Efficient travel to Xijiang Miao village 👍
Here's a tip when travelling to Xijiang Miao village.
From Guiyangbei (Guiyang North railway station), take a train ride to Kaili South station. i booked my train ticket in trip.com. For 58rmb one way, you will be in Kaili South station in just 39mins compared to 2hours drive (by car or bus ride). When you get to Kaili South station, DO NOT get a taxi because it will cost you much. Instead, get into those tourist and sight seeing buses on the right side of the exit of the train station in Kaili. Pay 35rmb and that tourist bus got a tour guide. It will take around 1 hour bus ride from Kaili South station to the Xijiang Miao village in Leshan county.
Note: this is what i did. Perhaps it can help you to travel more, spend less. Cheers!

Meeting the Miao ethnic minority ❤️
Miao is the official Chinese term for four distinct groups of people who are only distantly related through language or culture: the Hmu people of Southeast Guizhou, the Qo Xiong people of West Hunan, the A-Hmao people of Yunnan, and the Hmong people of Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, and Yunnan.
It is believed that the Miao were among the first rice farmers in China.
In Xijiang Miao village in Leshan county, Guizhou i met some of them. They are friendly amongst the foreign and local tourists. They will welcome you open arms with a rice wine in welcoming platform. There is also a free song-and-dance performances twice a day when you visit the village.
Miao women in Xijiang wear elegant and glittering silver ornaments. They wear large neck rings, necklaces, earrings, and silver bracelets. With their colorful and vibrant costume wear.
For like 45-60rmb, you can dress up as a Miao man or woman and have your picture taken.

Daytrip @ A Thousand Household
Xijiang is one of the biggest Miao villages in China. Known as the "Thousand Household", probably the most popular and commercialized Miao village. Its location is about 37 kilometers from Leishan county and about 80 kilometers from Kaili. Like an hour drive from Kaili.
There's a lot of local scenic spots on the village. These includes the mountains covering the entire village, river valley that runs all throughout the village, wind bridges, farmer's path, those beautiful intricate wooden houses built in Miao architectural style.
Entrance fee: 110rmb
Admission is pretty expensive, but its worth it.

There are many places to hike, take photos or just relax. Would highly recommend spending 2 days here. #china #ancientvillage #summervacation

The thousand household village, and the largest Miao village in China.
Set in the natural basin of a valley, surrounded by paddy fields, wooden houses on stilts (known as diao jiao lou, 豆角楼) rise up off the grounds covering the hillsides. Comprised of three storeys, the first usually is usually used for storage of tools and livestock; the second acts as the bedroom, living room, kitchen; the third is used to store grain and other products.
From long table banquets and colorful performances to incredible viewing decks and unique local eats, you’ll need to stay at least two days to experience everything Xijiang Miao Village has to offer.

Guizhou, a feast for the eyes and soul
I just came back from Guizhou, and the scenery there is truly breathtaking! Huangguoshu Waterfall, Xiaoqikong, and Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, each place is captivating and makes you want to stay forever.
🌈 First stop: Huangguoshu Waterfall
- In the early morning, we embarked on our journey to Huangguoshu Waterfall. Standing on the observation deck, I was overwhelmed by the magnificent force of the waterfall, with mist all around, as if I were in a fairyland. Don't forget to bring a raincoat, or you'll get wet!
- After lunch, we strolled along the mountain roads, admiring the cascade of waterfalls along the way and marveling at nature's masterpiece.
🌈 Second stop: Libo Xiaoqikong
- In the early morning, we drove to Libo Xiaoqikong. There are seven natural bridge holes of varying sizes, with crystal-clear river water flowing through them, creating a stunning view.
- Walking along the river, we enjoyed the waterfalls and the emerald green water, feeling the tranquility and harmony of nature.
🌈 Third stop: Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village
- On the third day, we arrived at Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. It is the largest Miao village in China, preserving a rich Miao culture and traditional architecture.
- Strolling through the alleys of the Miao village, we experienced the strong ethnic atmosphere. In the evening, we watched Miao song and dance performances and tasted authentic Miao cuisine.
📌 **Practical Tips**:
- The weather in Guizhou is changeable, so please check the weather forecast before going out and bring appropriate clothing.
- When visiting waterfalls, be careful of slipping and waterproofing.
- When visiting the Miao village, respect the local customs and religious beliefs.
Each attraction left a deep impression on me; the beauty of Guizhou is truly incomparable. This trip was really worthwhile and made me fall in love with this place.

The local customs and folk culture are rich, and it's a place where the 'primitive ecological' ethnic culture is relatively intact. Some say it's commercialized, but it's still worth experiencing the culture and life of the Miao people firsthand.
📍Attraction Location:
Address: Xijiang Town, Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province
🕙Attraction Opening Hours: Open 24 hours
◻️
A very spectacular large-scale Miao village, where you can not only see the beautiful scenery and graceful Miao girls, but also hear the sound of silver ornaments dancing to the music of lusheng, and under the night sky when the lights are lit, the view of thousands of household lights is truly beautiful.
The layered grey-tiled wooden buildings are complex yet intricately crafted, giving off a sense of life. In the early morning, the Miao village gradually awakens in the twilight, the sunlight piercing through the clouds, casting a golden hue over the valley's stilted buildings, stone streets, and the Bai River, making the whole village bathed in a cold yet warm light. As the evening lights are turned on, the lights from the shops at the bottom of the mountain begin to spread all the way to the top, with the sound of lusheng faintly in the air, and from afar comes the desolate and deep ancient Miao song
❗️Tips:
Make sure to book your tickets online in advance, otherwise, you will still need a ticket, and renting a set of Miao ethnic clothing for photos is very beautiful.

Welcome to the Guizhou Travel Guide
Guizhou, an underrated treasure of a small town, is "surrounded by mountains with clouds winding around the peaks" "Green hills embrace, terraced fields layer upon layer, and streams flow through the villages" "Away from the world, yet not far from us" Here, traditional Chinese villages with original charm are preserved; a world of unique karst landscapes and breathtaking scenery! It's a small world with few people, where meals and seasons are warm and healing, so come and stay for a few days if you don't feel like working!🍃🥨☕️
1⃣Huangguoshu Waterfall
✅️Recommended route: Tianxing Bridge → Grand Waterfall → Steep Slope Pond (saves time and effort)
✅️The essence of Tianxing Bridge is actually the Yinzhu Chain Waterfall. Get off the bus and walk along the plank road in reverse to return to Gaolaozhuang, passing by Tianxing Cave which is cool in winter and warm in summer. Yinzhu is very stunning and worth a visit👀
✅️Don't take the escalator to Shuilian Cave, follow the signs and walk the trail, it's not strenuous
✅️For Steep Slope Pond, be sure to return the same way, don't go to the opposite side of the river, otherwise, you'll have to walk a lot more
2⃣Libo Small Seven Holes
✅️Recommended from west to east: West Gate → ◎Wolong Pool → ◎Mandarin Duck Lake → back to Cuigu Waterfall → Stone Forest → back to Small Seven Holes Ancient Bridge (downhill is easier)
✅️Rafting at Wolong Pool 💰50/person is self-paddled and not very cost-effective
✅️Boating at Mandarin Duck Lake 💰30/person, also self-paddled, recommend choosing one, but prefer this one
✅️Cuigu Waterfall is suitable for playing in the water barefoot, popular with children
✅️Stone Forest has the longest walk, with beautiful waterfalls along the way
3⃣Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village
✅️Stilted buildings: layered upon each other, with a strong sense of life
✅️Wind and Rain Bridge: Be sure to dress in Miao clothes and take photos on the bridge, very photogenic
✅️Qianhu Night Scene: At night, thousands of lights are lit💡, like stars in the sky⭐
✅️Miao Village Songs and Dances: Experience the local Miao people's songs and dances, very interesting
❌️Do not recommend going to the viewing platform for night scenes, too many people and not a full view, you can find angles at the Lusheng Field, Wind and Rain Bridge, ancient alleys, rooftops, etc.
4⃣Fanjing Mountain
✅️Recommended to take the round-trip cable car, enter the East Gate → take the sightseeing bus → cable car
5⃣Zhenyuan Ancient Town

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village instantly transports you into Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away'
Located in Guizhou, this place is an irreplicable mystery.
It's far from the mundane world, free from the noise of the city🍃
It's like an open-air museum
With over twelve hundred stilted houses of the Miao families,
It's truly spectacular🔥~
.
If I had to describe it in one sentence, it would be: Regret for three days if you go, regret for a lifetime if you don't...!!
/
🏝Transportation:
🚅Take the high-speed train to Guizhou North Station, then from Guiyang North Station take another high-speed train to Kaili South Station, and finally take the direct bus from Kaili South Station to the Miao Village.
.
📷Photo spots:
🔸Wind and Rain Bridges
There are 6 wind and rain bridges in the scenic area, with bridges 4 and 5 recommended. Bridge 4 offers a distant view of the mountains, while bridge 5 allows for side shots of the layered Miao houses, both guaranteeing great photos💯
🔸Observation Deck
You can take a sightseeing car or walk (about 15 minutes) to the observation deck. I went both during the day and at night, and the lights at night are indeed stunning.
🔸Youfang Street
The streets in the morning are very lively, and you can take pictures with a telephoto lens with the Miao houses in the background, which is very photogenic. It's recommended to bring a drone.
🔸Lusheng Field
The shooting spot for 'Spirited Away'.
🔸Yunting Hotel
A classic spot in the Miao Village, it requires 💰, and you might need to queue due to the crowd.

‼️Travel tips:
🔥It's recommended to stay for at least two days, or three if you have the time. Take your time to stroll through the Miao Village, as it has different beauties by day and night.
.
🔥Before nine in the morning and after ten at night, there are hardly any people, so you can take pictures freely.
.
🔥Cuisine: The local food of Southeast Guizhou is very tasty, with a sour and spicy flavor.
For example, sour soup beef, reed pond sour fish, and rice tofu.
.
🔥Don't bring too much luggage, there are many stone steps, and carrying too much can really make you cry.
.
🔥The scenic area has a west gate and an east gate, check in advance which gate is closer to your accommodation.

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Guide in Guiyang!
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Guide in Guiyang!
About the route and bus journey:
Take the high-speed train from Guiyang North Station to "Kaili South Station" (takes 50 minutes, high-speed train costs 58.5 yuan)
After arriving at Kaili South Station, walk straight along the street for about 500 meters to have the most authentic Sour Soup Fish! (Xian flavor Hong Sour Soup Fish, average consumption about 75 yuan per person)
Then go back to the left side of the high-speed train station at South Station, where there is a bus station that has direct buses to Qianhu Miao Village scenic area! The ticket price is 35 yuan, and it takes 40 minutes to reach Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village (North Gate Entrance)
Upon reaching the North Gate Entrance of Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village scenic area, purchase a ticket (90 yuan for a regular ticket, 110 yuan for a ticket including a sightseeing car in the scenic area), and after entering the main gate of the scenic area, take a bus to the location of the No. 7 Wind and Rain Bridge to start walking officially.
Start walking along the riverside, from the No. 7 Wind and Rain Bridge to the No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge, there are many travel photography shops along the way, after walking along the river, you can take a sightseeing car at the No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge to the viewing platform (5 yuan), the viewing platform is suitable for night views, overlooking the entire Qianhu Miao Village, the feeling of thousands of lights. Watching the night view is really good!
About travel photography: After comparing several prices and sample photos, I finally chose a travel photography shop (2 people 399 yuan plus rooftop shooting site fee 40, a total of 439 yuan), 8 retouched photos, 50 raw photos all given, shooting night scenes in -2 degrees weather, rain mixed with snow froze my soul
About accommodation: Originally planned to return to Guiyang that night, but due to the delay in shooting night scenes, I had to stay in the Miao Village. I chose a homestay recommended by the photography shop, close to the viewing platform, with a good view. The conditions are like the standard of ordinary hotels in the city, the price is high, the accommodation costs 270 yuan a night, which is the discounted price, it is said that during the peak season it costs 1,000 to 2,000 yuan a night), wooden stilted building, poor sound insulation, when someone walks upstairs, it feels like the building is shaking, the air conditioning effect is not very good, it took half an hour for the temperature to slowly warm up, the water heater temperature is average, can only say it is lukewarm, outside -2 degrees weather, rain mixed with snow, I didn't want to bother anymore and just settled down. This price and viewing location compared to other hotels, is already very good!
The next day I woke up to see the beautiful rime on the distant mountains! Walking down the mountain along the small road, the whole mountain is full of homestays and hotels, there is still ice on the tile roofs, most of the shops by the river below are for travel photography. The food is not very tasty.
Overall, it feels commercialized, those who want to do travel photography can come to experience it, and the night view is still good. The Miao Village is basically rented out to bosses to open homestays and hotels, most of the Miao people seen are working inside. When we went, the most characteristic square was paved into a basketball court, it is said to be for the village super NBA.

Xijiang Thousand Household Miao Village
Xijiang Thousand Household Miao Village is located in the northeast of Leishan County, 37 kilometers away from the county town, and 39 kilometers away from the state capital Kaili. Xijiang has more than 1,250 households and over 5,600 people. It is the largest Miao village in the country and was the main assembly point for the fifth major migration of the Miao people. It is known as the 'Thousand Household Miao Village' and is hailed as the main base of the Miao nationality.
Xijiang Thousand Household Miao Village is situated at the foot of Leigong Mountain in the northeast of Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is 36km from the county town, 35km from the prefectural capital Kaili, and about 260km from the provincial capital Guiyang. The village is a collection of more than ten natural villages built along the mountainside, and it is currently the largest Miao settlement in China and even the world. Xijiang is famous for its silversmith village, where Miao silver ornaments are all handmade, and the craftsmanship is of a very high standard. Xijiang is a place where the 'primitive ecological' culture of the Miao nationality is completely preserved, and it is the preferred place to appreciate and understand the long history and development of the Chinese Miao people. Xijiang's Bullfighting Festival and Miao New Year are famous worldwide. Xijiang Thousand Household Miao Village is an open-air museum that displays an epic of the development of the Miao nationality, becoming a grandstand for viewing and studying the traditional culture of the Miao people.
The Miao song and dance performances by local Miao youths, held once in the morning and once in the afternoon, may feel a bit commercialized now, but the performances by the Miao people themselves still retain local characteristics. The gorgeous costumes and joyful songs and dances, along with beautiful love stories, can help you understand the Miao people better! There are performances of ancient Miao songs, very primitive, sung by the elders in the village using the ancient Miao language, narrating their epic ancient songs (which consist of four parts, covering the origin of all things, the vastness of heaven and earth, and the history of bitter migration) that are being passed down, which is a great merit. If you're lucky, during special events or when important figures appear, you can still see the copper drum dance of Zhang'ao, the tall reed-pipe dance of Fangxiang, and the reverse drum dance of wooden drums, etc.
